I understand the frustrations with lack of matchmaking for folks who don't want to scour the forums. I've had a few times where I've wanted to do a raid or something but was unable to find a group in a timely fashion and had to settle for something else. I worry that there would be some potentially unexpected ramifications though... Namely, I think about how the strike playlists and weekly heroics are now: silent. Furthermore, I usually run through the strikes as fast as possible as do most people I play with, but if I'm farming for weapon parts or helping a newcomer (ie., wanting to shoot through everything) I usually can't because the other(s) in the fireteam will run through regardless and I feel like I'm not contributing. Which brings us to OPTIONAL matchmaking... I think this is perhaps the best option, but not without its own potential shortcoming: this would also dramatically reduce the number of people in the recruitment forums - making things more difficult for those who actually want to control their squad. Also worth noting, from a purely social aspect, I have something like 40 Xbox friends that I've added from the forums because I enjoyed playing with them. Similar to above, I suspect that less incentive for people to use the forums means less communication within fireteams which means less people you meet through the game. Anyway, I totally empathize with your frustrations and am in no way disagreeing necessarily. I just think there are some reasonable counter arguments too.
