This about sums up some of the vulgar messages Dames of Destiny received. I rarely make posts on this forum but today I felt the need to.
Having played with a few Dames on LFG and asking them about their clan so I could have an informed opinion I found out what the Dames of Destiny are all about.
It takes no longer than 10 mins of scrolling this forum to see that women by a portion of this community are regularly belittled and receive a substantial amount of abuse. That is not to say all the community do, but there is a portion. Dames of Destiny (from my understanding) was created so women had an environment where they could play the game without the risk of receiving abusive comments. Not only this, they also provide a safe environment for younger female players to play free from abuse or bigotry.
I cannot understand why people are playing the sexist card in relation to them or defending some of the comments expressed by certain individuals of the community.
If this community was filled with racist remarks would you be surprised to see clans appear that were free from racism?
I have seen several clans created which are under 16's because they feel safer playing with their age group than a more mature player is this wrong?
My clan is UK based only because logistically it is easier to play with UK based players. Are you feeling aggrieved by this?
I also play with fellow veterans in veteran only clans because they provide a relaxed environment where members can speak freely knowing other members have shared the same experiences. Is that unacceptable as well?
Personally i'm disgusted by the comments i've read and i'm well aware it's a small minority who were involved. This community has done some great things when we've come together. Standing up against bigotry should be one.
Before I get the usual 'white knight' and 'wannabe hero' comments, I wouldn't class myself as either. Having served in both Afghanistan and Iraq however, I believe in standing up against bigotry even in the face of adversity.
I'm also aware that the Dames of Destiny are more than capable of defending themselves but it doesn't mean we as a community should stand by.
Be strong enough to stand alone, be yourself enough to stand apart, but be wise enough to stand together when the time comes

Edit - Just to make clear to some of you who are jumping to false presumptions, not once in my post have I mentioned the twitch feed regarding wishyouluck. Take two seconds to look through this post and you will several comments telling the dames to go suck something. This post and a lot of my previous are anit-bigotry in all forms. Regardless if I witness homophobia, racism, sexism etc. If you take two minutes to have a look at them you will see this. It just so happens that the Dames are relevant at this moment in time and i'm disgusted by some of the comments I have read.

Noone cares

Hey I like playing with mature people. They are even fine playing with me even though I am a kid. But squeakers are annoying and should turn off their mic if they want to play.

Dames can suck my corpse in crucible because I'm not a great Pvp person and would most likely die against them

Clickbait title.

3 Odpowiedzi
"Having played with a few Dames on LFG and asking them about their clan so I could have an informed opinion I found out what the Dames of Destiny are all about. "
And...? It almost sounded like you were going somewhere with that.
"It takes no longer than 10 mins of scrolling this forum to see that women by a portion of this community are regularly belittled and receive a substantial amount of abuse."
I found none of these posts. I see posts talking about the whole incident with the Dames's stream. But I don't see posts belittling women in that context, let alone any other context. I can't even find any evidence for what was said to and about the Dames during the stream. Can you link me to any of these posts?
"If this community was filled with racist remarks would you be surprised to see clans appear that were free from racism? I have seen several clans created which are under 16's because they feel safer playing with their age group than a more mature player is this wrong? I also play with fellow veterans in veteran only clans because they provide a relaxed environment where members can speak freely knowing other members have shared the same experiences. Is that unacceptable as well?"
No, but I haven't heard one person on this forum complain that there is a group for women that want to play with other women, nor do they complain that there are groups that generally include only a certain kind of person. I see a lot of petitions to not nerf blackhammer, but no petitions to dismantle the Dames's group, for example, or anyone elses for that matter. Have you seen any such petitions? Or maybe you've seen posts that expressed a similar sentiment? Feel free to link them for me, because I haven't seen any of them.
"Personally i'm disgusted by the comments i've read and i'm well aware it's a small minority who were involved."
Again, please share them. I'd like for you and I to be on the same page.
"This community has done some great things when we've come together. Standing up against bigotry should be one."
Aren't we doing this already? Again, show me someone who isn't decrying the comments that were made on the stream, or the threats that were sent to the Dames. Rather, show me someone who is supporting sexism on this forum, and supports the threats that were made against the Dames. Serious threats are already against the law, and I'm sure by now they have been reported to the police, because those kinds of threats are a crime. This community is already policing itself just fine, so what stance have we yet to make?
"Before I get the usual 'white knight' and 'wannabe hero' comments, I wouldn't class myself as either. Having served in both Afghanistan and Iraq however, I believe in standing up against bigotry even in the face of adversity."
People are not going to use the term "white knight" as a pejorative against you because you stand against bigotry. They will use it because you are carrying the burdens of other people, burdens that are not yours, and fighting other people's battles. And in the process you are dragging gender politics into a community that only wants to play video games.

2 OdpowiedziIf text cuts very deep into someone to the point that they fall apart or even contemplate suicide, or words do the same, we need to take a look at ourselves. Most of humanity needs to grow a backbone and thicker skin.

The majority of adult male gamers I play with wouldn't even bat an eye if they ended up in a lobby with a female players. It's simply a non issue. Unfortunately, the nature of gaming itself, and the prevalence of anonymity in forums and games, provides an outlet for the more deviant types who are, in all likelihood, borderline sociopaths. It gives these nutjobs a place to spout off at the mouth. We'll never be rid of them until the anonymity is taken away.

2 OdpowiedziThat comment wasn't even directed at the Dames. Why are they mad about that?

13 OdpowiedziAs a dame myself, thank you :) I was not part of the bungie bounty but with the clan tag on my name I have gotten some hate mail myself recently. Not everyone on Destiny is a horrible person or sexist but there's those select few who make it uncomfortable for me once they find out I'm a female gamer. I've learned not to let it get to me at this point, but the fact that it happens still baffles me. =/

How sad it is that people can read this post and still cry "white knight." But then again, maybe they're right. If I happened to dislike cats, I would naturally wish them all extinct! It's so obvious. ...Ugh.

24 OdpowiedziI'll agree you should be able to game free from abuse.. So Dames of Destiny were formed to provide a safe friendly environment for female players.. Free from abuse from male players!!! But then they decided to except Bungies offer to play live on a feed where ppl can comment!! WHAT DID THEY THINK WAS GOING TO HAPPEN!!? It's almost as though they accepted the offer to prove what they say they go through !!!

35 OdpowiedziEdytowany przez użytkownika SkaTerDaF: 8/1/2015 6:28:32 AMI have frequently been on destiny and this app since launch and I have never seen or heard a sexist remark. I have never seen anything at all that belittles women or would cause them any fear to play this game in the least. I don't know where the fuk your getting any of that.

1 OdpowiedźDude byf and all the other you tubers are pussys who can't take a joke whatsoever. Deej deserved this he's a horrible community manager. I don't understand how byf thought wish said dames suck my balls and no deej suck my balls. He's obviously doing it for views and trying to throw the competition out of the way.

1 OdpowiedźI bet if we took a poll on the immaturity in the game and community, I say top 75 percent would be people 26 and younger, the human brain does not fully mature till around that age, and that's a scientific fact.

8 Odpowiedzi....how about not making an girl only clan then? Sorry, but if you want fairness, play with some fairness then

I read a story in Wired and saw a subsequent story on 20/20 or somewhere about the treatment of women in the gaming industry. Female game designers are constantly barraged with deragatory emails from fans of the game even death threats on themselves and their families. There are cases were they even escalated to where the police had to relocate them for their safety. It pretty much boils down to some people are dbags... whether they were taught to be a dbag from their families or arrived there all by themselves thats were they are now. The problem is they just are not right in the head. Unfortunately this means that reasoning with them or rational arguments are not going to change them. They will not change unless some event forces them to...

3 OdpowiedziEdytowany przez użytkownika GANTZ: 8/1/2015 4:50:27 PMsince the content is stale and new dlc is deparately needed at this point , deej , byf , wishmeluck plotted a master plan to spice up the destiny universe ,of course to make a good story we need a hero/white knight and a villian/martyr and a victim , the roles were quickly decided between wish deej and the gang , but then suddnly deej realized , what if he he's not a good enough internet violence victim because you know all the controversy about deej controlling wht xur sells and weekly updates so he got this brillinat idea "guys lets use the dames from destiny to create a even bigger scandal to provide thrill to the new action/content thirsty audience " , the dames not knowing what awaits them blindly followed the sudden bungie bounty invite to get some more internet fame just to be abused by the dedicated villian in this story , well actually the dames were just bystanders in the nasty internet assault , but thats where our white knight hero comes on the scene twisting words and punishing our anti-hero martyr by taking away his stream job and now he has to suffer hunger and pain , once again the good guys in destiny saved the day from evil internet sexists, well played Deej and the two other guys , it was video game oscar worthy!

I just hate everyone equally, so all of you can suck my balls. As for all of these people flocking under the anti sexism banner, I'm sure the girls can defend themselves. They don't need, nor want some internet stranger trying to fight their corner. To assume that is just as discriminatory. Now get get back to playing complaining about thorn.
