That's cute. A super-special expose on... data centres. Really? Dedicated servers won't fix Destiny's problems for anyone but the people geographically close to a data centre. Even then, it'll be a player advantage, not a fix - inconsistent connections cause as much problems with client -> server networking as they do with peer-to-peer. QuakeWorld was released twenty years ago this December. And games companies are still trying to minimise the effects of player warp.

  • It's an example of how Activision handles their game compared to wargaming. Zero dedicated servers from a multi-billion dollar publisher vs a multi million dollar developer/publisher that uses dedicated servers for their games. Wargaming has 3 games on pc and and 1 on tablet and 1 game on xbone/360 with shared servers and 1 game on ps4. All their games have servers on 4 or 5 continents per game. World of tanks xbox version has US East US West, and Europe.

  • So you want a publisher to invest in dedicated servers for a first time IP, and choose a company with multiple tried-and-tested IPs, with a successful world-wide FTP model, as justification for the extra expenditure? Um. 'Okay.' Perhaps, for Destiny 2, dedicated servers might be justifiable. Particularly if both Microsoft and Sony pull their heads out of their collective arses, and agree to co-habit. You'll still be marginalizing players who aren't geographically close to a data centre, and you'll still be giving an unfair advantage to anyone close-by to one. In a game that features one-hit-kill snipers. Dedicated servers are entirely the best solution.

  • Small time IP's it's entirely optional to use dedicated servers but Activision advertised Destiny everywhere and anywhere they could. All their budgeting went straight towards advertising the game and it seems like dedicated servers just became a after thought when they saw the amount of money they were getting back in return and the amount of players playing the game, that it'd be too costly to invest in servers for everyone. Activision had the opportunity to use in house Microsoft servers but they declined the offer because they have to pay for the use of Microsoft servers. I have no idea why destiny doesn't have dedicated servers on ps4 or ps3 because Sony and Activision made a deal. If destiny 2 still doesn't have dedicated servers I really don't think it's going to sell well at all when every other triple A multi-player game has dedicated servers.

  • (Sony paid for the advertising.) Sorry, did you have a point amongst all that?
