There's also evidence of it leaving the Eliksni immediately when shit hit the fan. The Books of Sorrow also state Oryx had been chasing it for a long while, jumping from civilization to civilization hunting it and other agents of the Light.
The Traveler is a -blam!-ing coward; just because it considered standing up for a change doesn't change that fact. Doesn't help the Traveler's case that Rasputin predicted its departure and had guns primed and ready to go if it ran.

Oryx spent hundred if not thousands of years killing races, that's hardly chasing. Rasputin also did not attack the Traveller because it was leaving. Rasputin was the one who abandoned humanity. He couldn't care less about our survival. His last acts were to disable counter force and population protection objectives, then he shut down - "I survived alone. I cast off the shield and I shrugged my shoulders so that the billions fell off me down into the ash."
I am declaring YUGA SUNDOWN effective on receipt (epoch reach/FORCECON variant). Cancel counterforce objectives. Cancel population protection objectives. Format moral structures for MIDNIGHT EXIGENT. Execute long hold for reactivation.
and
IT is alone and IT is strong and IT won. Even over the gardener and she held power beyond me but the gardener did not shrug and make herself alone. IT always wins.
Read the very last line that I quoted. Rasputin is pretty clearly saying the reason the Traveller lost is because she wouldn't abandon humanity like he did.
