I think this needs to be addressed at its own post. It's been said across other threads but never as a headliner:
Year 1 end game content. Why is anyone going to play it in Year 2 if the rewards are obsolete? Please don't say that the gear will still be viable in Crucible. Nobody uses Fatebringer in PvP. New players aren't going to play old content when the vendors are offering better gear with less effort to acquire it.
There stands the chance that all Year 1 end game content will have minimal replay value since the rewards are being frozen in time. Veterans won't grind for their remaining gear and new players won't play content with weak rewards.
Is Bungie throwing away Year 1 content? Are they purposely cutting out a huge chunk of their content for current and future players?
Is Bungie going to scale up Year 1 content and then have us re-grind for our old gear? They aren't above having us re-grind for gear. They're making us re-level SOME exotics.
Deej, Cosmo, you guys got some answers?
EDIT: Obviously I'm also talking about bringing all exotics up to new attack levels as this game evolves.

1 OdpowiedźEdytowany przez użytkownika WhitEWatchEs: 8/21/2015 5:14:49 PMWe are right back to where we were when TDB came out. All of the things we worked for in HoW and all the other gear we ascended has become irrelevant after TTK drops. I know from experience that most progression style games drop the previous gear acquired, but why can't destiny be something different? I think they would have a really nice system if they allowed all gear and weapons to continue being ascended, something that other progression games don't have. I use gear and weapons from all of year 1. I honestly believe that continuing ascension wouldn't stop me from using year 2 gear too.

Bungie trolled us with Gjallarhorn BUMP

1 OdpowiedźThey're throwing it away to try and make people buy all the year 2 content to keep up. The same will happen with year 3 and so on.
-
1 OdpowiedźYep, every year they'll do it. But.. I can use my fatebringer and ghorn in pvp! *sigh*

13 OdpowiedziThis is a living, breathing game that will evolve over time. Our gear and THEIR content should always be relevant.

19 OdpowiedziFor the people saying "no other game allows you to carry over gear from one game to the next." Here's what I say: So what? Just because it's not done that way doesn't mean that Bungie should just do it the way it's always been done. Why are they following any rules? Destiny is a new type of game with no blueprint. It's irrelevant if other games don't do this. Who cares? Bungie should be forging their own way. Destiny should be doing things other games aren't doing. Making all end game gear relevant for the entire life time of this game would be ground breaking and would always make all content always relevant. I don't care if WoW doesn't do this. I'm not playing that game.

3 OdpowiedziI wanna keep my shit. I also want to continue to use my old iron banner warlock chest piece. I like it better than the new. Why would it be bad for year one players to have some things to show they are a day 1 vet? They wouldn't give us an advantage. It would just add to the reason to go after gear we like if we actually got to keep it...

1 OdpowiedźEdytowany przez użytkownika WIDEOPN: 8/21/2015 4:10:45 PMThey struck gold with VOG and so far they haven't been able to do it again. For example; I've used every other hand cannon in the game and Fatebringer (IMHO) is still the best legendary choice. There is no reason why I should not be able to continue using it if I so choose. I spent hours/weeks/months trying to obtain it; it's a special reward. Some people still don't have it and if you check LFG people are still desperately trying to get it. VOG gear, TDB gear, (and don't even get me started on Iron Banner gear) should be carried over and remain relevant. They should be making new gear that people want to use; not forcing them to use something new just because Year Two. If I come across a better hand cannon in TTK then inevitably I will use the new one; but that should my choice. On a side note; I think it would be neat if there were still some super secret hidden chest in VOG that contained an Exotic version of Fatebringer; one that could switch elemental damage type. 2 OdpowiedziYou trolls saying it's time to move on just don't get it....Destiny isn't exactly overflowing with things to do, and making items irrelevant that are only obtainable thru specific activities by default makes those activities irrelevant too. Me personally, haven't used my FB in quite some time, BUT since I am overflowing with etheric light, you bet I still jump in to VoG 1-3x a week for my chance to score a Praetorian Foil since it's still currently viable, and if it were to have a chance to be 'infused' with TTK, I'd still be trying for it, but since it won't, no more VoG in reality.

1 OdpowiedźEdytowany przez użytkownika Street Theory: 8/20/2015 10:19:45 PMBump! LONG LIVE VAULT OF GEAR! I rock my vault gear everyday that I play, weapons and armor. I still wreck in pvp with the vision, found verdict, and corrective measure. Now you strip me of my hard earned gear? Bull. I'm a day one player and I believe we should do a petition for all raid gear to stay eligible!
-
9 OdpowiedziExactly new players aren't even going to kill Crota because of the irrelevant rewards when compared to the new stuff so there is no reason for Oryx to come for revenge haha

1 OdpowiedźYou won't get any reply from Deej or Cosmo on this. Typically, they only respond to congratulatory "wow man holy crap that was the best twitch stream EVAR!!!!" type comments. Legitimate community concerns, like this one, go ignored. Follow either of them and you'll see what I mean.

2 OdpowiedziIn regards to the two current raids I totally share your opinion. I remain cautiously optimistic that at some point either in September or later on, the level requirements of the raids will be increased although deep down I have serious doubts. Because I just did a hard VoG run two days ago with myself at level 34, one level 33 and the four others level 34 as well. We beat it in under an hour only requiring three time stream openings/30 second shot windows to kill Atheon. If the new level cap will be a whopping 40 than completing VoG or CE for that matter will be a laughing joke in terms of required skill assuming the level 30 hard settings stay the same. I do remember the crew at Bungie mentioning that they haven't revealed everything that comes with dlc attempt number 3, leaving some speculation as to if this is in relation to year 1 complex activities but again I still have doubt about that. I personally feel and would have near unanimous backing here that if the raid levels stay the same than in time no one will be playing VoG or CE for potential rewards that will mean nothing in the long run. Maybe for 100% completionists who need to have one of everything but aside from that who would want a Fatebringer post Taken King? An easy fix I feel would to gradually tweak the enemy levels in VoG and CE, while allowing year 2 exotics to be earned and maybe even boost certain legendary rewards as well. Yet will this premise become reality? My guess is no but in retrospect, what choice does Bungie have? Raids used to be for the top elite players to band together and tackle some of the game's hardest challenges. If all the attention goes to the new Oryx raid instead then they might as well remove VoG and CE entirely. Granted Bungie did increase the levels for Weekly Heroic and Nightfall Strikes but that was easily expected to happen. Not just the two current raids but what about PoE? The more daunting levels are currently 32, 34 and 35 so the same argument goes for that as well if level 40's can go in there and beat Skolas in five minutes tops. And the same goes for potential rewards, did we really waste hours upon hours grinding for treasure keys for stuff that will be forever completely worthless, save for the exotics? Bungie did their live stream this week and it only showcased the tower. Yes I am fully aware that was the sole purpose of THAT stream but it continues to bother me and many others that no new information about the endgame content, even the new alleged super awesome raid that comes with The Taken King has been discussed either in GI, here or the www in general. The next stream was only teasing some gameplay from the new explorative location and a strike which also worries me since judging from the leaked picture I saw of this starship, it doesn't look any larger than a basic patrol whatever planet that we already have. So either the picture is wrong or we can easily see every inch of this ship in under an hour. I think I made some very valid points in this post although don't mistake this as criticism of Bungie. My only concern is that, to express concern over current endgame content in addition to the new content. I get the jist of the new gear, vendors, weapons but I and many others remain in the dark about the pot of gold at the end of this Taken King rainbow. We have under a month until the big red ribbon is cut so any insight into these matters is not just appreciated, but required to hold onto the skeptics that question the $40 price tag. Me I already pre ordered it on both next gen systems but here and on the web, many continue to wonder what else you guys are holding from us. I am willing to wait until the final product delivers before criticizing it as a whole as I am waiting for more reveals about the entire offerings The Taken King does in fact offer. That being said, we still have no word on the supposed hidden VoG chest location, the fate of Fate of all Fools ie will it ever become available to mainstream players and both these things are essentially year 1 issues. Other things like having to re level exotics or not bringing all year 1 stuff to year 2 doesn't really bother me, needless to say, everything I mentioned in this post is. Any response on this reply or this topic would be well requested from a Bungie representative. Again it's a waiting game until September 15th until we get our hands on the actual dlc and btw these past few months have been excruciating but I feel more reveals and info can ease the pain of the wait. Hopefully the next stream will give is more juicy insight.

3 Odpowiedzilogged onto the forum for the first time in forever to make exactly this point. it seems like it would be so easy to drop a level 40 hard mode on top of the raids and stock it with level 40 versions of the old favorites. I get that what is considered "endgame" is a moving target, but I don't want PoE and the raids to feel obsolete, and lets not forget RAIDS DONT GIVE XP, which in a now totally xp driven level up system, makes them endgame content basically by definition.

3 OdpowiedziWhen fatebringer was obsoleted by dark below, I still used it, and it still kicked ass. I thought the lower damage output was a reasonable trade off for the arc detonations. Since Word was underwhelming, I never cleared fate out. I'm thinking the old stuff will still be effective.

18 OdpowiedziUnfortunate thing is Bungie is throwing away the greatest content in Destiny. Vault of Glass Honestly without Vault of Glass , Destiny would never achieve the success they had in year one. It is still the dominant piece in Destiny. Vault of Glass experience forged great players , greatest weapons Destiny universe have saw. Unfortunately it will now be completely frozen in time. New generation of guardians will be forced to stay forever as Noobs... Long live VoG .....

13 OdpowiedziI guess the obvious question is, "How does Bungie define 'End Game'?" Since raid gear was stated to be 'end game' gear, but is now left behind, this would imply that 'end game' is purely based on the DLC in which it is awarded. Kinda takes some of the enthusiasm out of working to obtain it. So, it's the best gear for 4 months?
-
3 OdpowiedziNo, they are using exotic blueprints so we play how they want us to play. That could not be more clear with the gjally nerf and this Did you redesign Gjallarhorn? Gjallarhorn will remain a Year One Exotic at Year One levels
