How to bring back "lapsed players" for destiny 2? Why I stopped playing destiny.

I read an article that Bungie wanted to bring back lapsed players for destiny 2 and that you believed a constant stream of content was the answer to players leaving the game. A constant stream of content is a good idea, but it isn't the reason I left. I left destiny because each time you brought out an expansion you reduced my current weapons and gear to crap. I spent over 300 hours playing the game, trying to get the best gear I could and then each expansion made it worthless. My 300 meant nothing, it had become a waste of my time. You did it to me twice, and I stopped playing altogether. It's one thing to make raid gear and weapons, giving players something new to work towards, but making old gear worthless was a big mistake. You alienated me as a player. I have not bought the new expansions, I have stopped playing destiny, even when my friends ask me to join. I refuse to play destiny, or any game made by bungie as a result. You want me back as a customer and player? I want a guarantee that with every expansion current gear, top of line gear, gets updated to be on the same level as new gear, so my time and effort spent playing still means something. I am not the only player you alienated this way. If not for this, destiny would have remained a pretty cool game.

  • Uh...they struggle to do minor things like vault space. That's all you need to know lol

  • I've ground down my teeth considering a return upon Destiny 2s arrival. I've told myself and others that that installment would bring resolve to the majority of precursors that stagnated its potential. I find myself not caring, however, because almost nothing will bring me back. Beyond the obsolescence, though including, that you've touched on is Bungies politics having interfered and hampered with my experience. From RNG to the removal of elemental primaries to withholding exotics for rerelease to everything caught lifelessly in between. From firefly crashing my system for a year to glitches being fixed in a day. Their agenda can be seen with a black light. They're more concerned with keeping people playing than keeping people happy. There's a difference between the two, a distinction that has become synonymous instead of dissimilar, invoking resentment in many cases over one's lost time amid their creation of a temporary legend. Bungie is oblivious to the latter. Bringing back many lapsed players is like expecting a firefly to forever glow in a jar designed to suffocate it. Eventually it's enjoyment dies out. Solutions to these dilemmas have emerged without end. Respecting our time in every nuance of its applicable definition is critical to attaining their ambition. I speak for myself when I say I am not a "lapsed" player, however. I'm burnt out on the bull shit. Not the game. Fix the bull shit.

  • I wouldn't say it was because they made year 1 gear irreverent, it was more or less the fact they didn't even try to make newer memorable gear like in year 1 I've played Kings Fall so many times and gotten all the raid's weapons over and over and i cant remember a single name of the guns or gear. Vault of Glass on the other hand you could play 3x a week just to try and get that Fate Bringer, Found Verdict, and even that dreaded Praetorian Foil that you would never see. and you had to play for weeks, months, a year! just to handle that gear and shoot things in the face with it. I don't mind if they make the old gear irreverent just as long as they put effort and uniqueness into the newer stuff.

I don't think you understand Destiny then. This is a loot based game. Getting better gear and higher light level is the goal. Once you achieve that, what are you playing for? I went through the same thing with Y2 to Y3. My 330+ gear meant nothing.....and I was glad for it. Half the fun has been getting new gear and getting my light level up to 400 (one day). I love this game, so I'm all in for Destiny 2.

      • Can't have everyone back. You don't have a problem with Destiny. You have a problem with every loot-based RPG that has ever been made.

      • Player Wipes are a super common thing in MMO's irregardless of semantics. Fresh starts are nice and it shows who really was abusing the cheap stuff and who actually contributed positive things during it all.

        • I think they learned the lesson with the newest iteration of the infusion system, however I think it won't carry over into destiny 2.

        • Then you must not have played much MMOs. It's an incredibly common thing in similar games to leave behind weapon/gear sets when new expansions come out with new weapons and armor. What fun is it to use a weapon you got in vault of glass, the lowest level raid, against Aksis, who is much more powerful than Atheon? On top of that, everything earned from the taken king to present day can be infused up to the current max levels.
