Hey Guardians, my frame rates on my Xbox X is pretty stable running open world and stuff. But when it comes to the Forge, Gambit, Strike & Nightfall boss encounters, Vex offensive and so on the drop in frame rates are noticeable. Even ads-ing with a snipe (when zoom value is 45 and above) results to drops in fps. I wish there where at least some options for console players to adjust the performance. I would gladly “sacrifice” higher resolution for a more stable (even if it is 30 fps) performance. ✌️

Problem hardware, problem engine. In addition to running the game, your console also has to run the game's networking code at the same time. All those places where you're having frame rate problems are place in the game where there is a LOT going on in the game on-screen AND you have on-line multiplayer. So what happens is that the CPU in even the One X isn't powerful enough to handle the load of both running the game...and its networking. So it bottlenecks. Which means the game slows down in calculating and communicating what has changed in the game to the graphics card for it to display.....so your frame rate drops. This is what happens when you try to exceed what the HARDWARE is capable of doing. Do it slightly....you get unstable framerate. Try to do it to a massive degree...you get freezes and crashes. There is no solution to this problem, because any possible solution would require more of a load on the CPU...and just make the bottlenecking worse. These consoles were UNDERPOWERED when they were released back in 2014....and the Pro and 1X just arguably got them to where they should have been 6 years ago. Which is why a new generation is coming out for both next year.

  • Agreed, there’s no real solution for the current console generation (including PSPro & X). Instead of an “resolution war”, Sony & MS should have gone for a “fps war” with the mid-gen update of the consoles. Hopefully the nex-gen consoles will deliver what they’re teasing.

  • Disagree. High resolution was the right move for the pro and x because TVs are getting bigger and 4K is becoming mainstream. Whereas super high frame rates benefit only a very few kinds of games. The error was just putting a weak cpu in these machines. Stronger cpus will do more to benefit games than just allowing higher frame rates.

  • It’s ok having different options. Me personally I take 1080p & 60 fps over 4K 30 fps every day for any type of game. ✌️

  • Which is a reasonable trade off if you're used to seeing high-framerates and play on a desktop looking at a small monitory. That's a BAD trade off if you're used to seeing cinematic framerates, and play sitting on a couch looking at a large flat-screen TV. Especially since most of those TVs top out at 60 HZ...and unless you're playing a fast-paced shooter (tick rate is usually tied to frame rate) or a racing game...that frame rate doesn't really improve game play.
