You've written a well-thought out and cohesive review of the alpha, but I completely disagree. Playing with your wife is an issue that results from the fact that split screen requires the console to render the game twice which will not happen. Cross-generation/cross-platform play is not possible due to Microsoft and Sony, so what do you expect Bungie to do? The exploration I can somewhat see but I'm sure was stripped down somewhat to hide the story. Even then, I didn't care, I was having a blast exploring new areas and fighting enemies. To me, it was no grind because I had fun with it. The missions after a while are boring, but we haven't seen more so I reserve judgement on that until the full game. The Strike was amazing and required strategy and thought. Had you communicated with your team it would have been easier. I paired with randoms five times on legendary and only used the mic once. Surviving waves wasn't easy, but with strategy was completely doable. I was paired with a lower level player doing the strike for the first time and I showed him two spots where he wouldn't be rushed and could take care of stronger enemies. He said the only other FPS he had played was Killzone SF, but he did fine. The tank was fun every time because if you missed the dodge you would die. I enjoyed myself thoroughly during it and the boss fight. The last point I'll address because I'm tiring of writing this is that the PvP is skill based and it sounds like you are lacking. I now consistently get a 1.5-2.0 switching up guns every couple games to level up my guns. Headshots are important, moving in three dimensions is important, ammo management is important, supers are important, vehicles can be stopped (turrets exist for a reason, you can hit the driver not the vehicle), and there are many ways to approach combat. It is balanced if you know what there is to manage. In short, as others may say "git gud."

 • That kid should do fine. compared to the BF and COD and titan fall of this generation, KZSF is a guilty pleasure. But one that is more pure of a FPS then those others. No AIM ASSISTS AT ALL, adds to one developing their FPS skills. So I would hope he came into destiny being like "You not know from the hells I've seen!! Have you ever been spawn camped?!"

 • Hew as unsure but did fine when I played with him. His aim was decent, occasionally missing headshots but taking his fair share of enemies. When I showed him some good strategies he was grateful and did even better.

 • Ive been a staunch Keyboard and mouse FPS player for decades. to be frank, I SUCK with a controller. Never could get the cross-hairs to go where I wanted them to go and following moving targets has been an almost impossible task for me. and lets not even talk about sniping. Even the new KZ Shadowfall that I got with the PS4 for "Free" when I picked it up at best buy last year was hard for me. That being said I found that in Destiny I had nearly no problems at all with aiming and getting the cross-hairs on target. I don't know if the game is helping me or somehow I got vastly better at using a controller in under an hour of playing but I found that by the end of day 3 I was consistently getting head shots on even moving targets. It could be the game responds to controls better or it could be the controller for the ps4 reads my thoughts and knows what I want it to do. but I'm able to hold my own for at least the PvE stuff. Id still want to get the game to work with a keyboard and mouse though. I am just so used to that style of gaming and will be going back to it when Star Citizen launches.

 • A lot of people have said that there is no aim assist so I think it boils down to bungie doing a very good job of knowing how to make full use of the controller and it's sensitivity.
the fact that split screen requires the console to render the game twice which will not happen.
The Halo games had it. Yeah the console has to render multiple points of view in the environment, but that also involves shrinking the size of each player's screen, so they can lower the resolution of what's on the screen without much visual difference. In Reach splitscreen Bungie had some of the lighting and plant life turned off to help the console better handle the game. They could also tweak the draw distance during coop so the closest enemies have the normal polygon counts, but further ones use a model with a lower level of detail (it really isn't that noticeable when games do it right).

 • In argument halo wasnt played or made in a live interactive world like destiny is there fore rendering of 2+ screens with npc's, and other live players WOULD be more difficult then the halo game series. That is all i have to input of this certain subject

 • I would love split screen to be included but here is why I don't think it will. You are correct to a certain point but some issues are that halo was much more linear than what destiny is aiming for. Not only would processing power need to be used to render multiple points of view, but also take the info from different guardians you interact with. Also in speaking of points of view, you and your split screen partner would need to stay tethered together because say I'm fighting in the beginning of old Russia and my partner moves to the divide without me. The console then has to render that area and the ai for the enemies not to mention loot drops. Which then brings the question of who the split screen player is. That player might need their own account and what if there is a difference in levels, say a lv 15 and a lv 8. I'm sorry my post probably has many mistakes in grammar and spelling but I'm very tired and going to sleep now. I can edit it later or better explain things that are unclear tomorrow (actually later today, man it's late).

 • Bungie made Destiny to work on PS3 and PS4 is 10x more powerful. It could run 10 of PS3's versions at once (entire games, not just graphics), and Bungie cannot make work it for 4 players on PS4? Halo supported split screen, just like much more open and complex Borderlands, and that was on much weaker hardware. Technical issues clearly aren't the reason for which Bungie scraped split screen. Whatever their reasons were, we should let them know, that respect of fans is much more important, especially at the beginning of their new franchise.

Also, even if this were true, that doesn't address the other issues I pointed out. Finally did Bungie lie or did everyone make the assumption split screen would be there? This is an actual question because nowhere had I seen them say specifically split screen would be included. In the case they specifically said it then yes they didn't keep their promise but I would reserve judgement until I heard their reasoning. If they didn't say it, can you blame them for not including it when it has become a sadly dying trend, and that to include it would take resources away from somewhere else.

There is no other coop-oriented game for consoles (at least not on A+ level) that doesn't have split screen. Literally it's like if Capcom didn't include local vs in next Street Fighter and haven't even said about it. So when game's out, you cannot blame them, right? Also Jason Jones once said that he plays Destiny with his son. Since nobody thought that he gave 5-year-old separate console, with separate TV and separate PS+/Gold, split screen was the best bet.

 • Well then they have not lied to us about split screen. I would love to play split screen with my friends, but if it won't happen it won't happen. The game is social and co-op but in a different way than what we thought. Also I don't think street fighter is a fair comparison because it's an established split screen franchise plus a fighter where it's basically mandatory and much easier done

 • Let me give you sample of preview from feb 2013:
Shared experience is Destiny's most important pillar, a design philosophy Bungie truly believes in. Co-op courses through the veins of the game, its heartbeat pulsing constant connections powered by the studio's new, advanced network technology. "Everything you do in life is more fun if you do it with your friends," Jones says. "Everything you do in life is more fun if there are other people around doing the same thing with you. Imagine the gym, imagine college, imagine those experiences were solitary, that there was nobody there, nobody to check you in, nobody working out next to you. It sounds crazy but that's the experience we've had for decades with these solo video game experiences. That's not the kind of campaign we're building in Destiny. That's not what we want to do."
How does it stand up with what DeeJ posted few days ago?
We wanted to give you full freedom to explore that world without being tethered to another player who would have pulled you off your path and onto theirs. Destiny is all about exploration. From the very beginning, we decided to aim the full firepower of your console at one player. This game is about a personal journey, and we didn't want to make any compromises in rendering it.
They know they lied (or haven't said entire true - if that's what you prefer ;)), that's why they've changed their tone lately. Except that their game's mechanics are still designed to be played in coop. Local multiplayer is as mandatory for coop games on consoles, as it's in fighting games. Is split screen more difficult to make? Sure, but 1) that's why they have 500 000 000$ budget and 2) if it's "not easy to make" doesn't change the fact that it's needed.

 • I just don't see it as so mandatory I guess. When I have people I want to play with, shooters generally aren't our first choice. We prefer playing fighters and racers. Those who really want split screen should try to get it, but as I won't use it personally, and know many who won't either, I'm going to stay out of the battle.
