I'll go very quickly over my first two before I mention the third, because some people are probably sick of me talking about them lol.
1. Super Metroid.
Got a SNES Classic for a birthday a year or so ago, and found myself with a bit of time to play a single player game. Loaded Super Metroid purely because I had heard people saying how good the series was and "the dragon on the front looked cool." Long story short, it became my favourite game, changed the way I view the medium, made me much more particular about the kinds of games I praise/purchase, got me interested in game design, and forced me to rethink what really makes a good game.
2. Dragon Quest Builders.
Didn't really know what to expect, as my only experience with the DQ franchise before this game was an obscure Pokémon-like game from my childhood called Dragon Quest Monsters Joker (another excellent game you should all play) but again, I was blown away. Mostly by its excellent story, and the subtle hints at history, character and lore the game left behind across the experience. DQ Builders 2 is, from a gameplay perspective, superior, but I feel attached to the original for its superior approach to storytelling. If a Dragon Quest Builders 3 comes out one day, and combines the strengths of both games with none of the flaws, it could be a masterpiece, and I'm not exaggerating.
The third game is Dark Souls, specifically its remaster on Switch. I admit, I used to feel like it was just difficult and nothing else, I couldn't get past the Taurus Demon, thought it was the game's fault, gave up, and went back to Dark Souls 3, which at the time I considered a better version of the same game. I was wrong on all points, as I discovered last October when I played Dark Souls Remastered.
It was a rough start. I got stuck on the Capra Demon, then got stuck on the Bell Gargoyles, then got stuck on a giant rat I didn't know I could run past, and took a break for a while. When I eventually returned, Dark Souls Remastered was the only game I played until I completed it, and went up past O and S in NG+. There were several more places I got stuck.
But I fell in love with the music, the boss fights, the world, the characters. I think it's actually the first time I fell in love with a game's soundtrack. It's definitely the first time a game made me cry. And Dark Souls essentially became my "other favourite game."
Definitely a lot more than just "difficult."
And... yet again I wrote a wall of text lmao. Ah well, what can I do?

I’m still planning to get DQB2 eventually. Got sidetracked, though. >.> But, yeah, Dark Souls always has that moment where it just *clicks* and then suddenly you love it. If you go forwards through the series, for the most part it gets progressively easier, so it makes sense going backwards might be a similar experience to the first time playing. I’ve yet to find another game where I’ve had that experience.
I’m still planning to get DQB2 eventually. Got sidetracked, though. >.>
I hope you enjoy it. I feel like I should point out though - the Switch version's online multiplayer isn't great. Kinda laggy and it doesn't let you save for some reason. But other than that it's a great game. Brilliantly funny, too.
But, yeah, Dark Souls always has that moment where it just *clicks* and then suddenly you love it. I would love to see what Lost Izalith would have looked like had it been completed. I still loved that area though. Don't know why everyone else seemed to hate it.

Editado por The First Aifos: 9/3/2019 10:01:28 PMDoes that apply to local multiplayer, too? It’s been so long I couldn’t tell you where it clicked for me. Only thing I can say for certain is it was some time before Anor Londo. I like Lost Izalith too. Not the Bed of Chaos, though.
Does that apply to local multiplayer, too?
Unfortunately, there is no local multiplayer. It's either online or singleplayer. Whether or not that's a problem depends on how much you value local multiplayer. I don't know what it's like on PS4, though. Maybe the connection is better on that platform.
It’s been so long I couldn’t tell you where it clicked for me. Only thing I can say for certain is it was some time before Anor Londo. I like Lost Izalith too. Ny local I mean two Switches in the same room. A lot of Switch games consider that local. See, I don’t mind the Bed of Chaos being gimmicky, I just hate the insta kills (falling off the cliff), amd the fact that the fight doesn’t reset when you die. I definitely agree that the lore’s the best, though!
Ny local I mean two Switches in the same room. A lot of Switch games consider that local.
Ahh. I actually don't know. There is an option for that, but for some reason I haven't tried it.
See, I don’t mind the Bed of Chaos being gimmicky, I just hate the insta kills (falling off the cliff), amd the fact that the fight doesn’t reset when you die. Maybe if I'd fallen off the edge more, I'd feel differently. Yep. Izalith + Demons is tied with The Legend of Artorias the Abysswalker for my favourite Dark Souls lore.
-
For me, it’s either Demons or Sulyvahn. Probably demons, though.
-
From Dark Souls 3, I like Yhorm the Giant best. I also like the ties between the Nameless King, O and S, and Gwynn though.
-
I found Yhorm’s lore cool, but kinda shallow. Like, there wasn’t a lot to it. I didn’t like Nameless King’s lore, personally. I liked that Gwyn’s firstborn was mysterious.
-
That's kinda just Dark Souls 3 all over, though. I mean, it's a good game. But definitely overshadowed by its big brothers (Dark Souls and Bloodborne.) Yhorm's story still managed to affect me, regardless of how little they gave him.
-
True. Sulyvahn’s lore is suprisingly deep, though. I think they poured everything into him, and that’s why the rest is so shallow.
-
I seem to recall a video or article claiming that Sulyvahn was originally going to be the main villain, so you could be right.
-
Personally, I still consider him to be, and that taking him down so early is a clever trope inversion. We see all the evil he’s wrought after he’s gone.
-
It's certainly one perspective. Leaves Soul of Cinder even more dissappointing, though.
-
Yeah, but Soul of Cinder being disappointing isn’t anything new. :p
