I think this sort of thing is kinda what Bungie has in mind for Destiny 2. If you look up concept art for the sequel, one of the images is a burning traveler surrounded by a burning landscape...

They were all scrapped concept artworks done by one of the artists. Wasn't sure who done it but Evade from DestinyGuides on youtube has that video on his channel

Still, I have no doubt they're gonna go for a kind of halo 2 setting were they will battle us in our own backyard, although we're kinda doing that already lol
