Call it what it really is, greed. At this point consumers should be boycotting any company that consists of shareholders. This situation is an inevitability of capitalism. Quite why we accept ever lowering standards in our products, whilst paying ever increasing prices is well beyond me.

  • its not greed they need a continued cash flow to keep paying people and making new stuff. No one makes you pay for any items in game so dont buy it. stop complaining about it. it doesn't change your gameplay or ruin the game so get over it.

  • Well, that's where we disagree, it does affect gameplay and my enjoyment of it.

  • So boycott every company then? Even if the workers aren't getting paid enough they've still got to get paid for their work no matter what it is. Not everyone can get paid to play games on Twitch all day. Full priced games were £39.99 in the SNES/Megadrive era and they aren't much more now despite the increase in staff and time it takes to make games these days and people have bills to pay. You wouldn't work for free.

  • You obviously don't know me. I work for free regularly, it's called volunteering. What happens is instead of financial reward you get the personal reward of feeling like you've helped better other peoples lives who may be less fortunate than yourself. Also not every company is on the stock market, in fact i'd say the majority aren't, although i have no numbers. Self employed and sole trader companies, will often give you a lot higher standard of product, as it is their name, their companies reputation and ultimately their livelihood that is at stake if they continue delivering sub standard. Not so much with publicly floated companies, they are run in order to maximise profits, and the only way to make investors stick around or invest any more, is to show them ever increasing profits year on year. To do this you must cut costs, which results in attrocious labour conditions for people on poor wages, as well as an inferior product year after year. But hey who the -blam!- am i??

  • You might work for free "regularly" but that means nothing without defining a timescale - If I worked for free five days a week I couldn't pay my rent for because I am in one of those low paid jobs you mention. Of course I don't know you telling me this is redundant, I do know that in a capitalist society you can't live off volunteering. You definitely can't feed your kids off volunteering either. All you've done is expand on everything I put in my original response (if you read it properly at all) you haven't actually brought anything new or clever to the table so I'd keep your ego in check if you're able. Good luck feeding and housing yourself with good feelings though, I might ask my landlord if he'll take them as payment instead.
