It's literally just a convenience. I don't understand why you'd think they'd force you to get another peripheral, it doesn't benefit them in any way (other than website traffic, if an app even counts as that). If you don't want to use it that's fine, it's not like anyone's gonna force you to later on down the line lol. And also that crucible example is great in words but in actuality it would never happen. You have to do extensive scrolling and tapping to switch items over, it doesn't happen at the press of 1 button. Anyone who tries to switch weapons over mid game is setting themselves up for 1) no kills and multiple deaths or 2) no support to their team for those couple of mins to switch, and also probably a couple of deaths. Play a game of basketball and stop every couple of mins to change your shoes while the game continues. It would end up giving your opponent a huge advantage.

  • He means you would load up a certain gun you like and have equip open and waiting. You could switch literally anytime you want to. I see where he is coming from and that is a huge advantage. I mean switching between shotty and sniper on the fly. You want that ar instead of your hc? Just tap a button and bam changed. It is broken honestly.

  • You know, this may solve some mysteries about events that happened during Iron Banner when I swore a guy was sniping but then a minute later was using a shotgun on me.

  • Well just let you know I tried it and thankfully it doesn't work. Says you need to be logged off it in orbit to equip. So there ya go bud.

  • When I say "force" me to get something else to play the game, I mean so that I am not left behind in terms of a competitive advantage that everyone else has. I still won't get it; I'll just play at another disadvantage (beyond my slow reflexes and poor hand-eye coordination). The Crucible example is exactly what people are requesting; the ability to change loadouts in mid-game, in a combat zone, without going to an in-game menu. I've looked at my character sheet on the computer (the phrase I use is revealing in itself- I'm a throwback to paper-and-pencil Dungeons & Dragons, when things really were written down on paper). There's an option to scroll over an item and press "Equip", which should in theory equip it on your character. I've never tried it, so I don't know if it works or not. But if a player just keeps a laptop running or a tablet beside them, with their character sheet open, and is able to switch items mid-combat? This may not be what Bungie has delivered, but it's what players currently want. I know many in my clan do. If this becomes an option in-game, through the controller- no problem. It's only if it's through a peripheral device that only some people have that I object. I suppose, if it were context-sensitive to where you are in the game, and disallows equipment switching during Crucible- I could live with it working through a phone/ whatever. Not if it works in the Crucible, though.

  • I get where you are going, this might evolve one day to an advantage, but currently its not. Lag can cause the equip to take several seconds. And this only really works for primaries really, any other gun is returned without ammo. This feature is useful for a quick swap when dead. If you have your crucible guns with you, you can do the same through the ingame menu. Only takes a bit longer, which is hardly a disadvantage when you are dead anyway. I have thought about how these functions are exploitable. If they ever make gun perks adjustable from an app, thats when exploits will popup. For example, spawning with field scout, then swap for another perk while keeping the big magazine. This is already exploitable, but takes too much time to be useful. An app could change that. I think this can easily be prevented by not allowing gear changes untill your next respawn (like most games do, like cod), in the crucible. That way these apps are just a handy addition, but cant give any advantage over those who dont use them.
