The next time you're out on patrol, take a look around you. How awesome would it be if you could truly "go there". No linear canyons, buildings to traverse....
I will never understand why Bungie implemented these ceilings. They literally cut back on explorable space and alternate ways for players to play.
The next time you spawn onto Mars, take a look straight ahead. There is no reason why we shouldn't be able to cruise over the dunes straight ahead to the dust palace, launching and jumping out sparrows over sand dunes.
Why limit something that lacks so much to begin with? It's there! Just remove the damn invisible ceiling!
Edit: So if the sky cap was removed, what would you do?

I like to "mountain climb" and see how high/low I can get. The VoG alone has so many footholds and cliffs everywhere. Just got capped from climbing on top of the cliffs over the gatekeeper area. I don't expect spit and polish up there, just want to reach it.

Last gen. You see games more like that now on current gen. But that'd be beyond last gen capabilities with current graphics.

8 OdpowiedziMe and a friend climbed around the Vex ruins on Venus past Campus 9 for about an hour, discovering all kinds of neat panoramic views and of course, broken textures and meshes. We fell out of the map quite a lot, but discovered many things. Then we discovered rocks that we could push around on the Endless Steps, so we found every rock on the map and pushed them onto the Gate Lord's pressure pad. Then another friend joins our voice chat and says 'I finally got Fatebringer from VoG! What have you guys been doing?' To which we both answer; 'we pushed rocks up stairs for an hour'. Still a more engaging activity than all of Prison of Elders.

The most epic part of Assasins creed (besides the bloodshed) was the Viewpoint towers that gave you that epic 360° landscape shot

When I went ghost hunting I found little nooks I didn't even know existed ,and the Vault of Glass has soooo much surface space to play on its crazy. Mars is the most restricting in my opinion.

They didn't want us to find areas that are on the disc that will be future DLC.

If you bladedance cross the VoG just before Atheon you can get to the other side of the canyon just past the lone gate. You'll find a solid platform with a dent in it and if you crouch/walk into it you can see under the map. Though it's nothing special. I wish there were enemies there or something cool.

2 OdpowiedziBungie, the creator of the 3 man warthog, also left out a a weaponized vehicle for the fireteam to wreck aliens with. No drivable tanks either.

It's not just Bungie. Most developers implement invisible walls to keep you from exploring. I have always hated them. If you want a wall make an actual wall. Otherwise, let me be free to explore. Some of the most fun I've had in games comes from halo CE and 2 where there were almost no barriers, and with the correct jumps you could reach amazing places. Most of the time they didn't even give a strategic advantage, they we're just fun to find. Sadly most companies feel the need to block off areas in such an uncreative way, to drive the linear elements forward. It's ok for a game to be linear, but there are ways to do So without making it feel like you are being forced away from possible. exploration

The problem isn't "last gen". Open worlds work fine on last gen, see Skyrim. The reason is that the more "world" you design in a given time, the less time you have to spend on each area. Let's say you have 2 years to work on all the landscape in destiny. Earth, moon, Venus, Mars, tower, all strikes, all PVP maps. If you double the size of each map, then you have literally half as much time to spend on each individual area. So which makes a better game? 10 square miles of well designed and detailed terrain? Or 20 square miles of more generic, repetitive and less detailed terrain? Bungie went for the former, and I think the quality of the maps speaks to the wisdom of that decision. I played Oblivion, and while the world was huge, it was also generic. Generic forests, generic caves - it was all huge and boring to explore. Destiny is the opposite of that. Each location feels unique. Just venturing around Venus gives you tons of unique locales to explore, each with its own character.

Bungie was shooting for the stars... But settled in low earth orbit.
because ceilings :((((
