The PvP changes feel like an oversight.

Destiny's Charm Yet again we are in a situation where Bungie makes a mistake they already made before. I'm pretty sure anyone who played d1 in the months leading up to vanilla d2 is getting a massive case of deja vu. Just like in d1 bungie entirely guts special ammo in the name of "balance" which ends up doing the opposite. Let me preface this by saying I think special ammo was getting a bit out of control in d2 but this was not the right solution. Just like in d1, by aggressively gutting things such as mobility, special, and abilities, you turn this game into a run-of-the-mill shooter and make it lose what made it unique. If I wanted to play a game with no ability-based combat and pure primary fights I would play another shooter. the power fantasy of this game is not only in PvE but also in PvP. Moments like having two supers fight for the fate of the game just don't exist anymore making the game lose some of its charm in my opinion. Super/Ability Regen Now even ignoring my incredibly subjective take on the charm of destiny there is one thing that has become very apparent from playing trials, and that is the fact that this change fundamentally fails to address the special problem and instead makes it worse. The main thing keeping special ammo in line was special ammo. if someone was sniping you peek with your sniper, if they were rushing you with a shotgun have your shotgun ready or precharge your fusion so on and so forth. By gutting special and super regen for that matter you make the disparity between players even worse. If someone manages to get a super they can essentially run around uncontested which makes the issue of supers being an instant round win. Before you had to do some level of thinking because if you had your super chances are someone else had it, so you could either use your super to bait theirs out to get it out of the way or use yours to go on the offensive. other supers were also the best counters to well and bubble since practically everyone uses super in the game is just an instant kill for whoever is in the well/bubble. from the matches I played it is usually just one person who gets a super the entire match which leaves them completely uncontested by the end of the match because most of the tools we previously used to counter their super (i.e. special, abilities or supers) have been gutted. Special Now on the my last complaint, special. the gutting of special has essentially led to a monopoly of special ammo in PvP. If Special was gutted to deal with how oppressive it was compared to primary then this was not the move because it makes the disparity even larger. Now in trials, if one team is popping off, it is way harder to stage a comeback because they now have a monopoly of special ammo, which can make it sometimes impossible to counter them since they inherently have an advantage. if the other team has snipers your only choice is to counter them with primary instead of using a sniper yourself and putting yourself in a high-risk high-reward scenario. Now it's always high risk low reward because you now have to go above and beyond to kill someone with special needs while their job is infinitely easier because they have special ammo. And because this leads to more kills from them it just spirals until one team stomps the other with special. This also leads to situations where the person who does get super also most likely has special. How in any situation are you supposed to kill a titan in a bubble with special meanwhile you have no special and no super? I'm not saying to let special reign free like previously but minimise It in a way that doesn't give an unfair advantage to one of the teams half of the time. Final Thoughts That's all for my lengthy TED talk. thank you if you read it all the way through and I apologize for any possible grammatical errors I may have had. please keep in mind that this is purely my subjective opinion and please keep the criticism constructive. Hopefully, seeing other people's opinions will help me warm up to this change because as it stands now, I am having even less fun in PvP than before. the previous system was by no means perfect but "If everyone is special no one is." special being as readily accessible as it was before served as its own balance because it gave everyone the same opportunity to counter said special, it came down to who could make better use of their special weapon. TL;DR (new PvP changes give an unfair advantage to people who secure special and super especially in comp and trials)
