Matchmaking changes to 3v3 Survival and 3v3 Elimination

The dev team has just deployed changes to matchmaking settings for Survival, Freelance: Survival, and Labs: Elimination playlists to address feedback we've been receiving about skill mismatches. We’ll continue to monitor feedback and matchmaking data to improve these systems.

  • One of the main problems I'm having is that one match I'll carry hard and the next match (since your sbmm "updates every 5 minutes) I get out into a game based on how well other players did equal to my game...the problem here is that's not taking account of who we were matched against. If I go against a shit player and hit 5k damage and a efficiency of 12.0 and so does the other guy though he faced a top tier player and got those stats...while we equaled in skill he is obviously a much better player as he scored that skill on a much better player. They need to incorporate your score vs your opponents suspected skill in order to match you up with another team/enemy or else their sbmm just fails.

  • I think people fail to realize that when there is a higher overall degree of point gain as compared to point loss, there are inevitably going to be a lot of people that climb ranks by way of dumb luck and skill will correlate to Glory rank less because of it. I haven't had much time to play comp this season and only just hit 3400 last night. But the climb was very quick and the one brief loss streak I had around 2100 only set me back about 100 points. Last season I played about double the games to get to 3400 and went up against players at or around my skill level more often than not. Last night I was absolutely stomping going from 3100 to 3400 which indicates to me that the new gain vs loss system, as expected, prevents glory from representing player skill to any accurate degree. People cried and cried that they wanted the competitive aspect to be removed or reduced from "glory rank," and now that they have it they want to complain about all of the inherent issues that such a change creates. I don't get it honestly.

    • There's a lot of people hating on you guys right now. I honestly don't get it. I had 660 Crucible matches last season. 300 of those were in Competitive and most of them were solo until I realize I would never get to Fabled by myself. I finally made it. Throughout that journey, I got better. A lot better. I went in to Solo Survival and in less than 20 matches, hit Fabled. As a player who had to grind for weeks... months...to reach this goal last season, I definitely have noticed not just a HUGE change in MY ability, but in everything about the way Competitive (or now Survival) is. And it's for the better. Thank you for that. I genuinely believe that the people that -blam!- all the time are quite simply just...bad. I feel I have a right to say that because I was one of them.

      • I’ve played comp mostly solo for most seasons and finally hit legend this morning! I like the solo option a lot.

      • Lol the system is definitely off but you guys honestly just need to hone your skills. I also solo’d to 4500 in freelance before the fix & went back to 2900. But you can’t give up because you’re discouraged. Pick a load out you’re great with and don’t take it off for a week straight. PvP & PvE keep it on... learn your play style and perfect it!! Then pick a morning and jump into comp & stick it out. I’ve now reached Legend with no recov, no carry, no special controller just normal ps4. Stop whining!!!! Take the time to practice and you’ll get there..

          Last night's report: I played 3 games of Survival Freelance. Why going back? Why the hell not? I like Crucible better than Bungie does, so I man up and jump into the fray: First game: My team gets completely obliterated (73% chance of losing). One of my buddies leaves early and we end up playing 2vs3 several rounds. Flawless experience, thanks. Second game: My team wins 4-3. (60% chance of winning). It's hard-fought, it feels right even though I play badly. Nothing to complain about. Third game: My team gets obliterated again in the first couple of rounds (67% chance of losing). One teammate leaves. We win one round, lose the next one, the remaining teammate leaves. I end up playing 1vs3. Another enriching experience, thanks. I put the controller down and ask my clanmates. Everybody is going through the same experience, they can barely end a game with 3 players on their team, and when they do, they need to sweat their asses off to manage a win IF they can manage a win at all. Long lose streaks, almost no win streaks. If they win one game, they know for sure they are losing the next one. The system seems so rigged it's borderline criminal. Also, one week and 1500+ posts later, this week's TWAB has no mention about problems with Survival matchmaking since their last fix. So... Good job from your part, @Cozmo? I guess?

          • Still people are referring to the survival Playlist as a competitive Playlist Destiny has nothing competitive. Is a game with p2p global servers. The MM system in that Playlist it was fine and is fine. Fast q times easy to rank up and forgiving af It's more fun to play. B4 the new DLC i was wating to play ONE game 30-45 min and most of the times the lag was real. Also was so punishing if you lose and harder to rank up. The community is full of cry baby's. For real if you CANT rank up at this DLC you are just a bad player.

            • Last season was the first season I made it to 2100 in comp. this season I already hit legend. I consider myself a decent player at this point and was playing with a guy who’ has hit legend in past seasons, but the teams we were matched against were laughable in skill level 80% of the time between 4500 and 5500. Finished with a 7 win streak with very few challenging matches near the end. Now I have a Not Forgotten that I honestly don’t feel worthy using... there’s definitely something off with matchmaking.

                • And all content creators said "if your doing good for your team you will be rewarded" I think this only apply on streamers.

                • Sorry but whatever you did was terrible and once again the feedback that made you change this will have most likely came from content creators but m because bungie seems to fall to understand the playerbase is much bigger than them! Pre changes I was winning 2 or 3, losing 1 or 2 in freelance but every game was fun and it was close... Post changes, absolute joke. Win 1 lose 3 or 4 but getting trashed... In solo queue! That shouldn't be possible with good matchmaking

                    Yeah it still sucks. Whenever you go on a streak you get paired against will max glory players to break your streak.

                  • Comp still sucks, absolute trash, I’m currently less than 4000 and I’ve been playing people who use the glory rank emblem to show their current rank and at least 20 people have had 5500, when will things actually become fair in comp.

                    • thought something was up. i never really played comp much and then this season i solo'd to 5100. seemed a bit odd, just finished up a game where the matchmaking put me up with other 5k's and i got absolutely stomped. glad to know that you fixed the issue. but also sad i did not get NF.

                    • This is the reason why people are complaining. The the guys are 4500 Plus in comp saying that it's easy are getting matched up with potatoes. well we're getting matched up with the guys already Legend. If I'm in brave I shouldn't see legend rank guys rocking unbroken. If matchmaking work as intended it wouldn't have been as easy as you would match with guys your skill lvl. When something is unbalanced it works in someone's favor and right now it's working in sweaty comp players favor. This needs to be addressed by Bungo.

                    • Who is giving the feedback? This is the easiest season to get to legend. Why are people still complaining? If it’s still too hard for you clearly it’s not for you. Don’t make them mess up the matchmaking when it’s been better than what it used to be.

                      • This is how I know your true skill system is not working. I have two teammates with negative KDs in comp, are under 2000 glory, and are sub 50 win percentage. Other team are all over 4500 glory above average KDs in comp. Are you telling me your true skill system calculated that my teammates were good enough to hang with 4500 + players? No. What your system did was place two potatoes with a teammate it thought could carry enough to make it and "even match." needless to say my teammates got destroyed. I carried enough to make it an "even" match and lose 4 to 3. I'm not the only one experiencing this issue. Getting old real fast.

                        • I'm curious about what exactly got changed. Or at least, a dumbed-down version of the logic behind changes. "Skill-mismatches" needs a definition for me to feel like thee was something there. For example: Was it a matter of match results overall? Was it a question solo performance in say, last 3 matches? The last 20? Does the number of reports other players make against a player factor in? I don't think anybody will feel satisfied with any explanation, but I feel I'd like to know what makes the game tick, or how the dev team explores and experiments on systems like this.

                        • This is the easiest it's been why are people complaining I'm shit at pvp and got to fable in a few hours, and I didn't play after that but the fact you can't go back past a rank is a breath of fresh air because if it was last year were do you think you would be if you've lost 6 in a row, back at the beginning,

                            • Matchmaking sucks... I got put in a solo elimination game where I was on a team of 3 vs 2 opponents. No, a player did not leave their team. The match began while we had 2 opponents. They stood no chance. It was no where near fair, how could that even happen? I am only lucky I wasn’t on the other side of it.

The game play feels like garbage now even in PvE. Matchmaking is garbage in crucible, weapons feel like trash now, that includes some pinnacle weapons. Its garbage, this game feels like trash now! Good
