If you're a socialist you're sad. You don't realize how many rights you're handing over to the government. Anyone who is a socialist is a puppet

3 OdpowiedziThis article stopped being relevant when it blamed our problems on socialism. "While capitalism’s success can be readily seen in the United States (although now in decline, due in part to socialist policies)" Our problems stem from unregulated banking practices. Capitalism is great but there need to be guidelines to enforce safe and legal business practices. Also, big business has interjected itself into policy creation which only ends up helping the rich become richer, creating an even bigger wealth gap. The U.S. is now more closely related to an oligarchy than a democracy. Now, a complete socialist system of government is obviously a bad idea but interjecting socialist ideas can be beneficial to the country, democracy and capitalism. Look at Sweden. They are not a socialist country but have social democratic practices. They take care of their people with healthcare, education, maternity leave, employment and pension benefits, and comprehensive care for the elderly and disabled. All of this while maintaining a free market, capitalist society. Conservatives see socialism as a system that takes everything from the rich and gives to the undeserving poor, which is great rhetoric but completely wrong when seen in context of a nation like Sweden and the actual practice of Democratic Socialism. This goes for many Nordic and European countries. It is possible to have a capitalist free market economy coexist in harmony with welfare policies.

Since when is socialism a matter of national politics and foreign relations? Sharing is caring. Silly anthropologist.

I believe that a songwriter for the musical '1776' wrote," most men with nothing would rather protect the possibility of becoming rich, than face the reality of being poor, and that is why they will follow us to the (political) right"

5 OdpowiedziEdytowany przez użytkownika NaLo: 8/15/2015 8:24:44 PMAs if the US-style badly regulated capitalism/oligarchy is any better.
We have deluded ourselves into believing the myth that capitalism grew and prospered out of the Protestant ethic of hard work and sacrifices. Capitalism was built on the exploitation of black slaves and continues to thrive on the exploitation of the poor, both black and white, both here and abroad.
- Martin Luther King Jr.

13 OdpowiedziEdytowany przez użytkownika LordZoltan: 8/9/2015 11:54:04 PMWhat an excellent article. Had anyone taken a moment to click the link and read it they would've understood what you were saying. But as you are well aware, there are those in our society who've signed on board the marxist/socialist/communist band wagon. And no amount of truth or facts will sway them. No. Instead they've convinced themselves that if we just tried it here, it would work. If we just read Marx we would understand. If we would just buy off on the whole "workers paradise" and let the government run our lives, life would be so much better. They'll claim that the social programs we already have are a form of socialism. And therefore we as a society have already chosen to embrace certain aspects of socialism and that we should just take the next logical step and embrace it fully. Every time they go on about crony capitalism or coporate greed they try to say that it represents capitalism. And because of this, capitalism is a broken down theory. They say this because it serves their ends. What they fail to acknowledge is every person is responsible for themselves. They act as if each and every one of us have no choice in the direction our lives take and that somehow it is the responsibility of the responsible in our society to take care of the irresponsible. Nonsense! Socialism is a lie. It is a disease. A contagion that must be eradicated. No longer can we afford to tolerate those who would subvert our system in order to destroy it. Instead we must use their tactics and shout from the rooftops about the ills of socialism!

6 OdpowiedziHoly shit. How can anyone stand against all those slippery slopes! What a bull shit fear mongering article. If you haven't noticed this country already has social programs. And yet Stalin has not risen from the grave and killed our children. A few more social programs isn't going to change shit but for the better. How ridiculous, can the right ever come up with an argument that isn't a slippery slope? "Omg they want background checks on guns?! That must mean they gonna take em all away!!"

The end result of communism is abolition of government and that's my reason for believing in it. As a theory at least. In practice however the ruling party in every communist country so far has failed to follow through with that one final transition. For the simple reason that those who seek power are those least suited to it, and those best suited to it will be unable to attain it. In short, no political system ever truly works because people are dicks.

13 OdpowiedziSocialists just want what I have but are incapable of working as hard as I do. And that's unfair to them.
-
12 Odpowiedzicapitalism drives people to work hard and use their full potential because they are properly rewarded for doing so. socialism and communism doesn't encourage hard work because people aren't properly rewarded.

9 OdpowiedziWhy do people think that a capitalistic society would be any better. I thought it was already clear that both capitalism and socialism have thee merits as well as shortfalls. Why not a healthy blend between the two?

44 OdpowiedziI am truly amazed that every time this subject comes up in these forums how so many rush to the defense of socialism and communism. They go on extolling the virtues of such a system while flat out denying its failures and atrocities the world over. History has shown time and again that it doesn't work. And it will never work. And still they go on defending it. Communist dictators have killed millions and the defenders say it was because the dictator was bad and not because communism and socialism breed these kind of thugs. When you look at socialist/communist countries the world over throughout history, you will see death. And they think we should embrace this in the U.S. Ha! The Selfishness of the human condition almost certainly guarantees corruption in any government institution. And they would give up our personal freedoms, such as they are, to an out of control government bent on ruling us? That's just sad. To all of those defending socialism and communism, go live in Russia, Cuba, China, Venezuela, Vietnam, North Korea, or any other communist nation. And if you make it back out alive, tell us the wonders of the workers paradise.

You're right pure socialism and communism don't work. Pure anything doesn't work.

7 OdpowiedziSocialism is just the latest political buzzword used to frighten americans toward a desired mentality. Just like the communist fear mongering of the 70's and 80's. Fact of the matter is, damn near every 1st world nation has adopted socialist ideologies in some capacity today. And to my knowledge, none of them look outside and see the sky falling yet. Political people are such drama queens..

MLK was technically a socialist right?
-
Honestly I couldn't care less what rights statists (that includes republicans to a lesser extent too) hand over to their god government. As long as they don't hand over my rights.
