So I've been thinking about how bullshit the correlation between school shootings and video games is and I think I've realized something
The news networks themselves have basically been creating a guide on how to shoot up a populated area ever since columbine. Not only that, but the individuals who carry out the shootings are turned into national icons for months at a time.
Think about it, the media gives in depth coverage on the weapons used, the modifications to the weapons, the strategies utilized, methods of concealment, optimal times for the act, etc
Hell they even make a damn leaderboard comparing all of the different shootings after the fact like this is a competition. They advertise the shooters to such an extent that they may as well be telling people that they'll be famous if they kill some kids at school.
EDIT: Id like it to be known that I'm not saying the media is the cause, I'm just pointing out how easy it is to carry out a mass shooting because of them

Edited by Tony: 3/31/2015 7:44:43 AMPlus every murderer looks at a potential place to shoot up and they all have one thing in common ... No guns allowed i.e. Virginia tech; columbine; aurora; sandy hook; etc.

Correction:- Mass murder is the American dream
-
The best way to stop school shootings is to stop reporting on them.
-
Yeah the media is terrible. Only reports what it wants
-
Nahh, there are better guides on the internet.
Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single victim of Columbine? Disturbed people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody. -Not Morgan Freeman
No, this is wrong. The media plays very little into the overall motivation for why school shootings occur. The overwhelmingly predominant reason people have gone on sprees like those is revenge. The perpetrators were, or believed they were, wronged or victimised in some way (such as being victims of bullying, as the Columbine shooters were) by others. By the way, playing violent video games is linked to increased aggression, which obviously doesn't mean they cause people to go on killing sprees, but probably increase the risk of that happening.

No have wet dreams about the American media

Edited by JesusOfSuburbia: 3/31/2015 2:48:21 AMWe rarely learn anything useful about weapons and what not. There was a shooting on a naval base around the time of Sandyhook, and the one media source said the perpetrator was using "an AR-15 shotgun" or some bullshit. I'll go find a picture and edit. The media is a cancer. It's all about ratings anymore. It's gotten so bad that even Anchorman 2, a Will Ferrel movie that is in no way serious, was able to mock it accurately. Edit: Found it: https://www.google.com/search?q=ar15+shotgun+news&tbm=isch&tbs=simg:CAQSrwEJRATLGqdtAXUamgELELCMpwgahwEKOggCEhT6D7AJqxCbD5UJrxWAEMMJmg_15GhogCJHOCd8ncWPQqtG3Ryd1s06A95bw3wM2hifitfL6O0cKSQgDEhOZDJgMvgO_1Ab0DH7sM7AiXBO0IGjCCo0JB34h3_1voIR1VdvusSDy612QiL4i24zqp_1rX9TYPfi6_1dAO2b9cus-CKI94GkMCxCOrv4IGgAMIXKz9Mf_192nD&sa=X&ei=zAoaVbDoKMKIsQT9noDoDw&ved=0CBkQ2A4oAQ&biw=320&bih=418

I hate watching the news these days. Imagine how many school shootings games prevented. Games let people act out their desires, that they wouldn't normally do. imagine how many deviants there are just wanting to do the sickest things, and games are all thats stopping them. News media on the other hand is evil to begin with.

You rarely hear about random everyday people heros that's for sure.
