Yes. Seriously. This may be old news and weird timing since I've been gaming since beta, but in the light of all of the current negativity, I'm compelled to highlight one aspect of the game I think is genius; The RNG reward system.
This is not satire. I'm serious. The fact that one is rewarded randomly had me hooked from day one. I still don't own every cool weapon or piece or gear. That's part of why I'm hooked on this game. Yes, some grinding is necessary, but I'm having fun doing it and getting better as a result.
Imagine getting through a raid like the VoG and beating Atheon/ Templar the first time. You are rewarded a Fatebringer (which I haven't yet) among a few other things, and you're all excited. The next time you defeat him, would you really want another one? Yes, maybe, but not the third time, or 10th time. And knowing what you're going to get is boring also. My point is that once you beat it a few times, you'd lose interest fast, and EVERYONE would have this gun (as an example), thus making a boring, predictable game.
Just something for anyone who complains about RNG to think about. Keep grinding, and have fun doing so. If it's not for you, you'd already know and you should be playing something else.
Well done, Bungie.
Edit 1: I underlined the last sentence for certain people.

12 OdpowiedziYea it's super fun to kill the Templar for the the 59th time and no fatebringer show up Nice job bungie

1 OdpowiedźIt's a good concept; it is. But it needs to be less random is all. Higher frequency of good drops awarded to players who excel in an activity and whatnot

Agree and disagree! I do not believe that it is completely RNG. There have been too many provable instances. We're all just rats in Bungie's grand experiment Why does Bungie force you to go to their website to find out information about the game? Why does Bungie want you to go to their forums and complain, or praise? Why does Bungie claim they listen to you? It's simple! They use their site to help learn more about you! They use psychology to keep you coming back; to both the game and the website. So to the last question, they do listen to you, but nowhere do they say they are going to answer what you ask in the forums, nor indicate what they may (or may not) do about what is being said. Now you may want to scoff, but there is plenty out there on the Internet to prove what I am saying. Go ahead and google or yahoo 'John Hopson Bungie Behavior design' and you will find out more than enough to show that you are nothing but a guinea pig (make that a chimp or a pigeon) to get them to build a game to keep you hooked and buying more. Their marketing scheme is almost diabolical; unfortunately it is working. They have designed this game to make you think you are making your own decisions about grinding, but all this extra hard work for minimal returns is just part of the scheme; you can find out this stuff out for yourself; while you may thnk that you are making decisions it is only the decisions that they are steering you toward. You’ve have actually fallen prey to Bungie’s and Activisions grand design to milk everything they can from each and every player. John Hopson, head of User Research at Bungie, tells other game developers the tricks and strategies that Bungie/Activision has incorporated into their game to keep us coming back. See: http://www.gdcvault.com/play/1016539/Behavioral-Game They very closely watch what all players are doing. They want to know if you will wait for something (in a particular area) and how long, or how often you will go there to find whatever was put there (say an engram, or a pike.) They fix the interval that rewards are given to you, it is not completely random as everyone believes. If you think otherwise, find where they officially tell you that "such-n-such" is random. For instance, most everyone says that Xur was random: See: https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/2zomsb/misc_next_week_strike_change_xur_systemspoilers/ http://www.geek.com/games/bungie-is-at-war-with-a-datamining-gamer-that-can-predict-the-future-of-destiny-1618212/ But as we saw (if you watched John Hopson's speech above) they discuss the pro's and con's of fixing the intervals for things in a game. So just like the site that was made for "Public Events" where the site let you know where a public event was going to occur. This was due, to the set intervals for an event to happen that this site grew in popularity. It was shortly after, that Bungie changed the timing of the occurrences. Just like Japanese-speaking Redditor Megamanexe4 who was able to forecast what Xur was going to have available, or what Strikes and Engrams were going to appear. They (Bungie) didn't like this happening because it would take players away from what Bungie wanted the players to do, so they changed it so that they were not predictable. So if they were as random as claimed, then things couldn't be changed. Even now, you may want to argue that it is now random, I say you are wrong. They do control every aspect of the game; they control what you can or can't get by tracking you and learning your patterns and trying to manipulate you into doing what they want you to do!

It's a carrot and stick method of an RNG system. Only most people get the stick..right up the ass.

9 OdpowiedziRNG just works at the addicting portions of the brain. It's a terrible system they have set. Especially since it isn't true RNG since Xur comes every weekend. Xur is suppose suppose to be on a random table. Yet we have had too many repeat item sales from xur while items like the gjalljorn has only been sold ONCE. Week 2. I have all the exotics and have no reason to be sour about this. But if you want to make an RNG based game, don't have xur sitting around selling the same items... Apparently no weapon this past weekend. I don't see him much at all anymore but don't praise bungie for this.

Rng can be fun if you are rewarded from time to time. I consider myself lucky to own everything i want and need... But some people have an ammount of bad luck, i can understand them to hate rng

2 OdpowiedziThe RNG is fine, the lack of activities, or the variety within them is the problem. At least that is the case for me, and the drop rate is meh.

1 OdpowiedźI never really thought of the RNG system like that but now that you mention it, knowing what your going to get would be boring thanks for this post and I agree with you about the negativity.
