I would like to be able to change character appearance at the [b]"Character Selection"[/b] screen. You move the pointer to one of you characters and hold [b]"Triangle/Y"[/b], this will allow you to change the appearance of your character. Gender and Race cannot be changed as they directly affect your Grimiore Score.
Another idea would be to unlock features for your character. After completing certain tasks you would be able to add new features to the customizing settings. This way you can show other players in the tower just how legendary you are!

[b]Sunglasses:[/b] Unlocked after beating the campaign.
[b]Eye Patch: [/b]Unlocked after playing 100 Crucible Matches
[b]Platinum Skin:[/b] Unlocked after earning the "Platinum" Trophy.
[b]Emerald Skin:[/b] Unlocked after earning every Achievement.
[b]Halo [i](wink)[/i]:[/b] Unlocked after achieving max light level.

Considering your player race, gender and appearance have zero bearing on your gameplay, I see no reason why not. At least then you don't have to re-roll a character if you decide you want to play as a different race/gender or you just got tired of looking at them.

Would the light level thing be a one time thing or would you have to change it to something else till you get max light again?

Oh yeh, add this. Don't see how hard it could be. Just add an option (press button) then take you back to the original screen where you make your guardian. Edit your person how you want and finish. Save the new character looks data and BAM. It's done.
