Do you guys agree with Derek?
He's PvP lead if you guys didn't know.
I just like how direct he is about this.

I 100% agree with him. Getting to the lighthouse is supposed to be an achievement, not something you can quickly do every weekend with your mates over a few pints. Trials was always advertised for the best of the best not above average.

F@$king love it!!

Edited by Lord Tronic: 10/24/2016 4:25:51 PMIf it is intended that average players don't go to the lighthouse why does bungie allow carries?
-
What pisses me off is how the best weapons in the game are only available to those who are already amazing. This means they can just further pubstomp anyone not 'good enough' for trials.
-
Its a great mind set. The reality is that I'm getting sniped by a warlock with a matador and the dude at spawn is head glitching with a Mida. Not really salty, just pointing out that the concept is great, but the execution is lacking.

Trials is broken. I'm not an a elitist or anything but back in Y1 when trials first dropped, I'd be able to go flawless here and there. But ever since Y2/Y3 I could barely make it to the lighthouse. If you check how many times I've gone flawless, most if not all my wins were in Y1. So yeah trials is broken, it needs an actual ranking system to at least try and pair you with someone of the same skill. It doesn't make sense for me or anyone else to be automatically put up against try hards on the first, second or third game. People can believe what they want but trials definitely needs to be reworked.

The best to the lighthouse agreed (never been myself) tho that it doesn't need a fix with all the lag and cheaters is a blind mans reaction.

All these fkn people and their feelings nowadays.
fk em
I agree with him. Im not going to make the Lighthouse, I am fine with that, I have lots of good guns

Edited by Whysummondemons: 10/24/2016 2:53:11 PMSo disabled people also shouldn't be allowed an education. You know because they're below average. Let me change my analogy a bit. --- So a person with no arms shouldn't be able to eat a steak he paid for?

Edited by El Jefe: 10/24/2016 4:51:17 PMNope. He can go @&)@*^%# himself.
lets see if I get banned again
Edited by csauer52: 10/24/2016 4:55:36 PMI'm a Destiny newb so clearly not experienced enough to comment with my opinion however this was classic from that thread: @_mantis_ so how are players like me expect to enjoy destiny when trials is rigged? I deserve to get to the lighthouse one time... He "deserves" to get there dammit! Just like ALL millenials, they are entitled to everything and be dammed if they actually need to work for something in their lives. This is a perfect example of why participation trophies are a bad idea. The notion of rewarding folks just for participating creates an unrealistic expectation that all you need to do is show up and everything will simply be handed to you. What a bunch of whiners.... By all means, there should definitely be a reward system where only the best of the best are given the prize. That's life afterall.... I'll likely never see it in Destiny but I'm ok with that, I get my rewards on the powerlifting platform where I know I'm among the elite in the entire country. Oh and fwiw, I worked my tail off to get there. It happened with hard work, not by going on the powerlifting message boards and petitioning the governing body to change the regulations to suit me....

At least he's clear minded when it comes to how Trials works. Everything else can use an adjustment.
-
The only problem I have with Trials is that teams going for their ninth win should not be matched with people going for their first or second or whatever. Teams should be matched on what win they're on first and then skill second. Getting destroyed is way less frustrating if you don't see that they get sent to the lighthouse when you're on your first game.
-
for those of us that cant see twitter at work, what does it say?
-
I wonder if Mr. Derek has ever been to the lighthouse.
-
Works for me. Seemed implied from the very start of Trials, but hey, that's just my read on it.
-
I'd do trials but I don't have a team
-
Edited by xpctR3sistanc3: 10/24/2016 4:27:32 PMIt is nice to see them actually address something directly. As for fairness or whatever, I don't really care. I suck at Trials & haven't messed with it since my [carried] trip to the Lighthouse in year 1. I have seen a lot of questionable videos from ToO that look like blatant cheating, but that's why I avoid it. While I do still suck at PVP, I am a hell of a lot better than I was in year 1. I'll hop in on both systems sometime in the near future, just for the book unlock.

Here's another thought about trials: Right now, Trials is the least competitive game mode for every pro team out there because of missing SBMM. Every good player knows this simple fact. Why is the only game mode that can be considered as "competitive" the least competitive game mode for the best players?
-
I wish he was direct about: Guarantee carries posts, then pay, then flawless with zero kills. That scenario intrigues me. Guess you have to Git Gud to win without kills, which in turn means you're above average, I guess. I do agree that you have to be above average IF you are winning with kills.
-
Well, as it stands, unless you grind the every-living crap out of Trials, you're a Streamer that somehow manages to get host in every single game, or you're just really, really lucky, you aren't making it to the Lighthouse. It isn't for the best players, it's for the elite that have elite connections.
-
Anyone can get there tbh, you just need friends and persistence, I usually have to start over 4 or 5 times each time I run flawless.
-
I agree. What's not to agree with?
-
So, the entire intention of matchmaking in trials is to keep average players out of the lighthouse and allow the top 5% (and those that are carried by them) multiple trips each week. I do not have a problem with the activity being hard, but it is intentionally being manipulated to make it harder than it should by not allowing a random pairing with a team that might be beatable by a group of average players. I feel any goal in a video game should be attainable with some practice and patience, for some trials is attainable, but for most the lighthouse will never be seen because the tournament is rigged in the favor of the elite...as intended.

Trials isn't perfect by any means, but it's hands down my favorite part of destiny, and for the most part, is the only reason I play. I'm no great player either, but honestly, it doesn't take world beaters, just a team that communicates well, has solid shots, and most importantly limits the mistakes and foolish plays. Beaten sooo many teams that I have no business beating in terms of skill, just by limiting mistakes, and not giving them easy kills. Not camping and waiting like a bunch of lemmings, but simply not giving the opposing teams easy clean targets. Map awareness and player placement can make up for alot of shortcomings. Takes a lot of practice and patience tho, especially if you come into destiny with a low skill level, or lack of past pvp experience. It can be done tho, I've got a buddy whose only pvp experience before destiny was some very light CoD. Average player AT BEST, and over time, has earned himself probably close to 20 lighthouse trips mainly through hard work. Seems like the majority of folks who find Dereks tweet offensive are those who aren't willing to put forth the effort to improve their game.
