Over 80% of first place finishers use hand cannons.
I kept track of what primary weapon the first place finisher on the wining and losing team used in PvP. And over 80% used hand cannons. Out of those hand cannons nearly 90% were either TLW or Thorn. The vex and red death came in a distant 3rd and 4th. First place players hardly ever used auto rifles or scout rifles.
Bungie has stated in the past they want to see PvP players using all the different weapon types and not see one particular weapon or weapon type being used more than another. Basically saying they want to see balanced weapons in the crucible. But when nearly all of first place finishers are only using 3 or four 4 weapons and the top 2 weapons are hand cannons then you know there's a major problem.
I think Bungie has taken the right steps so far by nerfing auto rifles and fusion rifles and buffing pulse rifles and scout rifles. Now it's time to take a serious look at hand cannons.
I know i didn't take into account grenade kills, heavy weapon kills, or special weapon kills, but i still think it's strong enough evidence that hand cannons, particularly TLW and Thron, are horribly overpowered.
Edit: I kept track of 200 matches. After each match you have 30 seconds to view the leaderboards before you are brought to the matchmaking lobby. I simply inspected the first place finishers on both the winning and losing team. About 50 or so people left matchmaking before i could inspect them. So i recorded about 350 first place finishers and their primary weapon.
Edit 2: I should make clear that the problem is with TLW and Thorn and not hand cannons in general. If there is going to be a nerf then it should only apply to TLW and Thorn.

It is comfirmed: 100% of people want an auto rifle buff in PVE. Pvp it's about 95%.

1 OdpowiedźYeah I loved hand cannons but ever since people stopped using auto rifles, I don't feel like oh I'm that one guy using a hand cannon ! So I switched to auto rifles now lol Although my kd is starting to suffer but it's fun dying many times and finally winning a 1v1

The problem with your statistics is you have no idea what the person used to do the killing with. It could have been any one of their current weapons, grenades, supers, or melee.

2 OdpowiedziI'm constantly experimenting with scouts. I love the Fang, and MIDA. One/one is a lot of fun and does well. I've also got a common and uncommon I just love. Recently picked up Luna. I got hot swap and zen moment on it, as well as a middle perk that increases stability at the cost of reload.

I'd love to see your excel spreadsheet of all of the weapons people used and how well they did with them. It would be interesting to see those statistics.

That sounds pretty accurate, that's how I usually am when I use Hawkmoon or Last Word, on top or close to it.

2 OdpowiedziI use Hawkmoon 90% of the time no other exotic can Compete with My Godly Hawkmoon. Unless there's an entire team full of annoying thorns then I'll pull my Annoying thorn out and give revenge.

What sucks is people keep using examples like "well my friend uses a scout rifle and he does great" or "my friends and I never use a hand cannon and we kick ass" and congrats to those people but stuff like that doesn't mean it's the same way for everyone all the time. Something like this, a bona fide study, means something. I'm more in favor of buffing overall weapon classes up to even them out and slightly nerfing the most powerful outliers instead of nerfing everything to even it out. But it's tough to buff/nerf something perfectly, so we'll see.

Hand cannons and shotguns aren't the problem. The maps are way too small with tight corridors. On larger more open maps scouts and pulses do just fine against hand cannons and shottys. Hell,the suros still does decent on larger maps. We just just don't have enough larger more open maps.

Agreed. Using either thorn or TLW makes crucible soooooo much easier. Makes using any other gun very difficult.
