After spending a while making a custom controller button layout, I landed on having [Crouch] be tied to a [Double Press] of [Left Stick]. This ended up working well for me in general gameplay, but I found that for some reason I cannot slide under low-hanging obstacles. I can always crouch while standing still and then walk under whatever is giving me trouble, but a running slide will not let me pass through.
