Cuz the world is flat, and the lava has to be contained somehow, like you said. The world is on one side of the cube, the lava is inside.

If the earth is a ball that spins at 1000 mph, how does the water not fly off? Gravity? That pulls things down, so the water would just fall off the earth anyway. So the earth must be flat, otherwise all the water would fall off.
