3 RepliesEdited by Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 7/25/2015 11:36:59 PMUnpopular opinion time, lol. I say ME1 and ME3 tie because they about the Reapers. ME2 is just filler with an out of nowhere "new enemy" who's motives ultimately remained unknown by the end of the trilogy. Great characters and character stories but it's just Side Mission: The Game. The Reaper invasion would have been no different if Shepard didn't needlessly go on a suicide mission through a relay no one has ever returned from because he/she decided to take it personally. It felt like being forced into something that should have been a renegade decision. While the movement and controls were much better the rest of it was toned down SO much and it was basically just a 3rd person shooter with minor abilities and upgrades.

1 ReplyFor me I would say Mass Effect 1, I still play it from time to time after I run through KoTOR. Overall I would say the thing that annoyed me the most was just the elevator wait times, though certain characters have some funny dialog depending on the party.

Edited by Smarkdow: 7/25/2015 8:28:37 AMMass Effect 1, by far. It has the best, most cohesive story of any of the games. Saren is an excellent antagonist. The Reapers weren't ruined. There's actual role-playing (funny seeing that in an RPG). Exploring planets is fun, though the Mako is annoying. And the 80s sci-fi soundtrack by Jack Wall ss -blam!-ing awesome. Mass Effect 2 is good, but its story is basically filler. There's nothing that happens that really affects anything or moves the overall plot forward; the Arrival DLC does more in that regard than the main story. The characters are cool, but they're not as "three dimensional" as in Mass Effect 1; they all tend to have one aspect of their personality that's played up and they all have daddy issues. The dialogue system is improved with more varied options (Mass Effect 1 tended to have options that were the same) and interrupts. The removal of RPG elements and exploration is unfortunate, and highlights a shitty design philosophy from Bioware: If something isn't perfect, scrap it instead of finding says to improve it. Mass Effect 3 isn't a Mass Effect game as far as I'm concerned. It's most certainly not an RPG; it's a shitty Gears of War clone that revels in taking control away from the player. Liked picking dialogue in the old games? Too bad, now the dialogue wheel is a fork with options that only have a minor difference in tone (and no neutral option, like really?). Like creating and roleplaying as your own Commander Shepard? Too bad, now Shepard is our (Bioware's) character who speaks on his own with no input from the player whatsoever and dreams about little boys. Not only does it make player input pointless, it makes the previous games pointless. And don't even get me started on those endings, which were only marginally improved (and in some areas, made worse) with the Extended Cut, the equivalent of putting spinkles on a turd. The only good thing about Mass Effect 3 was Tuchanka and the resolution of Mordin's character arc.

Two for sure. Your choices matter, the story was awesome, and the ending actually makes you feel accomplished.

ME2 is what ME3 should have been. It was the best of the lot for me. Will be interested to see how Andromeda does, but for the love of God bioware, DON'T repeat your mistake with the ending in ME3!!!

1 ReplyI love the whole series, as a true rpg me1, for story me2, for gameplay me3
-
1 ReplyStory I say ME2 Combat ME3 Experience got to go with ME1
-
3 RepliesMan I'm torn between 1 and 2. I liked 1 coz it was heavy on RPG elements and the story progression was amazing. I like 2's heavy action as well and polished gameplay. I think I'll go with 1.

7 RepliesHate me if you want, but Mass Effect 3. The gameplay was at its peak, the story wrapped up most of the endings in satisfying ways, and the story was centered where the series should've been from the start: on Shepard vs the Reapers. You can complain about the final ending until you're blue in the face; it really wasn't that terrible with the extended cut. You can complain about how certain points seemed to jerk in another direction (how post Thessia everything is super tense and overly dramatic, or suddenly the genophage is a very black-white moral argument). But it was the best overall.

Mass effect 1 for story. Mass effect 3 for everything else. I had over 1000 hours in the multiplayer.

1 ReplyI played Mass Effect 1 last (bite me) and I ended up liking it the most. Saren was such a cool villain, the RPG elements was great, and the story overall was pretty damn good and had a sense of mystery towards the Reapers and everything else. The only complaint I have about the game is the Mako.

1 ReplyEdited by Harbinger: 7/25/2015 4:39:14 AMMy all time favorite franchise, and ME2 is my all time favorite game. ME1 is damn near as good in it's own way. ME3 is good, no more, no less.
-
3 RepliesMass effect 3 since that's were I started & got it platinumed.
-
1 ReplyMe1 cause it was the most RPG of them all.
-
3 RepliesI still like the ME1 most due to the weapon modifications. Being able to swap in a bunch of different ammo types was awesome. I also enjoyed the Mako even though it did become tedious, however, I missed not being able to explore planets in ME3.

3 RepliesCo-op

1 ReplyMass effect 2. Because of miranda
-
1 ReplyThe first one. It felt more open. People bash the mako but the feeling of exploring made it better. I liked the other ones plenty too, but it felt more closed.

12 RepliesEdited by Vgnut: 7/24/2015 9:25:51 PMAfter going back and having played all three I'd say ME2 was the worst. It was such a waste of potential. I also subscribe to the argument that ME3 is the worst due to the final level and ending in addition to reprehensible Day 1 DLC. In some respects Mass Effect is the most flawed and also the best. If Bioware fully realized the first ME rather than taking things in a sharp alternate direction things would be much better. I notice lots of people over sensationalizing the quality of Mass Effect in general. When you really stop and think about it these aren't ground breaking games in the slightest.

1 ReplyMass Effect 3 I was satisfided with the ending so people just want a silly cringe happy ending.

IMHO... it's ME2.
