There are three classes. If vanguard was one, its been cut.
But Bungie literature indicates that the Vanguard might be an information gathering or preliminary scouting organization.
If you go to their info on the Cabal, it says, "Awaiting more reports from the Vanguard."

I Doubt that, unless you are able to change emblems like in the Halo games. Bungie has given us limited information on the classes and races. For all we know it's possible. You sir, will have to wait. I believe now that it is an organization, but the evidence does point to another class and there could be more.

Nitron is right. Bungie wouldn't give us a definitive answer and then lie. Hell, they mentioned tigerman, why not mention the vanguard?
