Without PVP, all you have is strike scoring....and it would get really dull, really fast.

  • You're all about options and freedom, until it's something that you, personally, would find "dull". What is so wrong with having the [b][i]option[/i][/b] for Gambit without invasions? Let it rise or fall on it's own merit. [spoiler]Yes, I understand the "it would take away manpower from other things" arguement. No need to go there.[/spoiler]

    A freedoms have limits. ...and the limit here...is that you have a COMPETITIVE game mode. And a competition where one side has no ability to affect what the other side is doing will become dull and boring. IOW, how interesting would it be to watch basketball or soccer.....but you wern't allowed to play any sort of DEFENSE.?? You might as well be playing Menagerie or the Blind Well for a score. PVP in Gambit is broken. But the solution is to FIX it....not remove it.

It just wouldn't have a direct PvP nature. [quote]PVP in Gambit is broken. But the solution is to FIX it....not remove it.[/quote] Personally, I don't think PvP in Gambit is broken, but that is based on the last time I played it earlier this year. I just recently came back and haven't jumped back into Gabit yet. And TC wasn't calling for the removal of PvP completely, just an added [b][i]option[/i][/b] to play without it.

    1. To most people. Which is why most people ignore "leaderboards" in video games. Or lose interest in them quickly. 2. No its not a ridiculous flex...and if you have the gaming experience that you claim....then you should know that games that allow for direct competition are FAR more popular than those where there are layers of interference between that direct interaction. (Its why every game under the sun is trying to add some sort of PVP if they can). What you need to realize is that YOU as an older gamer, grew up with gaming being a more solitary pursuit. So competing with other gamers may not appeal to you...but that is not true of the bulk of gamers who are 30-and-under. For them gaming is a more online, and a more social experience. Hence the appeal of PVP...and in many cases the expectation of it. 3. Its been attempted in many other games. The result is that the player base loses interest in it pretty quickly. 4. Gambit without PVP is like watching/playing a sport where you can't play defense. So the game because a very uninteresting exercise in build-strength....and finding various cheeses/exploits. 5. It IS broken....and this is coming from someone who plays it regularly and has earned the "Dredgen" title playing as a solo player. 6. Gambit without PVP ISN'T Gambit. The identity of the game is the stress of having to balance the PVE and PVP needs of the game....and testing the adaptability of the player in being able to prioritize and transition between those two aspects of the game. ...and most of the frustration with the game comes from players who either struggle to do that.....or don't enjoy being tested in that fashion.
