Hey Guardians,
sorry for the wall of text, I believe it's a worthy wall of healthy discussion
This is my vision for a truly competitive multiplayer in Destiny worthy of becoming an esport. Frankly, I believe we are already halfway there. If you are a regular on some of the PvP streams on Twitch, you'll know that there is a huge competitive community willing to support such a huge leap forwards from bungie.
Sweaties are when two pre-made teams of 3 or 6 match up against another team of 3 or 6 to play under predetermined rules such as no final round and no heavy. They are a primitive version of custom games because they are somewhat hindered by the matchmaking algorithm. You need the fire team leaders to live relatively close to each other and search at the same time. It works 8/10 times.
This community has already created its own leaderboards and has already hosted its own tournaments with great success.
However, I, and many of the players who play this game more competitively than most believe there is a huge imbalance. Imbalance that forces us to make our own rules during these tournaments or general "sweaties".
For example, Final Round in any secondary weapon whether it is on a shotgun or sniper is not allowed. Why? It's broken. But hey, you didn't need me to tell you that. Yet, that is still not the problem. Weapons will always be receiving balance updates, as it is the nature of any FPS game. I just wish it would happen a little bit more frequently and consistently.
Furthermore, with the introduction of The Ram in the House of Wolves DLC, Warlocks became ever more increasingly powerful to the point where they could survive a shoulder charge?? Thorn+Arc Bolt??? Flux Grenades??? Even Rockets that would have killed you without The Ram??? This addition forced players go ban Exotic armour in general because why ban one exotic armour piece and not the others? Some people even went as far as banning all exotics, including weapons because let's face it, in the current meta, it's all Thorn or Last Word. If you don't play the meta in these game types you're destined to lose.
With exotic armour, comes the imbalance of the subclasses that they boost. Some of the perks on these subclasses have been broken since launch.
How many times have you seen a Hunter at 0.1% health where he stabbed you in the face and one shotted you? That's the back stab glitch. How many times have you seen a hunter blink and shotgun you as soon as he came out of blink. That's quick draw. The single most annoyingly overpowered perk in the game. It's the only reason why hunters are the optimal class for Blink-Shotgun. Flame Shield? No class in the game has as much HP as a Sunsinger.
The imbalance doesn't stop there. I've hardly ever, if not never, seen a Titan in sweaties. Why? Because they suck donkey meat in comparison to other classes. Voidwalkers, and these days even Gunslingers, are also immensely rare. It has become a meta of Firebolts and Arc Bolts. I don't blame people for playing the meta, that's the smart move. However, I also admire those that handicap themselves in order to become better players and feel a lot more satisfaction from killing their sweaty try harding opponents. On the other hand, someone who uses the Hopscotch Pilgrim versus someone of the same skill using The Last Word everywhere they go will not be on equal footing. That's just fact!
Last but not least, I'm sick and tired of waiting in orbit for 5 minutes (sometimes 10 because of someone's shit Internet) just to match up against another bunch of Virgins for a meaningless test of our dick sizes. We need private lobbies and custom games. The potential of this games PvP is massively hindered because of the lack of these two features.
What is your take on the Crucible and its current meta? Do you believe it to be competitive? What improvement do you believe should be prioritised?
TL;DR
- weapons are not balanced and I know bungie are looking into it. That's great. They should do it more often and with more consistency.
- they need to stop ignoring the OP armour and subclass perks and start looking into way to make other classes competitively viable to use.
- please give us private lobbies and custom games. I'm so incredibly horny for those two things, as are 99% of the competitive multiplayer community on Twitch and across the destiny universe
GIVE THIS POST A BUMP IF YOU AGREE
edit: Some people here wish to be toxic and immature when we are trying to discuss the issues of the Multiplayer in Destiny. It's sad that instead of contributing to the topic in a mature, and insightful way, they choose to name call and belittle the optimistic vision some of us share for this game.
4 OdpowiedziFist of havoc counters anything, not to mention that lightning grenades if put in the right hands are better than bolt grenades.

4 OdpowiedziCompletely agree. I play my fair share of sweaties and the mechanics/weapons/perks you mentioned are undoubtedly OP. Hopefully this weapon balance that's coming will expand the meta past exotic handcannons and shotties. However, I've come to understand some people's opinions that include "if everything is OP, then nothing is". Sure a sunsinger ram has more armor then everybody else but a blade dancer has the backstab glitch. Sure blink shotties are annoying, but that's why people run TLW and sniper. Idk, every class is kind of OP in their own right, so why ban anything? If everyone's using thorn or TLW then no one is at a true advantage.... Or maybe the sweat is just getting to my head. :p
-
5 OdpowiedziWhat do you mean make all classes competitively viable? They already are. Three of the best people in the world: poshy, geb, and warbulletproof. They all use different classes. That in and of itself shows that the class doesn't matter nearly as much as the player.

2 OdpowiedziThe current state of the Crucible is, for lack of a better word, a cluster-blam!-! And you have to start at the very beginning. This games lack of skill-based matchmaking for a standard game of PvP is horrendous. We've all been there, on a team of complete retards who just seem to spawn, run to the enemy and die over and over and over and....you get the idea. Then, there's Destiny's JIP...if I join another Elimination game that's 4-0 or Clash that's 18000-2000, I'm going to lose my shit. Let's not forget about the horrendously unstable connection on almost every game you play. There's always that one red-barring dude glitching all over the place. Next up we have the things OP talked about. I would like to add a few extra points, though. What ruins the competitive element for me is handing Heavy to two different points of a map, forcing teams in opposite directions, to then crouch and camp/rush to a big mess, rather than having one box spawn in the middle of the map and having the teams fight it out (yes, I'm aware that that can lead to one douchebag picking it up by himself, but there's no difference from now then, really? And on the plus side of said douche picking it up is that the enemy will not have Heavy). A perk that really grinds my gears is Grenades and Horseshoes (I know it's getting nerfed slightly, my point is that it shouldn't exist). Nobody should have the ability to blindly and carelessly fire a rocket and get a kill in a competitive manor. Any rockets should act like the Halo Rocket Launcher ones. Another perk is Target Acquisition (really Bungie? Have you not learned anything?). If you don't know what this perk does, it allows your weapon to have a bigger than normal hit-box on an opponents head, which means you can miss slightly and it will still connect. It's like Bungie wants this game to be played by scrubs. On top of that perk, is the fact that some Sniper Rifles come with a ridiculous amount of Aim Assist/TA, the number one spot going to Shadow of Veils. Her Benevolence is another high end one (this information is readily available, can't remember where though. Might be Planet Destiny). This perk shouldn't exist, either. If you can't land a headshot, tough. Perks that make this game unfair should be removed. This is just my input, I'm sure there would be other things if I could remember. These are just my top hated things.

2 OdpowiedziEdytowany przez użytkownika Mr EGFC: 8/17/2015 8:59:09 PMDestiny 's PvP experience is not supposed to be (but unfortunately is, hence set weapon impact/rate of fire types) the primary game mode. You play Destiny for it's MMO RPG element with the Crucible to fill in gaps. I'm sure you probably dont know but what you are doing is detrimental to the game, this complaint about balance and hatred for playstyles is what create toxic pits like Call of Duty's community. There are problems with the Crucible that are in dire need of attention (Titan Subclasses not being one of them), but you are playing the wrong game if you are regularly playing it over the PvE content. And let's be honest, your language is getting you nowhere. Instead of creating a reasonable argument for your case that people can connect with you just sound like a big cry baby with milk that's too warm.

Exotic armor was banned in sweaties long before the ram

11 OdpowiedziEdytowany przez użytkownika Fridén: 8/17/2015 9:01:47 PMThe ram is NOT overpowered. I have it and actually prefer other exotics over it depending on the map and game type I am playing. Handicapping yourself by playing gunsliner or voidewalker LOL, you must be crazy. Striker titan may be underwhelming compared to the other classes, but lightning grenades are amazing and the titans super is the true counter to every other super in the game with the exception of nova bomb. You couldn't be more wrong.

Final round should be: a headshot kill with the final round in a magazine grants a full magazine.

3 OdpowiedziI laugh every time someone puts "competitive pvp" and "destiny" together. This game WILL NEVER be a competitive pvp, NO MATTER how much you are anyone else try's to. Bungie will never have dedicated servers and without that just don't even talk about it. While I agree with your points just stop trying to treat this game like it's something it's not. The fact that most of you haven't figured out what Bungie has done is beyond me. As much as I complain about some of the things in this game, I can't argue with the model they produced. This game is simple. The game mechanics are fun, smooth, and addicting. The PVE is just entertaining enough to be enjoyable. The raids were just hard enough that a few great players could team up with a few ok players and complete. The RNG is so bad that it actually helps everyone regardless of skill. The PVP is the same. A OP weapon and armor can help a bad player at least be helpful while playing. Iron Banner rewards everyone as long as they put the time in. Trials lets face it, it's based on luck with the randomized matchmaking. You get paired up with 7 team worse or as good as your team you can go flawless and if you don't you get a new card and try again. Everything that this game is, is meant not only for great players, but for average to below average players as well. If you want competitive PVP find another game.

3 OdpowiedziI love my Titan. It's mainly what I use for PvP. Granted I use the superbly OP gun that is called Strangers Rifle. I don't try to shotgun everything because I KNOW that Titans aren't good at that. But I can out run a blade dancer and shotgun him when his super drops. It takes seriously skilled people to be good with a Titan. Anyone can run warlock and roast everything with their OP Viking Funeral grenades. And anyone can play as a blink shotgunning blade dancer. Those two subclasses should be flat out banned from any "Sweaty" event. There is zero skill involved in those two current subclasses. And yes I will say this right now. The Titan Sunbreaker will be just as OP as Sunsinger and Blade Dancers. I will keep handicapping myself to keep playing PvP on my Titan. I'm currently trying to finish my hunters and warlocks grim ore for PvP and that will be the last I I'll use those characters for.

I want forge mode

I love sweaties

I don't give myself a handicap at all. I main a Titan with hopscotch pilgrim (optimal rolls) Efrideets spear (Best Rolls) And Truth I can outgun thorn and last word. I shouldn't have to try so hard to though, as if I don't get the first hit, there is barely enough reaction time for me to look at them.. I'm a Top 9k player in Destiny, far from the best, but I'm not a bad player.

Nice post. I feel what you are saying. With that said i do not think bungie meant for destiny to be "competative"..these are the makers of halo and destiny could not be farther from competative halo, that was no accident. COD is more competative than destiny. For destiny to be competative bungie would have to scratch off pretty much all it has created. It's not the old bungie anymore. Maps are too small for 6v6, spawning is horrible, lag. Blink shotgun is only effective because of the map rotation. Go to combined arms and see shotgun blink get destroyed, too many elements that bungie will never change. Bungie wants those OP weapons in play. Folks think the thorn nerf will actually be a nerf..thorn will be better than before, bungie will make sure of that. They love their little creation, they have a god complex when it comes how they want us to play their game. I refuse to go with thorn, last word ,vex or red death. I have used them a lot in the past and i got over them..now they made me feel cheap. A competative mode to me would be the following. T.O.O style but the only thing we bring is the character class. We dont bring weapons. No exotics. Each round everyone is given different loadouts but same to all..ex..H.C..sniper..lmg...or scout, shotgun, rockets. So on so forth..why like this you ask?? Well it forces everyone who plays to be good with different weapons. Thats a competative mode. Revive warlocks should only get 15 seconds to choose and revive, if they dont then super stays they do not lose it. No invisible hunters thats just rediculous. Nades snd horseshoes should only bebon exotics, the aim assist on some weapons are just stupid. The prudence sniper on my hunter has so much aim assist that i can pop players on the shoulder and have it register ss a headshot. Ita just silly man. When i first got thorn i used it so damm much that when i wanted to use something else i had to readjust. Im bumping your post but it dont think we will ever get any of this to happen. Lets hope for the best. Good luck guardian.

Go play a game where you have total control in PVP, instead of assuming Bungie are going to change THEIR game just to suit a few players such as yourself. Oh right, there isn't such a game... Go make your own game where you control everything...Oh wait, you can't, because you didn't study computer programming... Well, umm, what to do, what to do.... OHHHH Shut Up Meg

2 OdpowiedziThorn and last word is Op but OP is just butthurt about everything else. Git gud scrub. I use my messenger and reck People with it

Honestly there is only 3 real broken exotic armors: Ram, Raspberry, Sting's. A sun singer can literally face tank three dudes and kill them with fire bolt nades easy with Ram. I lost rounds in ToO because arc bolt chained way further then anyone could have guessed. Easy team wipe with double nades at the start. Invisibility has 0 counter play if you don't catch a visible blue sway, good luck most maps you can't even see them. You could make a case for Manacles but it doesn't offer the same convenience. As for anything else Snipers + acquisition, any shotgun with range mods, pretty much every rocket now, and soon to be LMG are pretty broken. At least with the old Auto riffles you could take something like Grim, Vanq, or Price and be okay vs Suros. Now you either play the OP or complain.

I have gone flawless 4/5 times my team have played Trails and I have full Trails Armour... With my Titan. I run with a Sunsinger, (Not a Viking Funeral one Either) and a Gunslinger. We are proud to use Spare Change 25 and 123 SYZYGY. Until we got Messenger Adept at least. ;) If they can't balance the weapons or armour then I would hope they try and match like for like. Thorn users vs other Thorn users. That would be nice.
