Trials - What to do in Outnumbered Situations (Video and Written Analysis)

Intro Gentlemen (and maybe 2 ladies?), Dukaness here! Episode 7 of Trials Tips & Tutorials! We’re going to talk about outnumbered situations. I’ve already made one video on this topic, but I’m going to keep making them. The reason being, no matter how good or bad you are, everyone finds themselves in 1v3 situations. Maybe you only come out successful 4-5 times every 100 situations. If I can help you get that up to even 10 times, I’ll feel like I’m giving you and your team a chance to win more rounds. In my last video about outnumbered situations, I was sniping. Surviving a 1v3, in my opinion, is easier with a sniper because you can keep distance from your opponents and get picks from safety. I know not everyone snipes, so I think it’s helpful that I show you how to get it done with a shotgun as well, which is what this video is based around. If You’re At Work – Sorry :( You guys know I always post text with my videos to help my fellow guardians at work. Unfortunately, because this video is a frame by frame breakdown of one round, it’s a pretty visual tutorial. As a result, typing out what I say in this case isn't as helpful as it has been in the past, but I have included a brief version of the key points I make in the text below. [I do my best to explain the video in these brackets]. Key Takeaways Isolating Yourself: Even the best players in the world can’t take 2-3 players on at the exact same time, so you and I don’t have a chance either. Therefore, your goal in a 1v3 situation is to find a way to get your opponents to challenge you one at a time, meaning you need to win three 1v1 engagements. [I’m the last guardian standing about 7 seconds into the round on Timekeeper. I duck into the hole in the middle of the map near the inside heavy crate. This hole in the roof above my head actually gives me an advantage. My opponents know I’m below them, but they don’t know where I’m standing because the radar isn’t pinpoint accurate. However, I know where they are coming from because they have to drop through the hole. Also, I have a shotgun, so as long as I see my opponent first, they’re going to die. I bait one down and easily get the kill]. Guarding Your Orb: My odds have now drastically increased with that kill. I own one of the other team’s orbs. 1v2 situations are pretty interesting, because there are only three possibilities. (1) The two players both go for their orb, in which case you can book it to you team’s orbs. (2) They split up - in which case you have another 1v1 engagement. (3) The worst case, and smartest for your opponent, they stay together and keep covering your team’s orbs. [Initially, this team made the smart play and stayed together]. When that happens, you need to bait them. [In the video, I gradually move further and further away from their team’s orb, until eventually one player can’t pass up the opportunity for a res. Once I see movement on my radar, I double back and get the kill]. Challenge While Reviving: Now that I’ve evened up the scoreboard, it’s time to get some of my squad back. Biker is telling me that a sniper is watching his orb. So I revive him while challenging. Not everyone plays with a claw button layout, and not everyone has a scuf controller. But there is a short window where you can challenge your opponent while the revive has already registered but your teammate is still immune to damage. You NEED to get shots on the sniper in that situation [which I did here]. I didn’t land very many, but it was enough to make him miss the shot. Now that I have Biker up and our opponent has abandoned his team’s orbs, we pretty much have the round in the bag. Outro That’s it for today, guys. I know this video was short, but there wasn’t much else to add. For now and going forward, I’ll be saving and uploading whichever 1v3s I think will add value, with commentary of course. I want to make sure I cover every important detail in each situation so you guys take as much away from this as possible and be as prepared as possible when you get into a 1v3 scenario. Let me know if you found this video helpful. I’ll see you all soon. -Duke
