If your VPN works, it sounds like BT's going through a mess of routing issues and using the VPN reroutes your connection around the problem area(s).
Good find; it sucks that most of the general population can't deal with VPNs or have any clue how to use them but it's nifty that at least one person found a way around the issue.

If I had a penny for every time someone blames the network, it then being found not to be the network......... I would have retired on Bungie D2 error codes alone. Out of interest does anyone know if this is just D2 or other Activision titles also.

Hi Steveo, BT are not perfect and have issues like any network provider. If the network is running all services fine however just one service not working then your problem is specific to the service. It still may be a BT issue with peering in to Bungie ISP, but does not look like a general BT network issue. One possibility is throttling as you mention but again it would need to be specific to that peering point. General throttling is not evident on other XBL services over BT. This sort of throttling may equally be being implemented service side too. In various traces Cloudflare pops up, they are a WAF provider, could be linked if their services front D2 servers.

I'd ask how to change VPN but I feel like I'm probably not adequately technologically equipped to do it. I'm so f***ing angry right now that I feel my judgement is too clouded anyway. I'm glad you found a way round it, an is there an idiots guide for others to try an do the same thing please? Cheers
