Never buying silver or any other ingame 'currency'.
People who buy that shit are creating an environment for greedy asshats who want us to throw money at the screen.
Clarification: I don't mind adults spending their money on things. If Bungie sells something for a fixed price and people are stupid enough to shell out money, so be it. I still find that questionable, because this one thing is awfully expensive compared to the cost of a whole game.
What I find criminal is to hide the real cost of things behind a RNG system that makes you accept a much higher cost because you don't get told the probability of items. Bungie just tells us which items we get by chance without any method to evaluate the potential price tag! That's not a fair buissines tactic.
IGN needed around 100$ to get all items from the FotL packages. That's the price of the whole vanilla game plus HoW and CE. Do you think that's an incentive for Bungie to bring us more planets, cutscenes and missions, or will they make more superfluous 'events' to sell you even more of that wonderbag stuff?
Would you buy any good in a shop where you have to pay first and then roll on a secret loot table? You want some german beer and get 5x root beer and some bread instead? Would you pay until you got your real beer?
Thanks for the intense discussion. Never tought this would go that far.
Edit: Corrected a spelling error. (I am german. Hints on how to write something correctly are appreciated.)

Edited by Cankle J: 10/28/2016 5:06:36 PMSo since I threw some money at my screen should I Dislike this post? Ok.
-
I've spent over $300 on silver... Jelly runs deep it seems
-
I haven't even touched the free silver they gave me a year ago. I just don't care about it.
-
I still have my original 400 silver that was given to me.
-
As long as it stays cosmetic only then who cares? After 2500 hours playing this game i don't mind paying for something i will enjoy.

If I have money left over from another purchase, I'll buy silver.
-
I regrettably paid 5 dollars on silver for loot boxes. What did I get - rare Engram mask - legendary Engram mask - exotic Engram mask I was ready to kill myself, I'm never spending money on chance drops again.
-
I only needed to pay $30 for everything I wanted. I haven't gotten any duplicates minus one mask either. It sucks that people are having worse luck.
-
I like
-
I'll spend 5 bucks every now and then. But why not? If I enjoy the game, then I don't mind spending more cash. They are doing a fantastic job with this game, and my hard earned cash is well spent if I invest it into dumb cosmetics.

I would totally buy the ghost ghost. But a package for a 2% chance? Um no.

I have bought silver, and to be honest, I apologize to the community for doing so. My problem is this. I bought some silver, got some treasure packages and got a bunch of the new stuff. Yay, right? No. I think it is bullshit, and after doing the quests for the ONE treasure you can earn in game, the short but annoying quest for ONE treasure. I got nothing. I mean I got something, but it was in no way a reward worth the time put in to the quest chain. And that got me thinking about the people who don't spend any money. Content obfuscated by a pay wall, one month after a PAID expansion, which, while cool, was a tad over priced for the amount of content that it added to the game. Because there is no matchmaking for end game activities, a lot of players are paying for shit they will never actually see. And I get it, the whole point is to coordinate with friends, do things as a team. I don't disagree with that aspect. I just kind of feel like there needs to be some middle ground. So yeah, I am sorry to all of you for actually supporting this micro transaction system. I really do think it detracts from what players are able to experience just by playing the game they paid for. I won't be buying anymore silver, and I won't be supporting any future updates that require it to have access to the fancy loot.
-
The only time I spend money in a game is when I KNOW and am GUARANTEED to get what I am paying for. Like Warframe, or Clash of Clans. I only spend money when I know it's worth it and I will use what I buy

Never bought silver, never will.

Edited by Lo Mein Beyond: 10/28/2016 4:09:44 PMBungie is a business whose primary mandate is to generate revenue/profit/make money. There is nothing "criminal" about the way they promote their product. Is it moral and ethical to employ the RNG system when it comes to micro transaction sales? That's a matter of subjective opinion. At the end of the day, the value of each item offered through micro transaction is placed upon by the individual consumer. Whereas one person may believe that they can justify dishing out hundreds of dollars for a certain item (say Ghost Ghost for example), another person may not be willing to spend a cent on it simply because he or she has no interest in it, therefore finding no value in that particular merchandise. The bottom line is that Bungie in no shape or form has ever forced people to pay for micro transactions. It is merely an option available for those who CHOOSE to be consumers. It is like the real world out there. Aside from essential items for survival, we all make the conscious decision to make our daily purchases. These microtransaction items are not essential towards gameplay and are cosmetic in nature, so it is your choice whether to indulge. With that being said, these type of marketing strategies (RNG and randomized packaging) does in a sense affect people (young and old) negatively as it promotes gambling behaviour. It's like opening booster packs for those card games where you're not guaranteed fixed content. But once again, at the end of the day it is a marketing strategy that has been long employed before online micro transactions came into existence. The ultimate choice lies, and has always laid, in the hands of the consumer.

Only silver I've used is the free silver you get haha

Only money i ever spent is for the new content y1-y3 but all that in game purchases.. yaaaa right!
-
It's supporting a game you like, not them just being greedy asshats. Things cost money to make, you want more content? They need a way to fund it. Sick of people bitching about silver and the cost of DLC. You act like inflation doesn't exist. If you want more content without making additional purchases then game prices are going to increase to $100 to $150.
-
I don't have a problem with having an event in game that you have to pay for. My problem with festival of the lost though is that I want new strikes, missions,Crucible maps, etc., not a bunch of emotes and masks. Why not charge $5.00 for a new strike or even a couple of missions or something, or a new questline that let's you earn the ornaments and gives you a story behind things. For example, the bad juju ornaments, why not have a quest with a new mission or two that takes place on crucible maps or something? I know it would be more effort by bungie, but I want experiences, I will pay money for new gaming experiences, not for being able to dance like a pop star. I think more people would buy this because it's a new experience. I would feel comfortable paying for this kind if dlc.
-
I don't think it's "wrong" to have silver in the game and I don't care what people spend their money on. But when I see posts calling out bungie because they spent $50 and didn't get the RNG item they wanted, that's on them.

I will never buy any shit like this, they make enough money from us
