Why do you think I never asked you to draw Xombie?
People don't realize, but pushing an artist to do "stuff", it burns them out very quickly. That was why I stopped writing poetry, every body (this was years before OffTopic) always wanted me to make a poem just for them. I didn't even know them, so here I was, having to stress about a poem for someone that I didn't want to let down, but also, how was I to make it true when I would ask them to tell about themselves and I would get, "Oh you know, just what you think about me will do......"
I also watched a friend of mine slowly sink into depression and ultimately, he took his own life, because everyone wanted him to draw stuff for them. I asked him once if I paid him, to draw a D&D character for me, if that would put the same stress on him as someone just asking for their favorite superhero for free and he told me that it would put more on him at that time, because I was his friend and between that & the cash, it would stress him just trying to make it right. I let it go and told him no worries. About a year later he was gone.

That's really sad, but it's very true that pushing people because of their gifts is very heartless thing to do. It shows (or at least looks like) that you care more about what they can do for you, than that they are special person with their gift as a part of them

I had to read that a couple time to make sure I understood what you said there Hoss. Yeah, it is more important to see that person for who they are and that their art is a skill, just like any skill and you can burn them out & make them feel used. It is not folks intent, but that is what happens.

Yeah, rereading that it's not very well worded haha
