• Loved that game & followed it when it was first announce. No game has ever compared to the joy I got while running around as a lightweight medic that just parkoured off walls to toss a syringe to a downed team member while gunning down an enemy. Unfortunately there just wasn't much to the game outside of that so it got boring really quickly.

 •
No game has ever compared to the joy I got while running around as a lightweight medic that just parkoured off walls to toss a syringe to a downed team member while gunning down an enemy.
I know that feel, it's the same class i ran. I've wondered how well the game would do if it was released now, during the time multiplayer only games became popular.

 • A few years back, Bethesda hired Splash Damage and Id Software to make a game, a shooter. In it, they had set out to make a team-based multiplayer shooter in which one side would try and complete a set of objectives, while another worked to stop the enemy team. Back in the previous gen, that game was made. This game is called Brink. Story:
The story behind it is that it was a bear-future where mankind built this one utopian floating city called the Ark. Sometime after it's completion, the world was hit with major flooding, and the ark got cut off from the mainland as it sunk under the seas. Eventually survivors began to sail in, finding the Ark and being allowed to dock on it and live there. Their crafts were eventually modified to become new parts of the Ark. It's not the best job done, but it creates housing for the new citizens The Ark wasn't built to sustain this many people. Drinkable water and food are now an issue, civil unrest is up. All attempts at trying to contact the outside have stopped. A man named Shen, living out in the shanties, has started a resistance movement, hoping to reopen communications, and to also find some amount of land still above water. By the time you play, the city is on the brink of war between the Security forces of the city and Shen's Resistance. You have to make a choice: Join the Security team and "save the ark," or join the Resistance and "Escape the Ark."
Your character:
After signing into a faction, you build your first character. You can build more characters later on. The first details you add to your character are about their hair, their face, their voice, and some other things. You can't change these details once you confirm them. What you can change is their body type, their outfits, and I think their tattoos. By leveling that character, you unlock outfit parts and body types.
Body types and parkour:
Brink focused heavily on the SMART system. "Smooth Movement Across Random Terrain." By holding sprint, your character would automatically work to pass over or around any obstacle in their way, as long their body type allowed it. The way body types work are as follows: -Light: Lowest health, can't use most guns, but has full access to all SMART abilities. -Medium: moderate health, access to most guns, and can do a fair sum of parkour moves. -Heavy: high health, can use every gun in the game, but all they really do is vault over things at waist height.
Classes:
While you have no weapon limits, the class you play as (as well as your character's level) will affect what abilities you can use. Your class will also determine what objectives you can play, outside of escorting an EV, capturing a point, shouting at an escort to move, or handing an item of importance. There are four classes: -Medic: self-explanatory. Best noted for tossing around syringes to downed players, so that they can revive themselves. In escort missions, they need to keep the escort healed in order for him to be able to walk. -Soldier: the frontline fighter. They carry special grenades designed to do high damage and whatnot. They also carry around C4 charges to blow open doors with. -Engineers: the most objective fellows. They're noted for being able to set down devices such turrets when it comes to abilities. Besides that, only they can repair things, disarm C4, and build special objectives. -Operatives: basically spies. They carry things to disrupt abilities and device (namely turrets), and help them go unseen in battle. With their PDAs, they can hack specific objectives.
Multiplayer:
The entire game is a set of stories for both sides. When loading into a map, your leader will give a briefing based on the part of story tied to that map. When the map loads, a cutscene will occur in which your character listens to two AI soldiers argue about the morality of their mission, or get information from a spy. Each map will require about three objectives. Typically it involves the attacking team trying to blast their way to an objective which they need to steal/escort out of there. Each map has a different combination, as each map is a different part of the story. Sometimes you'll also have a few side objectives that you can complete. For the most part they're just building or destroying shortcuts for your team. There was talk of them implementing a commander AI who would give out side missions depending on how the battle was going, and the team comp, but this never seemed to be implemented.
• Basically overwatch with more customization, titanfall with more restrained wallrunning, and all around less polished.
