I am going to gripe about something in my personal life, feel free to ignore

I am just venting here about 2 different things. The first one is just a stupid thing and the second is something that hits me this time of year. You can read or ignore or add complaints, I just need to vent a little bit. So anyways, about 2 years ago I bought a brand new Samsung 60” tv. It is not a 4k, because I do not see any actual difference, which could be due to my eyesight slowly deteriorating or because it is a great big scam, but I have my money on the eyesight. Anywho, after a year, the damn motherboard went out on me. Thankfully, I bought a 5 year warranty. Well that first replacement motherboard was shit and so I had to wait a week for a new one and then bam, my TV was working again. Now fast forward a year and guess what is doing the same shit as it was doing last time? Yup, my damned Samsung is going out. See, I take care of all my shit. I have never had a TV wear out on me, back when they were tube TV's and weighed 500lbs, lol. I have my TV plugged into a surge protector/ battery pack. I have all my good electronics connected to shit like that. To me, the protection is worth it, plus my main outlet there is a GFI, so it will trip as well. See, I give a shit about my shit. So now I have to file a damn claim and they are either going to send out another motherboard & a tech or they will send me a check, according to the store, so that is not bad, I am lucky I bought the extended warranty. I swear that it feels like nothing is built to last and is overpriced as hell for less. So the other thing that bothers me this time of year, is trucker safety. This won't matter to most of you, but a lot of states and companies have adopted No Idling laws. In effect, a trucker can not run his semi for more than 5 minutes while parked. This makes no sense to me. We throw a hissy fit about people leaving their animals in their hot cars. We throw hissy fits about people leaving the elderly in a hot car. We throw fits about people leaving a baby in a hot car, but truckers, they are supposed to sleep in the hot ass truck and sit in the sun for hours as their truck is loaded or unloaded and no one gives a shit, then we want this person to drive that giant vehicle safely to their next destination. How -blam!-ing stupid is that? We value everyone/thing but the person behind the wheel who brings us our shit to our stores, to our homes, to our warehouses, etc and shares the road with us and our families in a vehicle that can kill us in a moment if that driver suffers any form of problem that causes his attention to be less then perfect. Does that just seem stupid to ya'll as well? As a truck driver, you don't dare leave your truck unlocked, there are people that will steal your truck and your load (go ahead, I made the joke in my head, lol), and if you are lucky, leave you with just a sore head. So yeah, that is me venting. Thank you for stopping by and yes, it is just first world problems, but they are things that bug me. Oh well.

  • Perhaps trucks should be redesigned then My father is a bus driver, sometimes has to sleep in the bus during the day, but they have a cabin hidden right next to the stairs in the shadows so it’s not too hot

    • I had a state trooper in Arkansas tap on my window while I was taking a nap while driving to Nashville from Houston. At an interstate rest stop. As you know I drive a diesel as well, he told me I had to turn my engine off. I couldn't believe what I was hearing but after explaining that the trailer I had wasn't commercial nor was my truck used for commercial use he proceeded in telling me I could either get a ticket or leave the rest stop. I drove another 30 miles off of an hours rest after 12 hours of straight driving just to sleep in my truck in a Walmart parking lot lmfao, -blam!-ing road pirates. On the other hand I completely agree with you about products no longer being built to last. This is what todays market is about, crank out a product at the cheapest cost to make, charge for it at a premium, and expect within a year for the product to need repair resulting in repair fees or just an outright new purchase from the consumer. It is truly sad, it is hard to find quality makes even for people much like ourselves who were raised to take care of what you own. I never owned a Samsung but my 72" Sony is five years old and still running like a champ, the previous 50" was a Sony as well and it ran for about 8 years only needing a lamp replacement twice. Same goes for trucks, I have several buddies who just got 2019's. One has a GMC gasser the other two have diesels from Dodge and Ford. All three before the one year mark have had their trucks in the shop for one thing or another. Usually electrical related but still it is a damn shame.

That’s a pretty stupid law. Wtf comes up with these laws? No wait... it was probably the guy who decided it was illegal to get drunk in bars in Alaska or the guy who thought it should be illegal to carry an ice cream cone in your back pocket in Georgia.

Welcome to “progress”. People used to make products that cost a lot of money but lasted decades. Now a days they make products in third world sweat shops and design them to last only a few years maximum. This is deliberate - we’ve moved towards a disposable, cheap product marketplace where people are constantly pushed to buy the latest technology or latest fashion every year because that makes more profit. This applies to everything - clothing (fast fashion), phones (got to have the latest model even though the last one was perfectly fine), TV’s (got to have the latest gimmick curved screen, 4K, 8K, 3D whatever). What, you don’t want the latest trend? Too bad - that cheap piece of plastic we jammed in the back of your TV is designed to break after 2 years and it will cost you more to repair it than buy a new TV. Meanwhile we’re filling up landfill with all the trash products we throw out after a year. This is “progress” apparently.

          • About you TV that just sucks. But not being able to have your truck run if your in it for more than 5 minutes is plain -blam!-.
you could possibly buy a battery powered Fan/cooler. Just have it charge when you're driving
• After putting well over 6k miles on my truck during this month driving to Florida and back, then to Missouri and back......my main gripe is when trucks start playing leap frog with each other! Seriously though, there’ll be at least three of them in the right lane, where they should stay. I say this because they are all barely going the speed limit and when the one in the back moves over to pass the others because he decided to kick it all the way up to 3 miles over the speed limit, he waits until I’m about 3 car lengths away to move over into the left lane in front of me. It’s a good thing my Toyota has over sized brakes otherwise you wouldn’t be hearing about this rant! Aren’t you lucky?

                  • Around 10 years ago my dad and I bought the same Samsung 47" HD TV. His had similar problems while mine worked perfectly with no issues. He had it repaired twice, once in the warrenty period and one he had to pay for. A little more than over a year ago I bought a 60" inch 4k TV and gave my other TV to my dad and now he had problems with that one as well, he recently bought a new 4k TV. Do you zap channels a lot? My dad zaps with his remote like a madman while I only use my TV to play games and watch Nerflix and similar things. I am convinced that zapping a lot is not good for your set. So maybe you are just unlucky, but if you zap like a dad then maybe zap a bit less it might help.

Autonomous trucking is the only solution. It really is. It’s an awful job anyway. I drove 80k miles last year doing mine inspections and I’m on track again this year. That much time on the road is literally insane. I do what I do because I’m in a pickup and the company pays for all my meals and hotels and fuel and the money is good and I get to travel the country and see shit. Truckers are just stuck. It’s an awful profession that people shouldn’t have to do. Also your tv is just lazy but a new one and make it jealous.

                                    • I think a lot of modern stuff is built to break after a few years, it’s a throw away society now. No profit in making something that lasts someone a lifetime. As for the trucks it’s very true, even here in the U.K. with all our laws designed to stop over working lorry drivers so they are not tired and safe to work get exploited. Some are made to bypass the in cab computers to hide how long they are really driving.

To the second one; as someone who used to unload the stuff off the trucks, that’s stupid. The trucks would usually arrive by the time my shift ended the day before, and not leave until halfway through my shift the next day. You’re telling me for that whole time they can’t have the truck on for some AC?

                                          • 4K TVs actually do make a difference. It’s not the higher graphical fidelity (as our eyes can’t even see in 4K) but the added pixels and stuff allows for better color, deeper blacks, and an all-around better picture.

Man, Samsung puts out good some ok *components* (like component parts) but outside the phone the only other Samsung product I have is a solid state drive for my computer. (It's not one of those fancy NVME drives but read/write is still leagues better than an HDD.) Their b-die RAM was quite good. But I'm not quite sure how that works. Like... what physical parts Samsung would provide to say... Corsair so Corsair can finish production, then sell RAM modules. Anyway... I opted for an LG panel that performs, as far as I can tell, as well as some of the other brands in the price bracket. At least at the time I purchased it. The idle thing... sounds kinda shit. But. I did read this article yesterday. Guy was living in a van (down by the river). He had a pretty nifty mini solar array/power bank to power a little AC unit as well as a peared back entertainment system. Not sure how practical a setup as such (or the installation process) would be on a rig =/

It's a double standard that people don't seem to get. If its a kid or an animal or the elderly its a big no-no, but somehow truck drivers are exempt. Its like they expect you to be tough enough to take that kind of heat no problem. I say make them sit in a truck when it's damn hot out and see how long they can go without ac.

You can complain all you want but fact is: They make non-4K TVs suck purposely so that you are pushed to buy a 4K. Not only that, only the $1,000+ TVs actually do true HDR. Varvatos’s 10yr. old Sharp tv looks better then its successors lol. The only way around it is to buy a 4K tv. 😬😕
