let's get some elementary properties straight: Twitch skill is not gun skill. Accuracy is. Lower TTK makes a more competitive shooter. Higher TTK lowers skill gap. Halo had a low TTK and high (base) mobility meaning you had to retain accuracy while you and you're opponent were strafing at full mobility (old Bungie halos) In destiny ttw could kill consistently in half a second and thorn could two shot. Also, you lose mobility while aiming so you don't have to compensate for your own movement to retain accuracy. Destiny also has unreasonably high aim assist even for a console shooter. I attribute the loss of player base from vanilla destiny to now to the year one multiplayer. In short, it had a lower skill gap than cod. If you weren't one-shotting with supers/specials/other bullshit, then you were two shotting with a weapon with a half second TTK. It's the formula for a low skill gap. Turn it into a twitch shooter so accuracy barely matters (it can't when TTK's are .5 seconds or one shots) to allow poor shooter players to feel good about themselves and stay with the game. Activision's been doing it for years with cod and now bungie has sold out. Really there just needs to be a legendaries only no supers playlist where you don't start with special and a primary kills drops a special package on their body that grants a single special shot. ... But that would have a skill gap that most destiny players play destiny to avoid.

    CS Go might have the fastest TTK for any FPS game and it's arguably the most competitive game out today. I'm not saying games with low TTKs aren't competitive. I've been playing bungie games since Halo 2 and I enjoyed Halo 3 much more than all of the "better" CoD installments. All I'm saying is low TTK games can still have large skill gaps

    Gunfighting with MIDA and Grasp of Malok does not take skill. 21 shots in the MIDA clip means you can pre-fire every day, all day with perfect accuracy. You also cannot compare Halo w/ Destiny because of perfect hipfire accuracy at all ranges. Competitive Halo (Halo 3 or Halo 2 at least, never played 4 or odst) revolved around nades, flush them out, hipfire bodyshot with sniper, finish with BR. Might have a longer TTK, but not really more skillful if we're talking about accuracy. Most competitive kills happened in 3 pulls of the trigger, or 4 if you didn't have a sniper.

  • I play destiny solely because it had slower ttk for primary weapons and I like to actually be able to react and turn on a guy, Not just die immediately. Although people overuse special weapons so that doesn't happen as much as I would like.

  • Great shooters allow good players to win even if they don't get the first shot. Especially in halo reach (or any bungie halo) you could have someone jump you, but if their strafe and reticle regulation was off at all you could still out-play them. That's why inta-kills suck. Horrible players are still given a chance based on map layout/convoluted spawns where they can get the first shot on a good player without really needing to do anything.

  • It's common knowledge. Been for years and years. But this is the destiny community. Those who understand left a while ago. The vast majority who are still playing are oblivious to simple design properties, seemingly because they are new to the shooter genre or came straight from cod.
