Destiny NEEDS an "M" rating

I know that often times, developers and gamers alike don't really care what the rating on a game is, but from what I've heard (all speculation of course), is that Bungie is aiming for a "T" rating for Destiny. If this is the case, which I hope it isn't, it will be a huge mistake. The story for what Destiny is claiming to be, cannot be done justice if Bungie doesn't allow for the grit, violence, language, etc that would come with that setting, it can't be believable. If the world is almost completely wiped out, and the human race is having to fight several other species in a last ditch effort to survive, you better bet that there will be "F bombs" dropped, there will be people being shot (meaning decent amounts of blood), etc. Bungie, please, don't let yourselves be held back by a rating in order to get more sales. Make this game an "M" rated game. Anything less would be simply uncompelling and unbelievable, and would really detract from the story and mood that would be present should this situation in this game ever really happen.

  • As if a lower rating is going to gain the game any more sales. I've never heard of these T-rated suspicions before now, but I severely hope they are wrong. Science fiction is all about existentialism and fear and other deep emotions, I don't want to see "space zombies" that don't scare the shit out of me.

For real? I want the space zombies and others things to be scary though. I know they want to basically replace Star Wars with this but a T rating screams little kid. I want times when the game is slightly scary (like Flood levels in Halo).

  • I'm in favour of Destiny being accessible to more people, so more people can share Bungie's brilliant creation. I don't care for games that are overly edgy and gory just for the sake of it, they seem to cater to male teens who are overly eager to prove that they are "manly" and gore doesn't put them off. I'd rather play a game which focused on making the atmosphere immersive.

Honestly - and I'm trying not to be confrontational - if someone doesn't buy Destiny just because it doesn't have profuse swearing and gore, then I feel like their priorities are in the wrong place anyway, and they'd be better off playing something else. There are plenty of games out there to slake whatever bloodlust or machismo that people feel like they need to get out, but if Bungie wants to make a game T, then they're doing it to make it as accessible as possible. I hardly think they'd do it to make it "kiddy," they're still just going to make it as epic as anything they've done before, if not more so.

  • While I agree with you that completely eliminating curse words from some stories does make it feel silly, Dragon Age: Origins and the word "sodding" as an example, I don't think that Destiny is that type of game. If it was that the Last City was under constant bombardment and people were dying everywhere then I would agree that it should be more "mature" for lack of a better way of phrasing it. But that isn't this game. Even from what little we've seen int he vidoc Destiny is just an adventure, and one filled with hope. If you want to take a game and make it more serious and darker then yes add all the curse words and "grit" you like. But that will not be this game.

  • People don't want to play games rated T (unless you a little kid or something, obviously), as the devs would lose a core fanbase and it's money by making it too juvenile. But it doesn't really matter, I guess.

  • Halo might as well have been rated T after the first game, but that's beside the point. It doesn't have to have swearing and limbs being blown off to tell a good story.

  • Knowing Bungie, they aren't going to allow their vision for the game to be held back by anything. If they are going for a teen rated game, that would be because they are going for a teen rated game.
