Knightlight and Eramis Short: The Wound of Twilight Gap

The Wound of Twilight Gap Knightlight and Eramis are in the cave. A campfire is lit, causing their shadows to be cast. Knightlight is fixing up a "Sleeper Simulant" linear fusion rifle. Eramis is staring into the fire, reminiscing of the past. She sigh's and Knightlight looks up at her. Knightlight ask if everything's okay. Eramis looks at him and simply states "yes". She looks back down into the fire. Aprico, Knightlight's Ghost comes up to Knightlight and they talk in private. "She dosen't look alright." Knightlight thinks to himself and ask what he should do. Aprico suggests to tell a story to possibly get her mind off the topic of concern. Knightlight gets some smores for the campfire and returns to Eramis. Knightlight declares it "story time" and sits down, he hands Eramis a smore. Eramis takes off her mask and eats the smore. She quickly puts it back on to conceal her mouth, it's an insecurity she has. Knightlight takes a bite out of his smore but quickly spits it out, some bark got on it. Eramis chuckles and starts to speak. "I guess I'll go first." She pauses momentarily and whispers "Twilght Gap, or whatever you risen call it." She starts to speak and tell the following story. "In the times ahead of the whirlwind we didn't have much. We were crippled and felt betrayed by the great machine, it brought so much prosperity to our kind then it abruptly left us. We felt so...alone, abandoned. But we had one Kell, Chelchis. He was the Kell of Stone, we would all look up to him for guidance and inspiration, looking every inch the kell he was. A great warrior and a good comrade. When the hive came we witnessed the terror that was Oryx, he had an army of knights by his side. One of the most powerful beings I've witnessed, we didn't stand much of a chance against him, not as we were anyways. But it was Chelchis that would rise to the challenge and face down that vile king. He was a great warrior but that couldn't save him at the end. He cried out to the machine before he was killed. But in his death we had the opportunity to escape and seek out the machine, to right the many wrongs commited. In his name we swore to destroy all those stood in the way of what was rightfully ours. We found ourselves in a strange new system. Sol your people call it. Humantiy was blessed by the machine, we were in shock and felt betrayed. All of our kind died only to be spat on. We were able to find the location of the Great Machine but humanity wasn't willing to give it back, but we weren't asking nicely. Some of our warriors were mad and conflict started, the regular humans weren't good fighters. Peace of their "golden age" made them rusty and they acted cowardly. In their defense some of our kind were cruel and committed terrible crimes, some to terrible to recite. No honor was to be had. Looking back I feel guilty about it, not about the killings, but the fact I felt relief everytime it happened, one less potential being to stop us. Humanity had warriors of their own. Risen they called them. Gave them the ability to cheat death. We felt insulted, it granted them powers we were never given. What did it see in these scum that we didn't have? These risen had various powers, all provided by a little drone called ghost. Many of us died when we fought these risen. We figured out that if we could kill the drone that their powers went away. When that happened, they acted like cowards they're species were. But it was not enough. Everytime we attacked the city we were repelled. We needed a new plan, a big one. Craask, Kell of House Kings had a plan. He was a mysterious figure, kept to the shadows always plotting. That was the strength of the kings. He hatched a plan to unite all the houses and take the city and to get back what was rightfully ours. As a result of his talks we had Virixas the Wolf Kell, Solkis of House Devils, and Draksis, The Kell of House Winter. As a result we've assembled the largest army our people ever made. They had a army that used vile magic but we had justice and determination on our side, we drank all the ether we could. Unfortunately Skolas and his forces never shown, but we fought anyways. Looking back it was our biggest mistake. Most of the fighting actually took place in the hills and mountains surrounding the city. We would sometimes take a hill but then lose it. It's stated that attacking uphill isn't a good idea but we needed to push forward. Seeing the great machine gave us a sense of hope, every inch we gained was a inch closer to our salvation. It didn't mattered how many died, what mattered was our cause, the vengeance of our people. We fought in the name of Chelchis and those who died in the Whirlwind, to reclaim what was ours, for him. Early on the battle was going well. Fierce and bloody, but we were able to push. Their commander Saladin wanted them to keep retreating back to new positions. I would slay many risen and there pest. I grabbed a bladedancers arm mid slash and used my other to thrust my blade through his chest, when the ghost came out I threw it in the air, a wire rifle vandal would put a shot through it, killing it. But I also remember the loss. Seeing some of my comrades get torn to shreds my the Thunderlord machine gun. But the one that stuck with me the most was the golden gun, not just any regular golden gun but Ana Bray's. She may seem nice now but she was cruel on the battlefield, she had a sadistic smile on her face when fighting, like killing was some sort of game to her. That cursed gun of hers burned through my friend, he was only a vandal but I remember holding him, trying to cover and treat the burn, but it was to late. I remember him reaching out towards the great machine and whispering "I'm home now." Once we made it to the wall things only got harder. But at some point during the battle one of the Captians were able to push Ana Bray off of the wall. Never saw her again during the battle. But they still had plenty of good fighters. We gave it our all and were close to winning. Commander Saladin wanted to retreat even further into the city. But the one they called Shaxx had other ideas. He wanted to push back against us, Saladin wouldn't allow it but shaxx didn't care. He led a large force and weilded a Gernade Launcher called Mountain Top. If he had listened to Lord Saladin then we would've won. We didn't have the numbers to push through the wall. It was becoming more clear this battle wasn't ours to win. The Great Machine was so close, but yet it felt so far. We would've destroyed that city and killed every person if it meant our kind could be blessed again. All that we suffered through and all our efforts died on that wall. The wolves never showed up, stopped by an Awoken Queen. Our victory was so close, I wished Chelchis was around to see it. But in a way his courage and bravery was carried like a torch. Not by eliksni but by "The Guardian and the Ghost". For they had slayed Oryx and given Chelchis the vengeance he deserved. We would end up leaving the area. Humiliated and saddened, our will shattered and our kind laying dead on the battlefield. I would end up being captured and put in an awoken prison, I remember looking at the warden, one of our kind. He had the audacity to be called "The Loyal". But where's the loyalty in putting your own people in fighting pits? All I'll say is he had a hard time looking at us directly, blinded by his shame of treating our people like animals, he couldn't bare the sight of us. Solkis would be killed off by a titan known as Saint 14. Draksis would be killed by, well you know who. But the biggest crime was how Craask was killed, transformed to a dreg and killed off by that undead fanatic Fikrul. The once wise Kell was no more. Now the fate of our people is uncertain. Can Mithrax trust the vanguard or will they kill him once his usefulness passes? I failed once as Kell, I fear I may fail again." Knightlight looks up at Eramis and notices a tear on her slide down her face. Knightlight moves in to comfort her. They then finish off what was left of the smores and go outside, looking at the fallen campsite. No words are uttered, they just look.
