Doesn’t becoming a cloudstrider shorten their lives? Osiris is already an old man. He doesn’t need to go that route. He can learn Stasis and Strand.

  • It does. In fact that was a consideration of mine. If he has less time he might not have anything to lose. On the other hand it does also work as a counter point... Do we know he can learn either of those? Wouldn't he have done so already (with Stasis at least)? I thought what we understood is that only paracausal entities are capable of wielding them.

  • My reasoning is that if it strains a young body to die earlier, an older one wouldn’t handle it. Could be more complex, less of a stress issue and more of a cellular one. Nanotech replication affecting the organic cell reproduction could spur on advanced aging. But at his age? It’d only make sense as a final stand. We learned it when we weren’t paracausal. If you remember the cutscene in BL, our Ghost was frozen. That severs our connection to the Light, leaving us normal. That’s how they catch renegade Guardians, Ghost disabling. Rhulk wasn’t paracausal prior to gaining power, far as I can tell about his backstory. Same reason we didn’t learn Stasis until we tried. He hasn’t. While it’s practical to you and me, in the game there is a growing schism about using Darkness power. And he’s got some pride issues to boot. Wasn’t there also an issue with his va? It could be possible but they don’t go for it for some reason outside of it being possible or not. Trying to cram in an ending on a timetable means some threads don’t get finished.

  • All very viable points! I appreciate you making them! I considered Osiris being way more than a normal person so if anyone could handle it, especially with his stubbornness it would be him. You mentioned as a final stand, it makes sense that story-wise we are approaching that point. Lubrae was supposedly lifted up by the Traveler, it might be that anyone touched by Light has some degree of paracausality to them? But the Witness definitely caused that when he healed him in the abyss. Are you talking about Osiris' VA? I never heard of a problem? Do tell if you remember that news... But yeah I generally agree with you, there's nothing to confirm one way or the other just yet. Just trying to think of possibilities :) I absolutely know there will be threads and storylines unfinished.

  • Yeah if anyone could it would be him. Earth was uplifted, so was the Fallen homeworld. It doesn’t make anyone paracausal. A species like the Awoken is what a paracausal human would look like. I have the impression that the Gardner knew the risks of making it readily available, hence the need for a Ghost or to take it from it directly. The Winnower wants to raze the cosmos because it’s flawed, it wouldn’t be concerned about people abusing its power. That’s what it wants. So it should make it’s power more readily available for those willing to take it. But it’s such a nuanced detail that they may never cover it. What a shame. The world building potential is phenomenal.
