Yes, this is another Khvostov post. However, I'm not complaining about it, indeed I quite like it. But looking over the forums I have noticed complaints about the 'uselessness' of the burst/semi-auto fire modes.
Personally, I disagree with the idea that these modes are 'useless'. But looking at it objectively, I do have to concede that the small boosts to impact and range these modes offer don't make them stand out enough to give people reason to use them over the 'ease of use' you get from the full auto mode. And so I thought about how to make each mode unique...
Firstly, I think that the impact/range boosts you get choosing burst/semi-auto over full auto need to be doubled. (No, not double the total impact but if pulse mode at 450rpm does 3 points more damage than full-auto it should be doubled to 6 points) These small increases would, in my opinion, start to make which fire mode you use a real choice.
Next, it should be remembered that auto-rifles have the lowest precision damage modifier and scouts the highest. As such I think each fire mode should give the modifier that applies to it's core class.
I think the above two changes would be enough to make the pulse/semi-auto modes more viable, but I have one last idea that could truly give the Khvostov it's place in the exotic pantheon: intrinsic fire mode perks. Give each fire mode an additional ability to truly give each mode a reason and situation to be used. For example I think full-auto should have crowd control, burst should have headseeker and semi-auto should have firefly.
And so those are my ideas on how to make Khvostov harder to pass over.

Loving the khostov here too. Used it in rumble supremacy the other day and did really well. Not sure why it's getting such hate

Burst = useless Semi = -blam!-in' useless Khostovovovov is ok. But hardly worth an exotic slot.......
-
I was afraid this would happen with this gun. It should be programmed to behave like a scout in semi auto mode and like a pulse in burst fire mode. Instead, it acts like an auto being used by someone with a very selective trigger finger and that inherently makes the gun useless.

Ia Ia Cthulhu fhtagn!

I like the Kvostov. It's fun to use but it is lacking in PvP. The three fire modes don't have a good time to kill. It puts out less dps then the doctrine of passing and the grasp of malok. And I have yet to get a kill with the semi auto in PvP. I'd like to see a damage buff against guardians. And it would be awesome if you could switch fire modes without going into the menu. Like clicking a thumb stick or something.

It's not even just the ease of use, with semi auto literally the only thing you are achieving is an overall lowering of your DPS. The stat boost you get from selecting fire modes is negligible at the very best. Even on full auto and the right perks it's still lacking the DPS needed to consistently kill full health guardians in the Crucible. IMO semi auto should knock the magazine size down to 20-25, while raising the impact and range up to something at least resembling a scout rifle. As it stands you're better off throwing rocks than using it

Semi auto is a freakin joke!!!
-
The gun sucks, not worth the exotic slot
-
In my opinion I agree that the different firing modes should be attuned to their core attributes also I've been using all the firing modes and think they are great because we now have a gun that is three in one so that we don't have to switch to a scout rifle or pulse all we have to do is switch the firing mode on the gun
-
I like it. Bump
-
It's not worth the exotic slot. Crap damage no matter what mode you use. Extremely crap damage in Pvp. It's just not good.
-
I'm telling you khovostov is gonna be the most over used weapon in year 3

Edited by sister-hawk: 9/25/2016 11:19:42 PMPersonally I prefer the burst mode over full auto, and I normally don't like pulse rifles. Still gives good dps but it's a little easier to control and less wasteful on ammo. With as much as the community clamors for the GoM, you'd think they'd be all over it. The problem with the semi-auto mode is it's just too fast, especially on 900 rpm. Unless you're just a robot, it's impossible to keep consistent or even achieve the optimal rof. Putting it on that mode needs to drop the rof a fair amount (and increase impact to match of course) so it's actually practical to use, in addition to a much more significant range boost. Even on 450 rpm, I feel like my trigger finger is going to snap off after just a few minutes. There's a reason why people usually don't bother with the highest rof scouts unless they have full auto.

Still haven't gotten. I'm not too worried about it. I'll pick it up the parts when I feel like it or when pass by them.
-
Who cares it's trash, just use a legendary and be way more effective
-
I would say 1)fix the burst and semi so they do proper damage 2) either buff damage so it feels like a great exotic or leave it at a basic legendary damage but give it the life exotic perk so instead of having it be a super strong exotic its more of a basic customizable legendary.

The whole point of the new Khvostov is that it's supposed to be a jack off all trades, an auto, pulse, and scout rifle all in one weapon. It works well as an auto, but sub-par as a pulse or scout rifle. Implementing these changes would only make sense.
-
Yes please. I love the kvostov but this would make it even more unique and exotic.
-
I think either this or you hold square/x and it brings up a menu like rainbow six and then you change it. That way you can quickly adapt

Edited by A Wild Zebra: 9/26/2016 12:22:52 AMI absolutely love the idea! It would be awesome if the other modes were worth using. I used it for a few patrols worth of play-time, but it just didn't give me that "good ol' days" feeling I thought it would. After waiting almost two years, (for an exotic version, not for these perks to be on a gun) I was fairly disappointed in how the weapon performed in it's alternate fire modes.

I got a God Tier Colovances Duty. Crowd control, outlaw and explosive rounds. Also Ghorn is permanently in my loadout.

I use it as a semi......
