What the Open World Needs

I believe making the open world feel more "Open" it needs a few things. Add whatever you believe it needs too. 1. Wildlife: I saw this moments ago and it got me thinking that it would make the world feel more alive. 2. Camps and/or caravans: Adding machines like the ones from the tower to distribute missions and possibly even make minor trades of some sort possible. 3. Weather: Changing weather would make the world seem more real and offer a new feel to the combat in roam making it feel more realistic in a way. And preferably regionally appropriate weather. Edit: the wildlife would not be what we have today but twisted creatures from the hive that look like animals roaming the planets and moons that they inhabit. And the camps or caravans could have guardians protecting the machines. Apparently people take these posts as demands for extreme content changes so I'll say this. These are only my ideas for what could be added in the future at some point not for what needs to be done by release. Please no comments stating that anyone has a bad idea, if you're not being positive you're being a hinderance.

  • There is so much stuff they need to add it kinda upsets me that they didn't think of it it's not really as open, and alive as they make it seem they really need to add yours and everyone else's ideas otherwise it'll get boring very fast

    • I'd like to see vendors while out exploring. I know outside the wall is dangerous, but the vendors should be hidden away or in hard to reach areas. That way you don't have to always go back to the tower.

        Sorry dude this community is filled with a bunch of idiots who do not like feedback about the game in the feedback section. I said there should be a way to tell whose ship was whose in the loading screen but I got a lot of hate for that. People say I am too lazy to ask everyone in the lobby whose ship is whose when there is no lobby chat. This is why you do not what to get a lot of sales. The communities IQ will drop significantly and prevent improvement. But yes the open world exploration is a bit empty.

        Agreed, the open world need's work. Also be nice if they would remove all the invisible barriers. Hopefully these were just symptoms of the beta and not final product results.

          I whole-heartedly agree with everything you have suggested. Yes, we should have ambient life of some sort. Yes, we should have dynamic weather. Yes, we should have NPC outposts. These are all great ideas! I was just about to suggest of few of them myself, in fact. To me, the open world exploration lost its charm after the first hour or so. It's just so bland! Half a million generic missions that never change or have you do anything unique, and that have you running back and forth through Skywatch over and over again. Weather, outposts, and more life in general, whether it be enemies or friends, would make it so much better. Also, a little variety in the missions, please. I get tired of killing enemies and scanning the same places I've already been over and over again. Dynamic environments would be cool as well. Say there's a rickety old building that you can find and explore, but the next time you come back, it's been destroyed, and you can explore the ruins of the building you once knew. It's the same building, but it's different, adding the excitement of exploring something new and unfamiliar. I also love the idea of small NPC camps. It would be a small island of peace in the middle of hostile world where you could feel safe. Dynamic events could affect these as well. Say the Fallen destroy an outpost and kidnap your favorite NPCs. You could go on an epic quest to rescue them from the Fallen's evil clutches before it's too late! If we could explore more of Earth besides Old Russia, it might not be so bad. I just get sick of staring at the same landscape for hours. We need forests, deserts, tundras, desolate cities, and so forth. I'm just saying, the free-roam needs a lot of variety and new content to keep me coming back. Otherwise, it gets old really fast.

I agree with your ideas, I can't see anything bad about them, but this is not the way to end your post. Anything you say or do is open to critique just as it is to positive reception in all walks of life, not just here. I just wanted to point that out. ^^

            • I was thinking about some epic event where no matter where you are, you get a message from your ghost something like this: "Guardian, I've received an urgent distress signal from the Speaker. Aparently a ship full of refugees has crashed and is in danger of being overrun. They desperately need your help." If you are at the tower, these six man drop ships arrive for you and your buddy to jump on. You might end up with some random dudes, but lets say 20 people are in the tower...18 respond, three six man drop ships arrive...everyone gets to go and each drop ship spawns a similar but seperate rescue mission...one group could end up on the moon, the other on Mars, etc...you dont have to go, but if you do, you have a grater chance at good loot. The missions would be hoard missions with wave of increasingly difficult enemies with a good, hard boss fight to end it...once the baddies are clwared out, a transpot ship can come in and ferry survivors.

              • I agree with all but 1 the wildlife because the darkness would probably just kill them quickly and they would probably go extinct real fast

              • Great points!! Camps got me thinking little Aliens and female Aliens...moral dilema...Kill or capture? Environmental events..random rockfalls..quicksand...ball lightning...Animal attacks..geysers..etc Distant herds of beasts....screams in the distance...traces of kill sites...enigmatic watchers in shadows on hill tops etc...I don't believe a lot of these ideas would demand huge resource changes, a lot don't even have to be interact-able...it's all about feeding the imagination. Destiny is a quality game but overly sterile even though it's set in a post apocalyptic scenario. Life is tough it always finds a way to get a foothold.. Destiny is so empty it almost seems it's not worth the battle.

                With wild life it would be cool to kill some rare spawning creatures to get shaders for your character or special consumables like food for better aim or bigger special, hold more ammo, move faster.

              • I agree. A lot of good replies here too. It makes me think ppl (including myself) are wanting an open world like how swtor (Star Wars: The Old Republic) was set up. Swtor had wildlife and camps (Allies and enemy) all over the place. Even Dragons Dogma had wildlife; which you could obtain loot from, as well as a few random camps to obtain loot.

              • Wholeheartedly agree with the OP and so many other posts on here. Sadly tho it seems that we may be in the minority. I see much more on the forums for customization options, pvp, etc. As a result we are likely out of luck. It's much easier to do simple add-ons than to actually create an immersive fully realized open world on multiple planets. Bungie will likely hear our thoughts on it bland PvE as a murmur amongst the yells for other trivial matters.

              • What about Fallen Camps and Outposts? We can invade them and search for loot inside. From what I've seen in the beta, enemies just stand around and then respawn when you kill them. Repeat. What about "dynamic idle" lol? Hard for me to explain that one and give suggestions to change it, but as of now it seems they are waiting to die.

              • Lol first Destiny would need an open world. It's wide paths but paths all the same. This isn't an open world. To my knowledge they never said it was. They may have said things to make you believe it might be, and that's why we mostly think game developers are a bunch of lying bastards. They aren't lying bastards, they are misleading bastards lol.

                  My only big disappointment was that there was scripted spawning in explore. An example of this would be killing a servitor near the strike area, and after a little while the same servitor and dregs would spawn in the exact same spot. Because of this areas became easy, boring, predictable and took away from the feel of the game. If they are able to fix this in the full version of the game then I would be very happy.

                    • Camps and caravans would be stupid, the weather was in day/night cycle, but would be cooler if upgraded to weather, and Next-Gen Fish A.I.

                    • Want to add something to my previous comments. The open world needs swimming or at the very least a Destiny equivalent. Doesn't have to be on release date. P.S. I think I may just be jealous that COD A.W. lets you swim. P.P.S. Guardians must've sacrificed the ability to swim for all the other nifty traveler powers.
