Characters gone
I used to play Destiny 2 in 2016 on a PS4. Today I connected my old account to my Xbox account to play on my Series S. But all of my characters and gear are gone. Where are they? How do I access them?

Destiny 2 didn't exist in 2016, it was released in 2017. Are you sure it was Destiny 2 you played and not Destiny 1? -
Your linked psn account (eysahhere) has no d2 gameplay. Was it under a different account?
