Bungie has no servers. It's all peer to peer. So we are bungies servers.

  • That is old, they phased that out and now have dedicated servers, check for yourself.

  • Actually no. Luke smith confirmed himself that Destiny wont get dedicated servers. Bungie uses a hybrid of a peer to peer. To launch into pvp, gambit, strikes, and raid starts on Bungies side. Once in said activity the connection to d2 is on us the players.

  • Can you say with full certainty that the connection issues since BL dropped are all on the player with no fault being on Bungie? This is a rhetorical question as you're not an employee, but still

  • I can only speak for myself. I havent had any connection issues at all with destiny since BL launched.

  •
Wait, so we do have dedicated servers?

We don't use that term, because in the gaming community, “dedicated servers” refers to pure client-server networking models. Destiny 2 uses a hybrid of client-server and peer-to-peer technology, just like Destiny 1.
That is a clear "No we don't use dedicated servers". They simply dodged the question by talking around it, it's basic marketing stuff. And by the way, Luke Smith said it himself in one of the recent interviews that dedicated server will probably never come.

  • I don't see a link, and they do have servers lmao, have you never gotten an error code about servers not being able to be reached? Or when the game is full?

Bro... That only means can't find or connect to the other peers sharing the instance you are trying to play in. Don't interpret. He's right, they have said multiple times,"no dedicated servers". Do you know why, and why they never will? Because that way they cannot be blamed... It's all on you. I also got a 2 week connection performance restriction today from all competitive matchmaking and looking at my logs it seems it may have been due to gambit.. GAMBIT. Like others posting, I have NEVER had an issue or warning. Connection is excellent, 100+ down -"killer networking" double shot, ethernet+wifi bridged together covering eachother for a seamless connection with no gaps in connectivity. The game sessions that were the cause of this restriction were played during launch when NOBODY COULD STAY CONNECTED long enough to finish a match for days. Now I didn't just hammer crucible or gambit after it was obvious they were having issues with network stability, I'd take a break with some pve or Real Life for a bit. I appealed when I learned I could, maybe 8 days into this restriction by then. Still no answer or lift of my ban at day 13 today. At this point I am already over this in my mind but what worries me is going forward. If I have to skip gambit or dodge competitive crucible (my favorite persuit in D2) because I'm afraid of the next step 2 month restriction, then in my opinion that is unfair and Ill deserved. Where do we even go from here? This is obviously a widespread and legitimate issue in the community yet we haven't even gotten an official glance or answer yet. Doesn't do much for confidence in bungie or the game going forward... Good luck guys, here's to hoping for some kind of resolution going forward. And for contributing purposes: Down speed: 99 Up speed: 19 Ping: 21 Loss: .007%

  • Bro...I think you should look up some information regarding networking and how exactly D2 functions. They don't do P2P anymore. If you want to know more then educate yourself, they've talked alot about their networking, I just wish I could have some words with their engineers... unfortunately, monkeys know how much hair they've pulled trying to get it to stabilize. If you actually do take the time to do genuine research on it, and understand why it is I throw this banana at Bungo. Just to clarify I'm not trying to condescend, or prove a point, I just dislike that Bungie can have a dysfunctional algorithm and load issues but push the blame and CONSEQUENCES (Looking at you Bungie) on the players. I'm sorry you got a restriction especially without a warning, but that just adds to the point. Thanks for being cordial-ish 😅
