Hey Guardians,
sorry for the wall of text, I believe it's a worthy wall of healthy discussion
This is my vision for a truly competitive multiplayer in Destiny worthy of becoming an esport. Frankly, I believe we are already halfway there. If you are a regular on some of the PvP streams on Twitch, you'll know that there is a huge competitive community willing to support such a huge leap forwards from bungie.
Sweaties are when two pre-made teams of 3 or 6 match up against another team of 3 or 6 to play under predetermined rules such as no final round and no heavy. They are a primitive version of custom games because they are somewhat hindered by the matchmaking algorithm. You need the fire team leaders to live relatively close to each other and search at the same time. It works 8/10 times.
This community has already created its own leaderboards and has already hosted its own tournaments with great success.
However, I, and many of the players who play this game more competitively than most believe there is a huge imbalance. Imbalance that forces us to make our own rules during these tournaments or general "sweaties".
For example, Final Round in any secondary weapon whether it is on a shotgun or sniper is not allowed. Why? It's broken. But hey, you didn't need me to tell you that. Yet, that is still not the problem. Weapons will always be receiving balance updates, as it is the nature of any FPS game. I just wish it would happen a little bit more frequently and consistently.
Furthermore, with the introduction of The Ram in the House of Wolves DLC, Warlocks became ever more increasingly powerful to the point where they could survive a shoulder charge?? Thorn+Arc Bolt??? Flux Grenades??? Even Rockets that would have killed you without The Ram??? This addition forced players go ban Exotic armour in general because why ban one exotic armour piece and not the others? Some people even went as far as banning all exotics, including weapons because let's face it, in the current meta, it's all Thorn or Last Word. If you don't play the meta in these game types you're destined to lose.
With exotic armour, comes the imbalance of the subclasses that they boost. Some of the perks on these subclasses have been broken since launch.
How many times have you seen a Hunter at 0.1% health where he stabbed you in the face and one shotted you? That's the back stab glitch. How many times have you seen a hunter blink and shotgun you as soon as he came out of blink. That's quick draw. The single most annoyingly overpowered perk in the game. It's the only reason why hunters are the optimal class for Blink-Shotgun. Flame Shield? No class in the game has as much HP as a Sunsinger.
The imbalance doesn't stop there. I've hardly ever, if not never, seen a Titan in sweaties. Why? Because they suck donkey meat in comparison to other classes. Voidwalkers, and these days even Gunslingers, are also immensely rare. It has become a meta of Firebolts and Arc Bolts. I don't blame people for playing the meta, that's the smart move. However, I also admire those that handicap themselves in order to become better players and feel a lot more satisfaction from killing their sweaty try harding opponents. On the other hand, someone who uses the Hopscotch Pilgrim versus someone of the same skill using The Last Word everywhere they go will not be on equal footing. That's just fact!
Last but not least, I'm sick and tired of waiting in orbit for 5 minutes (sometimes 10 because of someone's shit Internet) just to match up against another bunch of Virgins for a meaningless test of our dick sizes. We need private lobbies and custom games. The potential of this games PvP is massively hindered because of the lack of these two features.
What is your take on the Crucible and its current meta? Do you believe it to be competitive? What improvement do you believe should be prioritised?
TL;DR
- weapons are not balanced and I know bungie are looking into it. That's great. They should do it more often and with more consistency.
- they need to stop ignoring the OP armour and subclass perks and start looking into way to make other classes competitively viable to use.
- please give us private lobbies and custom games. I'm so incredibly horny for those two things, as are 99% of the competitive multiplayer community on Twitch and across the destiny universe
GIVE THIS POST A BUMP IF YOU AGREE
edit: Some people here wish to be toxic and immature when we are trying to discuss the issues of the Multiplayer in Destiny. It's sad that instead of contributing to the topic in a mature, and insightful way, they choose to name call and belittle the optimistic vision some of us share for this game.
1 OdpowiedźAm I considered a Sweaty if the AC in my house is broken?

5 Odpowiedzi1. Dedicated Servers 2. Custom matches 3. Preset loadouts Keep in mind this is a PVE focused game. While a lot of energy gets put into crucible to try and keep it fair and keep players engaged to facilitate maximum replay value, in terms of serious fundamental infrastructure investment, PVE will always come first

1 OdpowiedźWorried about the new game informer video. Seemed very focused on making pvp appealing to the pvp haters and casual pvp players. Bungie needs to focus on supporting their most hardcore, competitive pvp players. They are the ones who drive the meta, make the strategies and are the players people watch on twitch and YouTube. Every time people watch good pvp players engage in competitive pvp, it's free advertising for Bungie. They need to acknowledge that with support. The game could get so much publicity through an destiny e sports scene

4 OdpowiedziA well written post. I think that there's a lot of stuff in this that is very credible, since it's obviously coming from someone who has at least an ounce of intelligence. Most people are either to stupid to admit any of these things, or they complain about it too often because they're always on the receiving end. Once again, it's nice to see a well-written post on these forums that actually addresses the matter.

4 OdpowiedziUsual rules are no exotic armor, no final round on snipers and no heavy; also no jumping off the cliff (or reviving people who fall off cliffs), This is a common rule set that doesn't give any class a specific advantage due to a broken exotic like lucky raspberry or the ram.

1 OdpowiedźAll this balance and nerfing makes it feel like call of duty I don't want everyone to be the same I want variety and crazy weird guns and armor that actually does stuff. Like they have been doing. So gotta disagree with you sorry. I will admit some things (thorn and final round) are so often contained about they should fix it to satisfy the majority

5 OdpowiedziI don't really play competitively, but bump. I play for fun, and multiplayer is too off balance to have just a regular fun game right now. :\

9 OdpowiedziA good suggestion for Private Lobbies would be that they wouldn't count towards your kd or bounties or give you experience or rewards. If they did, then it would be abused to give one person high kd, or help someone finish the Thorn bounty by effectively doing nothing.

8 OdpowiedziYou spend a WOT (wall of text) explaining first hie one set of perks is the best, then another then a third... Basically, your argument boils down to wanting everyone to be exactly the same. I'm a pvp scrub slowly getting a little bit better, but (and I'm sure there are things to balance) the game isn't broken and given that there is a healthy mix of classes in the crucible, it seems that things are working out well. Is Thorn and TLW op? Maybe a little, but I can only say that I've recently been using a low impact AR and I've been doing just fine when I concentrate on the right range and platstyle for it. I can't snipe for shit, but the shotgun works for me. TLDR - op wrote loads, but the argument is milky...

Sweaties = Tryhards ?

9 OdpowiedziMan then go play Call of duty where everyone starts the same.

1 OdpowiedźCustom games would get 99% of the sweaty players out of the public matches and let the people who aren't so competitive enjoy their regular matchmaking.

2 OdpowiedziThis game takes zero skill therefore it's impossible for a competitive community to exist. what you have is a bunch of virgins who probably suck dick at halo and call of duty come on Destiny and blink felwinters and want to start a competitive scene the reason why no one pays attention to these "sweaties" is because the game isn't built for competitive play. Move along and give up I laugh at these "competitive" matches where all you see are blade dancers thorn and felwinters. YEAH COMPETITIVE LOL.
-
I wish bc I love this game
-
2 OdpowiedziEven with the variety of weapons, exotics, perks, (i.e. The Ram, Thorn, Final Round…etc…), it's more about strategy isn't it? Rather than banning things from being competitive, why not try and strategize against your opponent? That's what makes this game unique IMO, and more interesting. I'm sure you could go against a Warlock with The Ram, and still prevail as champion.
-
The real problem be mouse and keyboard users like me :s only just recently got it so it's hard to balance my stats up to my current level of play but I can 360 with a small hand movement and track people's heads even while blinking with insane ease.

1 OdpowiedźEdytowany przez użytkownika J117: 8/18/2015 9:38:37 AMThe crucible in destiny is never going to be a balanced experience and to make it so would ruin the fun of this game. If you want to play competitive pvp go play a straight up fps without supers and pretty insane weapon/armour perks like black ops etc. Also regarding the final round thing, it is not broken it's how they designed it to be. Everyone who wants a balanced pvp experience are ruining this game by demanding nerfs to things e.g auto rifles! I've had my favourite weapons nerfed to oblivion due to pvp players demanding nerfs. I never play crucible so my experience in this game is being ruined due to a mode I don't play. Thanks! This game is not just about the bloody crucible. You seem to forget that a lot of players in this game play pve not pvp and are getting screwed over by pvp player's demands.

1 OdpowiedźMy clan who is mediocre at pvp got matched against a team of everyone with 1.5 million to 3.5 million medal scores and got destroyed 20k to 3k, half the time I couldn't even tell who was shooting me when I died as they were like ninjas (which is funny as our clan name is house of ninjas), anyway I agree with you, bump to your post
