...and has shown me how boring and monotonous it really is. You might think "Nah m8, Destiny is amazing wot you on fgt?" and to that I say break it down. Break down Destiny to what it really is. You fight the same enemies that look slightly different. Do the fallen on Earth act differently compared to the ones on the moon? No! They are different colours and exactly the same.
"But they have new enemies called the taken in the new expansion". No they don't! Their use of the "story" behind the taken is just a pathetic excuse to reuse the assets they already have in the game.
"But BungieVision gives a new areas to explore with new DLCs". Right. Okay keep telling yourself that lie. Everything they bring out as "story" is played on the same path you have played a hundred times over. But woah! It's backwards! HOW ORIGINAL! If they actually put thought into new areas and "story telling" it might, might, be worthy of $5. But $20 each?? Pffft no. Terrible value.
"But it has raids and strikes and new multiplayer maps as well as new weapons". Okay granted that raids are good, even though they are laggy and glitchy. But onto strikes, oh boy. Let's fight some enemies we've already fought a million times to get to a boss that is a bigger enemy we've fought already on the way there! Instead of an actual original design of a boss, Bungie thought "We need an enemy that would put players to the test. I know, why don't we make a boss that looks the same as the enemies we've already made and give it an unnecessarily large amount of health. That'll test their skills". Right. The enemies surrounding the boss are more threatening than the boss itself. Why not put raid-like mechanics for the fight? Oh that's right, that takes work and Bungie runs at the sight of work.
Now onto weapons. The only original ideas of weapons are exotics. All Legendaries are re skinned weapons that have been around since day 1. The only unique weapons are shitty rare weapons that are useless because of their attack. With the addition of Ascension, why even use other Legendaries? Need a PvE primary? Oh I can ascend my Fatebringer, I don't need anything else. Boom! Just from ascending, Legendaries have become useless when you have the best ones. Instead of leaving it behind, you just bring it with you.
It honestly amazing how people forgot what happens at E3 2014 for destiny. Go back and watch it and you'll see how hard we have been butt banged by BungieVision. Taken King gameplay can be seen in it!! What the actual -Blam!-!
Granted PvP is pretty good despite being the most unreliable multiplayer mode I have ever played.
The reason people are "in love with this game" is because you are addicted. Destiny is a giant casino. You can gamble your chances at the gunsmith. What about random drop in crucible? Yep, gambling. Anything that uses the Random-Number-Generator (RNG) is gambling. You are an addict. I know because I played. I have been in a place where you most likely have been where you're just sitting in tower not sure what to do but not wanting to get off. I have been there.
Ask yourself this: when the people used the loot cave at the beginning of the game, that meant that Destiny was worse than or equal to shooting enemies in a hole in the wall, right?
Here's an interview between Luke Smith and EuroGamer who are asking questions that Luke Smith doesn't find particularly appealing:
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-06-22-destiny-the-taken-king-director-defends-40-expansion-price-tag
DaCannonnn just made a very good point:
Even atheon and crota are giant versions of a Minotaur and a knight. One of the things that's the most disappointing to me, is not a single boss says anything to you. None of them inspire any reason to kill them other than "well it's what the loading screen said to do". Not even crota or atheon say a single word. In all actuality, not a single enemy ever talks/threatens you. Smh.
His words couldn't be more true
Hedges360 makes an excellent statement:
]I think I'm inclined to agree. Would be interesting to know how many people mistake addiction for "fun" (unconsciously or just refuse to admit it). The ONLY way people can still be playing after 2000+ hours is addiction. The game has little left to offer at that point. I think I'm waking up to that point, but it doesn't change much. Tonight I tried to play two other games but all I wanted to do was play destiny. So I ended up running the daily mission that I have already done multiple times. I do think the only way I could stop playing destiny would be to destroy the disc.
But, although it's a gamble, it's a no lose gamble. So part of me thinks what's the harm?
MufasaLG had this to say
Spot on. You might enjoy this read about bungies addiction model for Destiny.
I have been doing some serious digging, and have stumbled upon a article(http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/3085/behavioral_game_design.php) written in 2001 by Bungie's current head of User Research. John Hopson(Head of User Research) holds a Ph.D. in Behavioral and Brain Sciences from Duke University and is currently the chairman of the IGDA Games User Research SIG. Before he was hired by Bungie in 2002, John wrote an article explaining formulas to get gamers addicted to games, which many were based on lab mice experiments. Once you read the article you can see tons of these examples for each of his formulas to get people hooked on a game. I would post each theory in its entirety on here but I feel like that violates the guidelines because its pretty much the whole article. If I can post it that way then let me know, but for now I will post each theory title in the article and summarize it for the lazy and relate it to the destiny formula.
CONTINGENCIES AND SCHEDULES To keep lab rats interested in food and extend the supply of food on hand they limit giving food to the rat to certain circumstances, instead of every time he does what he's supposed to do to get food. You can see this being used in Destiny's reward and loot system. It also mentions giving random power ups which can be related to PvP Heavy Weapon Ammo drops, and how your guaranteed one super in an match without doing good

An interesting read if I may say so myself
NerdDotCom says
What killed Destiny for me is Bungies lack of bonuses to the veteran players. If anything Day oners should get the weapons/class items. We were there when the cryptard gave greens for purples. We were there for the loot issues. We were there through the glitchy raids, the 5 slot bounties, and the meager vault space increase. The failed commendations, the unbalanced (still) weapons, the useless gunsmith. Tell me why people joining a year after the fact get more content and bonuses for $75 when we've dropped more than $100 in some cases.
We get no HoW raid. Only one new grenade per subclass, no new jumps.
PlayStation gets ANOTHER year of exclusives.
As for its MMO "elements" all it has are an MMO's grind. Mark caps, rep grinds, raid loot only once a week. Outside of the grind it contains nothing MMO like.
With the blockbuster game list coming soon, fvck destiny. There is and will continue to be better games.... Titanfall has more content than this...
So, unless something changes in how they view veteran players. I will continue to not play destiny. I'll keep on the forums to see if they change before TTK, but I'll nothold my breath. Incoherent rant over
Post below if you think you can prove me wrong. If you can I'll add you comment in an Edit and add it to why Destiny is good. Good luck with that
EDIT 1: Congratulations ghost_avalon! You are the first to give me a legitimate praise for a concept in the game. This user said that the shooting mechanics and setting (scenery?) are fantastic. And I agree, especially with the SkyBox.
TL;DR
Destiny isn't as good as you think it is because of the points above
So you dont like Destiny. Nobody cares...
-
I like a game with a good story, but I also enjoy games where I just shoot at shit for no apparent reason. I don't play because I want the gear (I do want it but that's not my primary reason for playing) I play because I enjoy the gameplay. Sometimes I get tired of it, take a break for a while so I don't drive myself to completely hating it
-
2 OdpowiedziMan, every point you made is flawed. It's hard to believe you actually think your points are accurate.

11 OdpowiedziHow is atheon a big Minotaur?!? Someone has not been lookin closely. ALSO I'm pretty sure our guardians have never explored a ring of Saturn mercury or Phobos! All of those are coming in TTK
-
Also no, I play the game to have fun with my friends, and when we have nothing to do (which is rare for us) we make up crucible challenges. I've also only re rolled like two different weapons about 4 times.
-
4 OdpowiedziTotally agree, but i see alot of weeping desticles trying and failing to refute it.

PREACH IT MY BOY/GIRL

2 OdpowiedziI love how people are judging TTK already when we have only seen gameplay of the new multiplayer modes and nothing else. You do realize that the expansion is not coming out for another two months.

4 OdpowiedziBUMP!! This dude right here has hit the nail right on teh noggin! Destiny, whilst yes looking stunning and playing smooth as can be, is a husk of a game. It is essentially a poker machine with a glossy new cover and a different way to pull the lever. In a previous post of mine someone commented that Bungie had contacted them asking if they wanted to partake in a study here's a C&P "The Bungie User Research program has been a big success ever since we started conducting bold experiments on gamers like you. We've learned a lot about great games and the brains that love playing them. But we must have more test subjects! We need Destiny players of all levels and play styles to go to playtest.bungie.net and sign up to be part of our research program. From the newest Kinderguardian to the most grizzled Raider, we need everyone's feedback to make Destiny better. A few lucky Guardians will even enter our studio to participate in top secret missions!"

All I hear is opinion ;) I enjoy the game because i can have fun with my friends. That's all I need

8 OdpowiedziEdytowany przez użytkownika Admiral Moobs: 6/18/2015 7:41:02 AMI once bought some marmite. What can I say? I like it. My son tried it but didn't enjoy it. He said "I don't like it", put it aside and nothing else was ever said about it. I can happily continue to enjoy marmite, even in my son's presence, without any sort of problem. My son is 10 and has the maturity to simply not partake of something he doesn't like. He doesn't feel the need to foist his opinion on all and sundry. He doesn't feel the need to write an essay moaning about why he doesn't like marmite. I'm sure there's a lesson to be learned from that.

Actually, destiny is as good as the fun that I see myself experiencing when playing it. Amazing that you felt so strongly about this that you felt the need to write a dissertation.

Edytowany przez użytkownika Wolf_Odinson: 6/18/2015 4:32:00 PMMaybe the bosses don't say anything because of the utter contempt/disdain they feel for your character. What pithy commentary would you expect anyway? Perhaps a lively discussion on the socio-economic and geopolitical ramifications of attempting to unite the remnants of Earth and the Reef dwellers into a cohesive society whose combined military assets could defeat the darkness and its minions... except for that whole pesky "who will rule them all" debate? Or maybe the canned, but tried and true, "You can't defeat me, for I am the great XYZ!" ?

1 OdpowiedźAnother post with "i know about the DLC without having played a single minute of it" written ALL over......

1 OdpowiedźHit the nail on the head, they've just perfected the addicting side of it to get people to keep coming back.

1 OdpowiedźGuess I'm an addict :'( you aren't wrong

1 OdpowiedźOh, look another moron. This one doesn't understand what nuance is. There are subtle yet distinct behavioral differences between the various groups/ factions within the different species. If you can't see that, it's your problem.

Edytowany przez użytkownika Cordell Killin: 6/18/2015 8:58:19 AMNot to mention the game itself still has flaws they have yet to fix like getting kicked to orbit during a game and the fact they changed the game from its original version all just shows how bad it really is

I agree with every word and gave recently stopped playing and wont be buying the dlc.

6 OdpowiedziEdytowany przez użytkownika UmbraWulf: 6/18/2015 6:57:43 AMBurden of proof is on the accuser. Apart from that I can sit here and name you about 30 mmos that do the exact same thing, I can even point you to ones that for PvP to be worth while you have to pay real money. If you don't like the game don't play it. It is that simple. Do you want an award for coming onto the forums and saying "I think this game is crap" we are well aware of this games flaws, we are well aware of how idiotic we seem, but here is the thing. Personally I have been playing this game since release, so almost a year. No other game in my life have I played consistently and constantly as much so they must be doing something right. Now get over yourself and move on. Or shut up skrub.

5 OdpowiedziIt's not about proving you wrong, it's about what I like. I don't give a shit if you like Destiny. I don't give a shit why you do or don't like Destiny. Nothing you say regarding Destiny is going to change my mind about how I feel about Destiny. It takes a certain kind of arrogant stupidity to write a diatribe about a video game and challenge your readers to prove you wrong. Nobody -blam!-ing cares about your opinion. We have our own opinion, and most of us are just as arrogant and ego driven as you are. We think we're right, and if that means you're wrong, well -blam!- you and what else is new. So, there's that.
-
13 OdpowiedziBreak down Halo, then. Halo is a shooter, with a very small weapon sandbox, linear campaign levels, and a multiplayer that never changes. Nice story, but nothing to write home about, and most of it is tucked away in external source material (novels, comics etc.). How could you find enjoyment out of playing something so monotonous? . . . . I love Halo, but I hope this argument makes you see how stupid you sound.
-
These posts are more of a grind than Destiny will ever be.
-
2 OdpowiedziNail on head. I bought HOW thinking it was gonna be new content. I didn't think that running maps backwards was new content. I guess if i enter my house through the side door, that must mean im entering a new house. Sweet! You compare the new guns to old and you see no diff in stats , just re skinned. Oh well,.. Fa4 is soon out. May not be a fps , but at least its got a coherent story from beginning end.
-
Who freaking cares!!! You either love playing Destiny or you don't! You can still play Destiny or you can stop! The choice is yours. No ine cares about what you have to say about the game cause we all know how "we" feel about the game.
