Power Median: A New Level System

Right now you gotta hit the minimum power requirement in an activity for you to be viable enough to participate in it. For example, be at least 750 to attempt Menagerie (Menagerie is by far my favorite activity). Anything below that and you will struggle with enemies. Now granted, enemies sort of scale to your level to make the activity still challenging but let you be powerful. Introducing Power Median! This system is simple. Grab an activity minimum level requirement, calculate it against your current power level, and extract a median. Example, Take Menagerie's 750 and my current Power level of 1000 and let the system calculate the power median, which would be 875. This means Menagerie's power level will now be increased to 875. I'm still overpowered but Menagerie is now stronger than the current system. Plus I am only doing this with one player instead of 6. Let's try it on Nightfalls... Normal nightfall (Not Ordeal) is 820 power. I'm going to get the Power Median with just one player which would be me. The Power Median between 820 and 1000 is 910. A good increase but this one actually makes it fall in line with the current level scaling, roughly 25-35 more levels using the Power Median. Hero Nightfall is 970. Same thing here, the power median between 970 and 1000 would be 985. Here we can start seeing a difference. In the Hero Nightfall, the level scaling makes it so I take the full extent of the enemy damage. If I solo the Hero Nightfall, enemies are scaled to my exact power level However, with the Power Median they fall down to 985 so for me as a solo player it becomes slightly easier and make me feel more powerful but still challenged. Now let's do this with full teams with diverse power levels. Let's start with Menagerie. We got 750 minimum. Let's say my team is composed of 770, 794, 826, 887, 954, 1000. The power median here would be 857. Now in this instance the 750 is not being used, only the numbers from my fireteam. But with the 750 added the Median would be 826 so that one is discarded. At 857 Power Median, Menagerie would be challenging to the first 3 teammates, but easy for the last 3. However all teammates are above the minimum requirement. It becomes challenging because the Power Median is taking into account the fact that you have 3 very powerful teammates which should be able to pickup the slack of the weaker teammates. This in turn enables a greater feeling of power and thus adds on to the power fantasy so teammates must rely on the most powerful teammate to get through the activity. With this system, minimum power requirements would not be needed as any player of any level are now able to attempt any activity. HOWEVER, for the sake of having endgame, this is where Hardcore Modes of the activities come into play. Hardcore Menagerie, let's say you need AT LEAST 850 power, but not everyone in the team is at that level except a few who are above. Let's get a power median going. Let's say my team is composed of 770, 776, 784, 822, 854, 1000. The Power Median would be 803. Same scenario happens. Half of the team will struggle while the other half will power through it just fine. But now let's add in a twist, the Goal of the Power Median is to enable Power Fantasy. Let's grab the Team Median (803) and Match it against the activities Power (850). The Power Median is now 827. Now 2 teammates will have no problem, but 4 will struggle. 827 is a good Power Median for hardcore considering there is weak teammates involved. But Let's try something else and see if a better number can be reached. Let's calculate the Power Median using 3 values instead of 6. Let's grab the Power Median of the team in pairs of 2. The first method will be pairing weak teammates together then we will pair a weak teammates with a strong teammate. We got 770, 776 = 773 | 784, 822 = 803 | 854, 1000 = 927 The true Power Median between these 3 values is 803, expected but now let's throw in the activity's power level which is 850. The Median is now 827. We still reach the same Power Median as before, which means 827 would be the optimal Power Median for the Hardcore Menagerie. 4 teammates will struggle, while 2 will breeze through it. Now, considering the majority of the team was underleveled, with one teammates greatly influencing the Power Median (770), the Activity's adjusted power level using the Team's Power Median would allow for this team composition to have a shot at participating in the activity. It still is a challenge to weak teammates but they can now participate as opposed to being neglected of a chance to attempt the activity. Now, this is more focused on making room to grow in power and allow some flexibility when doing activities together with friends who had back luck with RNG and are still low level, but want to do the higher level activities. As for the other method of pairing weak teammates with strong teammates, the result is the same 827. Now... Let's get juicy. We are doing it with high level players only. Grandmaster Nigthfall will be used now. 1060 is a level VERY few players have reached. and many fight it out at 1030-ish, so let's crunch some numbers. I will now be the weakest teammate at 1000, the other 2 are 1034 and 1056. The Power Median here would be 1034, but a better number can reached for obvious reasons, so let's add in the 1060. The Power Median is now 1045. Still 2 players are weak, while one is strong. Compared to other results, this falls in line with other activities with bigger teams and greater differences in power levels. This kind of system allows flexibility for low level players to participate in Endgame while giving high level players that Power Fantasy and sense of being the most powerful in the team while not breaking the challenge of the activity and still providing a good experience. What about a team that is the exact same level? Let's find out. 1060 Grandmaster Nightfall with a team that is 1045. In this case, the Power Median is 1045 but let's throw in the 1060 of the activity. The Power Median would be 1053. It becomes a bit easier, but player are still under leveled and will be challenged. Now to clarify players are not scaled up to the Power Median, players will still be their current Power level, it is the activity's power level that gets scaled to the Team's Power Median. Also, I mentioned earlier minimum power requirements are not needed, but in the sense of of calculating a good Power Median they are necessary so for the sake of it, minimum power requirements for activities will remain. Endgame activities will still remain endgame and players will have to grind to increase power. For example, a 900 team attempting a 1060 nightfall with the Power Median will have no chance to beat it as the Power Median would be 980, 80 levels above which renders their attacks as immune. This system is more intended to add flexibility to those closed in teams and individuals AND enhance the Power Fantasy of the game which is the prime core of this system. Anyhow, what do y'all think of it. Pleas keep it civil, no need for trash talk and toxicity.
