The infinite shadow shot feature, I mean glitch, seems to really have a lot of people up in arms about its use. There are many out there that call it cheating and its use in PVP should be a bannable offense. The majority of the responses seem to be emotionally driven with little or no logical reason. The way I see it is a player simply only has to press a particular sequence of buttons to activate said feature, I mean glitch. This sequence of buttons is available in game and does not require any manipulation of the game in any way. My question is, does using this sequence of buttons constitute cheating and its use be a bannable offense?
The below is Bungie's definition of cheating:
A game hack or cheat is any weakness, vulnerability, or other circumstance, unintended or unauthorized by the game's developer, that allows a player to manipulate the game to his or her own advantage, either in solo play or against other players. Hacks and cheats are distinguished from bugs and glitches by the characteristic that they cannot be easily accessed or performed by any player in the course of normal gameplay, and require unauthorized tampering with network connections, game source code, operating systems, or other backend systems rather than normal gameplay. Discussion of bugs and glitches is permissible, while discussion of hacks and cheats is prohibited.
There are also many posts flaming those that share the details of said glitch. Bungie's official position on sharing glitches is:
Discussion of bugs and glitches is permissible, while discussion of hacks and cheats is prohibited.
Here is a link to Bungie's list of bannable offenses:

Can anyone reasonable explain to me how using the infinite shadow shot feature, er glitch, is cheating and the user should be banned?
P.S. The infinite shadow shot feature, glitch, is unfair and needs to be patched for a balanced game. That is not the point. The point is understanding if the use of glitches to a player's advantage is cheating and thus bannable.

In that post it states:
Please know that cheating does not include tactical decisions like camping or using really good weapons. We're looking for people who exploit the game or the networks you use to play it.
On the other hand, Bungie actually encourages the discussion of exploits to better everybody's experience.

Edytowany przez użytkownika Lucky Cat: 10/22/2015 10:27:49 PMIt's not that it is an issue, if something that is found to be game breaking that isn't intended and explicitly ruins your experience playing the game directly, such as Quiver glitch, it is open for a bannable offense but only temporary since it is in no way hacking or seriously offending with the rules.

Edytowany przez użytkownika Llalla: 10/22/2015 12:37:03 AMCheating is NOT a technical issue. It is a moral issue. The mechanics of taking performance enhancing drugs are not the issue - It is the effect of those drugs. How you activate infinite shadowshot is not the issue - It' is the effect of it in gameplay that is the issue. As a heuristic: If it takes more than a few words to defend your actions, you know it is probably wrong. If you don't believe this is cheating, then society has failed in it's task of inculcating even the most basic of moral standards As for the ban issue. You are engaging in basic Equivocation: You are using "Cheat" in the way it is employed in technical discussions. This is not Equivalent to Cheating in the moral sense. A "Cheat" sheet in the workplace is acceptable. Cheating your employees is not. I doubt that people will be banned, because they have not tampered with equipment, or softawre in contravention of the various licence agreements they have signed on to. That, however is irrelevant. Use it in a competitive game mode and you are cheating.

It's tricky for me because I've used exploits in other games before they were patched, this game too, I enjoyed the loot cave, I sniped the Templar out of range of it's mobs... I've cheesed the entire Crota raid (who didn't?) For PvP I feel a little differently since it directly effects other players. Would I use the exploit? Nah, it's not like it's suddenly going to make me good at PvP, I would just embarrass myself with it. But I don't really care if other people use the exploit, I might be mildly angry if it kills me, but it's going to be the same anger as getting slide or blink shotgunned, it's there, I'm not fond of it, but there's not much I can do about it. The only thing I can do is NOT use it myself. tl;dr: do what you want

Speaking from a fellow hunter. Who the hell cares?! I didn't even know there was a cheat and because of that, I need to watch myself? I miss the glory days of iron man mode in games...

You're definitely a cheater if you use up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, select, start.

So if you are the banker in monopoly and just help yourself to 500 notes that's OK? After all you are just using an in built feature your body has right? Is it the game designers fault for not adding a safe to keep the money in along with other security features to stop usage of natural actions? Playing games in real life situations involves a certain amount of trust, video games mostly remove the need for this, if and when they make a mistake allowing cheating ppl make the most of it. Something most wouldn't do in a face to face game. Try and justify it however you like, but it's cheating plain and simple.

If you try to defend somebody using an exploit to ruin others PvP experience and gain an unfair advantage I really don't even know what to say to you. There is a point where arguing just for the sake of argument shows nothing but a lack of maturity. Just stop.
-
I personally dont think the player using it should get banned. I haven't done it but if i used my hunter for anything else then raid, hell i prob would try it. I people think others who use it should get banned, then all the people who used the "three of coins" exploit should also be banned? An exploit is a exploit weather its for pvp or to get exotics. Ahould just be fixed and everyone move on with their day, and if they continue to get salty maybe they should change games for a while. Just my opinion though. So not trying to start arguments :)
-
Honestly i hate people who use this in crucible, but in PvE, FASTER BOSSES! WHOOOOOO
-
Stop calling it a feature. It's obviously not a feature.
-
A big reason that might affect people's opinions is the fact that it was during iron banner.
-
If you have to question the legality of something odds are it's probably not allowed...

2 OdpowiedziExploits on Glitches are a form of cheating. Yes they are part of the game, but they are not meant to be therefore it is a cheat.

If you wish to use cheats to win than why not just play a game where higher levels/stats always win. Some people have strong morals/honor that carries into the game. Using an exploit to win is disgusting in my opinion.

11 OdpowiedziEdytowany przez użytkownika Roger_The_Gamer_: 10/21/2015 11:18:05 AMLook at it this way for everyone who thinks they are so clever, the drop rate for exotic engrams was unintentional from the ToC, the year one loot cave was unintentional so that falls under the category of cheating according to bungie. So why hasn't everyone been banned for that? It was a game changing experience in the essence of you got more content (gear) quicker than bungie wanted you to get. Opinions are welcome I am not wrong in what I am saying.

Never used it, felt like it made me too vulnerable, and I'm a fast placed player, I don't have to time to go into the menu, shoot, and repeat. I'd rather just shoot my 3 arrows and hope for 3 kills than spamming the arrows with the glitch

If you know of an exploit that gives you an unfair advantage in game...and you use it, you should at least be punished in some way. Just because it's there doesn't give you the right to use it. It only shows character, and that says a lot. If you're willing to use that, than you may be willing to use anything else to give yourself the edge. The true gamers are the ones that know about it, know how to do it, yet refrain from using it because they are mature and respect other players!!
