I realize RNG has been beaten to death pretty much since day one, but it is still a major issue. I am a Day One player with three level 34 characters, countless raid and PoE completions, 3500 grimoire score, and well over 1000 hours logged. One of my biggest drives in Destiny is to collect everything: grimoire, exotics, etc. So when Xur came to the Tower with helmet engrams this week, I saw it as a chance to collect a much needed HoW exotic, the Celestial Nighthawk. Since the drop of HoW, I have purchased a total of 62 helmet engrams from our tentacle-faced friend for the hefty total of 1426 motes of light. I have exhausted my supplies of ascendant and radiant materials at the Speaker. I have redeemed my stash of cores from Variks for gear to be dismantled for motes. I have done the same with Vanguard and Crucible marks on each of my three characters. In one last ditch effort to aquire the final piece to my exotic helmet puzzle, I traded every last strange coin in my possession for motes as well. Still no Nighthawk. So far the last 36 hours, I have been reduced to repetitively running the level 28 PoE to loot the final chests for additional motes. My question to Bungie is not "why don't I have every exotic?", but "WHEN THERE ARE ONLY 15 EXOTIC HELMETS, WHY HAVE I NOT RECEIVED AT LEAST ONE OF EACH AFTER OVER 60 ATTEMPTS?" (caps for visual emphasis, not emotional) Ideally I should have at least four. For the past hour or so, I have been scouring the forums for similar stories of which there are a select few extreme cases. Most are just griping about Gjallarhorn, which is understandable but not exactly relevant to my argument since Xur has never sold and exotic heavy engram. I am interested to know how many people here have also been cheated out of their motes by this seeming conspiracy between the mysterious Xur and his cryptarch duo.
Edit: As an analytically minded person, it just rubs me the wrong way when I get to thinking about the numbers. As a completionist, it rubs me even harder to think that this one item is eluding my grasp after so many attempts.
Edit: After a month and a half and 1771 motes, I finally purchased the Celestial Nighthawk from Xur for 13 coins.

Gotta get Dat 1/15 bruh
-
I needed 1 for ram And 4 for nighthawk.. I got eternal warrior from my first poe run.. I guess I'm lucky lol.. I still can't get the new hunter boots tho
-
800+ Motes of Light for the Ram helmet...Nothin
-
Well I've done the same thing before and after HoW release. Before HoW I spent hundreds of motes trying to get Heart of the Praxic Fire and never got it until it was sold. After HoW I went through the same exact process for the Purifier Robes. One of the things that pisses me off more than the feeling of wasting materials; is after I bought each armor piece, they started dropping for me in Nightfalls.

Editado por VergilPrime: 7/22/2015 5:00:57 AMI read this post couple weeks ago and I read someone reply that xur will probably sell it and then i lmaod when I saw xurs inventory Friday.

Preach on the struggle brother. Bought at least 25 engrams trying to get the ram and I finally gave up. Nothing but old helmets.

Editado por jamz123: 7/18/2015 4:53:07 AMIt kinda feels like the end of a documentary. "6 months later little Jimmy got out of rehab. He now leads a normal life. He still gets urges to buy exotic helmet engrams but it gets easier everyday"

Glad to see Xur finally doing some good. Sure, no weapons sucks hard, but Nighthawk is beast. Now everyone can enjoy its power. I've read that its more powerful than Gjally. I don't have Gjally, so I can't confirm that. I do know Nighthawk will dish out around 15,000 damage to lvl 28 Fallen Majors. I managed to roast two wizards at once during the Phogoth solar burn Nightfall, it hit just over 56,000 each. Try that with one Ghorn shot :)

I feel your pain bro. This game can be frustrating
-
I got the same thing but not as extreme. Bought 23 helmet engrams in the first weeks of HoW and hoped to find The Ram for the Warlock. Got nothing out of it that I didn't have. I mean it's luck but it would be nice if the drop rate could be set a little higher. Even though I understand that it is new and that they want to make it harder to get, thry should still higher the chances.

Im in the same boat!! 53 engrams purchased and I got two of the ram, two of the eternal warrior and loads of everything else. No nighthawk....... Im not going to grind for motes anymore. Im tired of trying to find something new to do in destiny that doesnt make me mad or annoyed.... If xur sells it then I will buy it but Im not wasting any more of my time!!!
-
I've bought 50 helmet engrams and still cant get the ram
I feel your pain
-
Ouch man. You'll get it eventually
-
There really should be a way to build forge quest for just about anything in the game. It give people goals. Make the cost astronomical.
-
Got mine from Nightfall. You will enjoy it when it drops. :)

Editado por BIGFOOTofD00M: 7/15/2015 10:25:48 PM4 engrams. Ended up with mask of third man, insurmountable skullfort, obsidian mind, and yep, you guessed it. Celestial Nighthawk. Not to brag or anything, but its bad as shit =p 12k shots on atheon lmfao ridiculous. Then got the ram with the next single engram I bought lmao
-
Lol not trying to rub it in but I got all three new helmets within like 10 engrams in between 2 week of xur selling them XD
-
I've tried maybe 15 to 20 engrams now and haven't gotten it either. Your story discourages me. I got The Ram right out of the gate with HoW and that is the only reason I played my Warlock more now. There is such a thing as too much RNG...and Bungie has found it.
-
I have gotten over 6 Nighthawks while trying to get the Ram.
-
70 useless exotic shards in my vault, I had 5 once I had upgraded all pre HoW weps and armour. Il say it again .... Xur should accept these shards back at a rate of 5 exotic shards for 1 exotic engram. And yes the rng sucks, I'm after celestial nighthawk and the ram, damn things don't exist in my loot table.
-
It took me 2 weeks of xur-engrams farming, the 12th one yesterday finaly gave my warlock the ram....... last week no Luck
-
Editado por Clown: 7/11/2015 2:17:25 PMI bought 4 engrams got the ram, and the nighthawk. I was lucky and unlucky, because at the time I was using 3 titans.. this gave me a good reason to start a warlock and hunter again.
-
Editado por Hattori_Hanzo: 7/14/2015 6:43:49 PMI got EXTREMELY lucky when Xur brought around chest piece engrams, I got purifier robes on my 5th engram. When he came around the next time bringing helmet engrams I got all 3 helmets in about 8 engrams. This was very rare for me, usually my luck is terrible. I'm so serious, I was the last in my group to get Gjallarhorn, and I still don't have a 4th horseman. So while I do hate rng it has been very kind to me in regards to armor.
-
I feel your pain. This is why RNG often fails as a system. Back when I used to play SWTOR, I had something really similar happen to my guildmate. In order to get the crafting schematic for an armor piece, you had to dismantle the tier below it and hope you got the schematic, which was a 20% chance. So if you wanted a purple level 50 blaster barrel schematic, you had to dismantle a blue level 50 barrel and hope for the best. My guildmate really wanted a specific armor schematic and ended up destroying like 80 of the damn things before he got it. At a 20% success rate, the odds of that heppening are 1.7 x 10^-8. That's -blam!-ing tiny. RNG doesn't work as a good system for players. It works as a good system for devs that need people to play their games longer.
-
The answer is fairly simple... It's just RNG. I calculated the odds of someone ending up in your shoes and it is 1.5%. Sucks, but it can happen. My advice is to just play the game and you will eventually get it... Xur will sell it. The kill shot is not worth the motes. I really want the bones of eau. It is the only exotic in the game that I still need. He doesn't even sell boot engrams! It took me 69 Crota normal runs to get black hammer. It's just rng. Play the game without fixating on any one thing and you will eventually have all of them. Just my two cents.

You simply got trolled by the cryptarchs. Rahool loves getting your hopes up and Ives got over his amazing decoding skills now that he's broken in.
