First of all, I know how to snipe. My career sniper headshot percentage is 77.4% on my lowest character and 80.5% on my highest. I am 496th in the US in average distance of kills (which is odd, because I used shotguns the first three months I played the game)... so that's not the issue.
I felt really comfortable with just about every sniper in year one. I probably used just about every one of them at some point or another with little-to-no problems. This year, however, all of the snipers feel a bit off.
It seems like all of the guns "drift" a bit, and I have recorded several cases where I pulled the trigger as the reticule passed the target's head only for it to register as a body shot...or worse... not at all.
I was just wondering if anyone else has felt the same? If so, are there any snipers you've ultimately settled on? Oddly enough, I feel like Black Spindle has the most Y1 feel to it. I'd rather not drop an exotic on my sniper spot, though.
Here's a list of all of the snipers I have used so far in year two:
- 1000 Yard Stare (Shortgaze)
- Hereafter
- Black Spindle (Hawkeye / Ambush)
- Stillpiercer
- Tao Hua Yuan
- Antimony XVI
Thanks

I am making this edit, because a lot of drive-by posters with little knowledge on the subject keep referencing aim assist. Guns Update
The 1000 Yard Stare with Shortgaze is really good on most maps, provided you have a range perk added to it (the quest one does); HOWEVER, it is pretty awful on large maps such as Widow's Court. I'd recommend changing scopes on larger maps. It's a beast in this week's Trials.
-
This is why I kept my LongBow, still use the year 2s more often, but I like going back to year 1 sometimes.

Edytowany przez użytkownika Anomic, the Washed: 10/23/2015 3:56:12 PMI had some problems at first, but I've gotten the hang of it. I like stillpiercer the most, but have been using 1000 yard stare with shortgaze so I don't get too caught on the hunter exclusive.
-
Edytowany przez użytkownika StrodaIe: 10/23/2015 3:55:41 PMThey buffed the aim assist so its (IMO) not even fun anymore From what I herd they buffed it I have no hard proof but I get you
-
The only scope that seems to work for me on the 1000 yrd is the ambush scope.
-
2 OdpowiedziAgreed, I miss my LDR so much right now....
-
I'm having the same problem and I'm in the same boat as you with avg kill distance. Can't seem to get comfortable with year 2 snipers while everyone else seems to be a pro with 1000 yard stare
-
It feels like the scopes dont drag as quickly or accurately. Finally got a few decent snipes in the last couple nights.
-
3 OdpowiedziI can confirm
-
Same with all snipers it sucks
-
I love my 1000 yd stare, suits me better than any sniper ever did. Could be a bit of lag or human error on your part. I'm sure if you like sniping you'll get used to the new snipers in no time Cheers
-
2 OdpowiedziHow do you find out your rank in distance kill in your region? :s
-
2 OdpowiedziI dig my extrasolar. Doesn't hit that hard, but handles nice and has good perks. Feels a lot like Prudence used to. Still on the lookout for a high impact sniper that I like.
-
3 OdpowiedziIt may have to do with accuracy being bigger factor since 2.0. If you've watched PD explain accuracy, stability and aim assist, then you know that accuracy is like a Cone, that cone gets smaller when you ADS. The cone stays smaller (more accurate) with the more range you have. So now that snipers have damage falloff and range actually matters, they tend to miss some shots that are out of your effective range because the cone gets bigger and makes you less accurate.

Edytowany przez użytkownika Malygos: 10/23/2015 3:33:42 PMMain 80% across every game mode and 82.7% is my overall and i can firmly say snipers handle differently. I noticed the first time i received a year 2 sniper and have noticed on every one since i can swing scope or hard scope targets so that wasn't the issue but suddenly i was missing shots that were ringers just a month before never was a fan of body shots and since ttk my headshot percent has drop from 87.3% to the above 82% Edit: pro tip for all you drag shot guys try hereafter it hits sots you wouldn't believe
-
The accuracy and handling were noticeably decreased, but I've adjusted by now.
-
I am pretty sure something is going on. I have had to take several shots at some points... especially with the Omolon Sniper. I haven't tried any year 1 since 2.0 came out so not sure if it is the new guns or just snipers in general.
-
3 OdpowiedziOne thing I've noticed is I can't revive snipe anymore in Elimination etc. Does the revive shield grant additional immunity? Where my Benevolence etc sniped them stone dead, my 1000 Yard is only taking off half health.
-
That's because the hit box was decreased for snipers. I don't have a link to it, but a buddy from my clan told me about it. Our aim has to be a tad more accurate now. There is also a range drop off for snipers in year two. We all noticed it the first day of TTK. Flinching was also increased as well.
-
I completely agree. Black hammer, spear, benevolence, LDR seemed to be true where you shot. Spindle, 1000 yard stare seem to be off(even with hidden hand).
-
Yea hitbox works differently now. I have noticed multiple occasion where I know for sure my reticle was on the head but got a body shot instead. There was also a rumor that sniper aim assist was silently nerfed in 2.0
-
Increased range helps fix that. I use the antimony vendor version and the hereafter as a result.
-
Slight aim assist debuff?
-
I've always missed drag shots in this game. I can do it all day in something like Gears, but they never seem to register in Destiny.
-
Eriene rr4 is best I've used so far although not used black spindle
-
This! I thought it was only me. I got to the point in year one where i was using double snipers (no land beyond and ldr) and topped most games. The second TTK dropped I could barely land body shots... the feel is completely different.
-
I felt really put off with sniping after taken King dropped. I had spent a lot of time forcing myself to become a dangerous sniper and then when ttk dropped I felt like something was off. Didn't know if bungie added more flinch or what but man I felt way harder to hit headshots. And shots I thought 100% were headshots ended up missing or being body shots like you said. I just kept at it and eventually I started getting closer and closer to the comfort levels with sniping that I was before ttk. Basically just came to the conclusion that I wasn't used to getting shot by weapons that caused more flinch. People are using pulse rifles, autos, and scouts which really throw off your aim while scoping in. I don't think it had anything to do with specific changes bungie made. I'm mostly use to it now. My advice is to just keep working at it and eventually it'll feel 100% normal again. Though I do agree it seems like yr2 snipers just aren't quite as good as yr1. Rip LDR <3
