Hello Everyone, The community have created a document which we believe is critical for the next Halo. There were lots of people involved and took weeks, but after several reviews we finally have the final version for everyone to see.
This document was sent to over 50 employees at 343i, anyone from a coder to Bonnie Ross the general manager, and will also arrive at the physical building at 343i.
We encourage a good discussion about the document and PLEASE, I can't stress this enough, PLEASE make an effort to read the entire document. That way we do not go over things that have already been discussed. If you have any additional questions, comments or concerns we would love to hear and will do our best clear anything up. We would love to get additional support and trying is better than not.
Cheers!
Go ahead and click that Favorite button please, it won't bite :)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My own thoughts:
While very thorough and well written, I am dismayed by the fact that the sources for why the community prefers "this" over "that" is specifically from Waypoint itself, leading to very biased polls.
A lot of the ideas are not bad, but they deserve to return as toggle options, not absolutes.
Anyway, maybe this will also show the Bungie Community that the Vocal Majority does not like 343i's choices or even them themselves at Waypoint.

Meh. I won't buy another Halo even if... well, for any reason. Halo ended at 3 for me. ODST and Reach are great for what they are (a side story to compliment the main story, and a prequel), but the MC needs to simply be left floating in space. It's the perfect ending for the perfect warrior. There doesn't need to be "closure", simply the implications of "Wake me, when you need me." is enough to know that the Chief will be ready whenever humanity needs him again. We definitely didn't need the emotional trainwreck that 3fail3 has made him out to be. "But we're exploring his human side!!!!!!" Bullshit. The Spartans were created to be cold, unflinching killers. That's why they could accomplish more than even whole platoons of regular Marines, because they're unfeeling super-soldiers. I don't need the Chief to grow a vagina and start blubbering as Cortana dies. I don't need the Chief to have an emotional breakdown, and I sure as hell don't need him becoming a chatty cathy simply because he woke up from a nap. 3fail3 and this "new trilogy" should have never been conceived.

*Sees Halo 3 mentioned as being used as something to refer to for Halo 5's development* Not reading anymore of it.

Lol, "The competitive community". WHAT WE NEED ARE MORE SCARAB BATTLES!

Edited by Cypher Alpha: 11/16/2013 7:55:36 AMSo all this Community Letter was saying is "make a Halo 3 clone, we hate any kind of change whatsoever"? It does have some good points but they seriously seem not to be able to tell when a certain new feature adds to the depth of the game and improves the gameplay and flow. The points I agree with are: - Increased Difficulty - Dynamic Aim Assist (seems interesting but not sure how it'll work out if implemented) - Flinch removed, Descope returned - 12 second weapon despawn removed, 30+ weapon despawn returned - Personal and Random Ordnance Drops removed, Weapons-on-Map returned - Flag auto pick-up, carrier waypoint and inability to drop removed, Juggling ability and throwing returned - Return of Assault gametype - Visible Ranks & Social Split returned - Removal of Perks However, I disagree with these: - Sprint Removed - Oddball throwing removed, “R” to ‘drop at your feet’ returned - Removal of Armor Abilities Concerning Sprinting, they said it was a bad gameplay mechanic because you could just sprint to the opponent who, having just killed you from the previous engagement and therefore has his shields down, and kill him. "Trading kills". What really was causing the problem was the Instant Respawn (which I'm surprised they didn't mention), not the Sprint, especially since the maps have already been scaled to accommodate sprinting. Instant Respawning shouldn't be in Competitive Matchmaking (but still toggle-able for Custom Games). The only thing I would like to be changed about Sprint is to reduce the amount of time Spartans can sprint for. As for map scaling, it just boils down to map design now, and how well 343i can design maps. Sprint should be made toggle-able too, for different variants of Slayer. As for Oddball Throwing, I don't see why it should be removed. I don't see how this new feature turns Oddball "into something that resembles an extremely barbaric pass-time with no order or intelligence". That's nonsense. The only thing that should be removed (which again I'm not sure why they didn't bring up) is the random Oddball spawn locations. If the Oddball instantly spawns in the centre of the map again if an opponent throws it off the map, the enemy team won't be at any advantage and it will discourage them from throwing the ball off the map. Still, Oddball Throwing should be made toggle-able, but still be featured in Competitive Matchmaking. Why do people (at least all the so-called "hardcore 'I've-been-there-since-CE' Halo fans") hate Armor Abilities so much? Everybody still has the same Armor Abilities to choose from, it still is an even battlefield. I really fail to understand what is so bad about Armor Abilities. The only issue right now is balancing the AAs. The AAs feel more balanced in Halo 4 than they were in Halo: Reach but they still need some tweaking to get right. Seriously though, all this letter said was to make Halo 5 a Halo 3 replica. They didn't propose any new gameplay mechanics but only told 343i to keep removing new features.

They probably got banned for life for 2000+ years.
-
Release Halo 3 clones yearly. The competitive community hates change. Therefore, they will continually buy it. Satisfied community and tons of money.
-
Has 343 answered anything to this yet?
-
I don't care for AA's but sprint needs to stay. Would it really make sense for a super soldier capable of running +45 mph to just walk around? Albeit it should be somewhat stoppable for gameplay purposes. And what exactly is being discussed here? What we want for Halo 5? P.S I just want to stay on topic.

You stupid spag. Waypointers would never be this smart to make that sort of document. It was made by Beyond Entertainment.
-
Not even gonna bother reading, Waypoint mods would never allow anything on there that sways from Halo 4 to the original shooter.
-
Good god that was beautiful. If 343i -blam!-s up with Halo 5 then Halo is truly dead.

Edited by DE4THINC4RN4TE: 11/15/2013 5:21:32 PMI agree with this, except for the bit about Armor Abilities. They make things fun as hell. The combat is varied and everyone is on equal ground. (If you use Reach's system for AA's.) Just make a mix of "Competitive" and "Ability" gametypes so we can have both. This was not the best written piece, but it kinda got the point across.

Oddball throwing was cool, hopefully that doesn't get token out.

It's all very well that people give multiplayer so much attention, but it'd be nice if they expanded that petition to include campaign and Forge/Customs feedback too (as Sandtrap said). Josh Holmes stated that Halo 4's Terminals couldn't be included in the main game because of issues with disk space, as Halo 4 pushed the 360 to its limits. With next-gen technology, this should hopefully not be a problem which will allow for a much more integrated experience when it comes to the various aspects of the story. Campaign missions themselves should have more open playspaces with various ways to approach missions, ala Silent Cartographer (which, to this day, remains one of my favourite missions of all time). So many next-gen games are opting for a more open world theme, it'd be nice to see Halo follow suit and build on what ODST put in motion with the hub of New Mombasa. Halo 4 captured the scale of Forerunner environments perfectly, but primarily through vistas and inaccessible regions. It'd be great to actually look at something far off in the distance and go there. More unique AI enemies with more distinctive combat roles and behaviours, like the Covenant in Halo CE, would be nice. Bring me back my Goldies from CE and I'll love them forever. New forms of Prometheans would be nice too rather than simply giving each 'rank' a minor cosmetic change. Imagine going up against this beast! 343 has plenty of other designs to work off as well which could make for interesting, dynamic and varied combat encounters - E, H, L and N in particular look really cool. Get rid of the damn 'return to battlefield' countdown. Sure, they can be bypassed, and it seems counter-productive to limit the player, but some of the most fun campaign tricking is getting out of the maps and seeing what lies beyond. More flora and fauna would be nice too. Spartan Assault had a mission where you had to navigate through a whole labyrinthine forest of alien plants to kill Sangheili generals which made for some really interesting combat, I'd love to see something like this in Halo 5. Requiem was supposed to have more ambient life as well, like the flying stingray from the E3 2012 demo that was unfortunately cut. All I can be bothered to type right now...

This just in: Thousands of Halo WayPoint users have been banned for a negative nonconstructive letter that intended to offend 343 Industries

Edited by FairlySplendid: 11/14/2013 5:56:14 AMHeh.... After doing some soul-searching this year I came to the conclusion that the core, die-hard Halo community really does just want a new Halo 3 every other year with updated graphics. Most people joking refer to this as Halo 3.5. Sure, they may try and sell it another way or rationalize it or maybe even talk out both sides of their mouths to seem diplomatic about it..... but at the end of the day they want Halo 3. As now, an outsider looking in, I say give it to them. Only because I suspect that once they have it in their hands, they'll realize that Halo 3 was a "time and a place" in more ways than one. It will never be the same. They're chasing the dragon.

Just because Waypoint runs like shit on my phone. Is it a huge letter complaining about multiplayer?
-
.5 the second game I had ever played was me (recruit) and my one ally (warrant officer) against 4 inheritors. Completely unfair.
-
I can pretty much agree with everything brought up, although I think other areas such as Forge especially should have recieved some attention. Unless they are planning to do the same with the other aspects.
-
Idk if this was mentioned, but 343 needs to release a beta this time.
-
Ok, check the competitive community issues hopefully being brought to the attention of 343. Now then, let's discuss some other communities shall we? Forge, Customs, and Campaign?
-
So basically everyone wants a halo 3 replica?
-
Edited by Legend To None: 11/13/2013 10:19:51 AMI disagree with juggling but I like throwing the flag.In Halo 3 there wasn't one thing I hated more than seeing a teammate or enemy juggling the flag or just throwing it ahead, letting then know our escape, hearing "Flag dropped",Flag Taken"x50. There is no skill in holding X and pressing left trigger.

And I thought waypoint was full of idiots
