Serious PvE question...console vs PC

I realize this is probably opening a can of worms I'm not prepared for, but...has anyone played on both PC and console this season? If so, what is your experience like? I only have my own console experience and the footage of PC players I've watched to go on, but it kinda seems like console players are at a permanent handicap. Like, I know there have been framerate/damage issues in the past, but wasn't this supposed to have been fixed? I'm watching PC gamers kill enemies in 3 shots (or fewer) with only 1 surge mod that are taking me entire magazines with 2 surge mods. I talked with a friend who's played on both, and she says they feel like two different games. She said she was absolutely obliterating PvE enemies on PC and that she could solo dungeon encounters with ease that she couldn't even survive past a damage phase on console. What is going on???

Their is no separate match making for PvE like there is for PvP its all the same pool. As to answer your question, the over all skill curve on PC is much higher on PC then console in general. Im sure lower spec hardware does play some part but the PC community is more invested then the console community. An example of this was when they first introduced the cross play system they made a mistake and console players were matching PC players in PvP. My god did that river of tears over flow the forums from console players and the PC players had a field day ripping children's arms off in PvP.
but it kinda seems like console players are at a permanent handicap
compensated by enemies actively trying to avoid hitting them, them hitting everything though being miles off target, as well as taking less aoe damage on low framerates The extremely poor choice of hardware is getting compensated more than sufficiently.

        • It might be a silly question, but what console did your friend play on? The game is still playable on Xbox One and PS4, and that is a different world entirely. PC still retains some advantages over Series X and PS5, but the gap in the performance should be pretty minimal for the typical player. I'm not aware of any current damage issues tied to framerate. Also, for reference, did you make sure that you two were comparing the exact same stuff - same weapon, activity, modifiers etc?

          • You can react much faster on PC. It takes a minute to turn on console or look up, unless you mess with the sensitivity and ruin normal play. Much easier to hit your shots, you can bind the keys and stuff like that. You've got so many options.

            • This might just be me, but I was pretty good in D1 on both Xbox one and PS4. When vanilla D2 released, I was playing on both PC and Xbox. My skills felt mediocre with gameplay feeling better on PC with frame rate and movement. After cross save was enabled I almost exclusively play on PC unless I’m trying to complete very simple tasks and I’m on the couch playing PS5. I’m not sure if I’d be same skill level as I am (not great, but above average) if I’d stayed console only. TL:DR - For me, PC feels smoother than console for movement and frame rate. Swapping between the two is detrimental, unless you swap and stay.

            • It can't be fixed without parity thresholds i.e. frame caps/normalization So yeah, Hz.... gives a DPS advantage... in a few rare cases a disadvantage. It seems to benefit, DoT and max threshold single instance... things like Golden Gun, BoW are seemingly more potent. Anyone over 100 seems to be the threshold. They also have latency input advantages, and a lot of people use simple scripts and macros for swaps and reload animation cancelling... some of these things can be done on console too, but it's more common on PC. I've asked for technical parity in the past, but I think realistically that's 1 gen away. Right now, the PvE threshold would need to be 60 but I don't think Bungie is going to do that. Once console tech can do 1440 100 reliably... but that's probably at least 5 yrs off.

I have to RMA my motherboard so went back on Xbox. It’s like going from a Ferrari to a pinto. Most of the time I can’t even give commendations because the screen never comes up before people leave.

                • There was something about damage registration being tied to frame rate, so the higher the frame rate the better/faster the registration. But what I saw was a negative because our Guardians actually took damage faster the higher the frame rate. But it could quite easily work the other way too because remember when Titan skating was a thing in D2? That was linked to frame rate too. So if input registration for something like jump is tied to frame rate then why not weapons too.

                • Biggest difference is input devices now that new-gen came out. If you play controller on PC, it’s gonna feel like PS5 or XSX.

                • damage done to pve is the same, damage taken inside pve is based on fps so pc players take more damage, but i will say pve is more easy on mnk while pvp is super easy on controller

                • My friend plays all games locked at 60 fps since he always has 2 games up here on pc. We have the same ttk with frame difference, heck he even out damages me. I play at 120 fps. Those are just my 2 cents have a happy new year y all

                • Started D2 on Console for a good year in 2017, switched to PC shortly after. No real difference imo other than going from 30fps to 144fps made my eyes not want to bleed anymore.

Piqued my interest with this subject, I'd like to come back and read if anyone puts in a detailed explanation of the matter. Edit: I'm interested because I'd like to buy a RoG Ally (W/Upgraded specs via a YouTuber who does it). Only to play D2 PvE with more than 60FPS.

On console it feels easier to shoot things from afar and honestly using snipers feels a bit easier (Same in pvp) but on keyboard it's so much easier to clear out rooms of enemies and it feels less clunky when I get up close to enemies (Again same in pvp). A skilled player of either console or pc could easily beat a dungeon solo but here's the thing both controller and keyboard play differently and in the end playing the other will take a lot of time to get used to. I was pretty good with controller but it took like a year to get good with keyboard after I started using pc.
