Crota Challenge Pointers
1) After killing the knights and acolytes during the opening sequence, kill one boomer from each tower. Do NOT kill both as it will make a wizard spawn on the platform on that side. This minimizes the effect the boomers will have, especially while the sword runner is trying to do damage.
2) Throw grenades at the sword bearer. Solar grenades are amazing for this. This helps save heavy/special if you didn't get any drops. Remember to follow him and call it from the middle room while you're waiting for Crota to rotate back around.
3) Remember the bubble. A BoL bubble on the circle platform near the exits of the crystal room gives an overshield while chasing the sword bearer and also distracts the remaining boomers.
4) The Oversoul will pop up every time Crota gets up. HOWEVER, you only [i]need[/i] to deal with one Oversoul per cycle. Down Crota. When the Oversoul pops up, this is when you can fire rockets/Sleeper to down him again. As long as you switch weapons and down the Oversoul, you're clear. This method stops you from dealing with two Oversouls each cycle.
5) On the subject of the Oversoul. We had one guy use Sleeper to down the Oversoul quicker. While the rest of us used Gjally to down Crota the second time (you only need 4 Gjallys from 400 light players), the Sleeper dude was firing away at Oversoul. We still needed to help with special ammo, but it goes down pretty quick this way and again, ensures you only have to deal with one Oversoul per cycle.
6) Sword runners don't have to leave the platform. Just running to the far side should give you enough time and space for the rest of the team to down Crota the second time, assuming you're following the rest of this strat. One Oversoul is best. Trust me.
7) Ogres still exist. After the second cycle (if you need more than 2), go down below the boomer towers and wait for ogres. It's the best place, really.
8) 13 right triggers will enrage. 16 to kill. Keep count. If enrage happens at the wrong time, game over.
Edit: More Cowbell says a Celestial Nighthawk goldie will one shot the Oversoul. Save that ammo!
Edit 2: My bad. If you're using only the right trigger attack, he enrages in 12 slams for 400 light folks. Also, WoL buffs the sword. Do with that information what you will. I've seen a lot of people pop it on the rock beside Crota's platform (the one most people use to get up there).

Doing a combo I've used in Y1, we have gotten about 60% of crota's health away within one sword run. Here's the combo: Light, light, Heavy, heavy, (super on second down) It is possible to get an additional heavy in if you skip the recovery animation with the super. If both swordbearers use this combo, you can easily kill crota in two swords.

Titan bubble and tether both affect crota damage, so "r1,r2,r2,r2 run r1,r2,r2,r2, super" kills him in one sword.

2 RepliesThis is the strat my group uses. We don't sword Crota at his spawn. We do everything on the platform he runs to by the crystal room. Dont have to shoot the knights. Nighthawk for oversoul. 3 sword phases he was down on 3 runs. Super easy and the sword bearer has plenty of time to damage him and get the super sword swing on him sometimes 2 times. 6 Replieswe used golden guns on the oversoul (still had to shoot a little bit), made it go down quick, which we dealt with after we downed Crota for the second time. Ran titan bubbles (at least two) just create orbs for the gunslingers placed at the top of the stairs going out the left door to start. I've heard using your one shot solar hunter exotic helm( forgot the name) is more effective but have not tried. fyi ran it twice, got all four exotic "adept" raid primaries, just need Nechro - waiting on the essence to drop, also crux of crota doesn't work, for I tried (kept one, never know : )

Edited by SeaWolv: 3/31/2017 3:26:50 PMIf you have one Gunslinger Hunter they can take out the Oversoul after Crota's 2nd kneel down all by themselves. Make sure they have Deadeye and Over the Horizon selected in their build with Celestial Nighthawk and they can solo that bitch.

Best way to to damage and live is to pop a bubble right next to the light on the right side. Have a single, or two, person sitting in it while the runner finds the sword dude. Bubble person and runner down sword dude (bearer or whatever. Just dude to me), then gets on rock while everyone is against the back wall. Count from 3-1, and on 1, runner starts to jump up, and the others shoot crota with ghorn. After he gets up, ignore oversoul, and shoot again after the invincibility wears off. Then celestial nighthawk the oversoul. Rinse, repeat, and if needed, you could use weapons if you have enough titans. Easiest thing for my 2 teams

The sword runners other than myself were just trash and these were players wearing full trials gear asking me if I have raze-lighter and gjallarhorn. I should've quit that team when they asked me that. Here's to another long struggle of LFG scrubs! PROTIP: Sword runners, don't tell your team to down Crota when you're not on the platform [i]with[/i] Crota. I've seen too many sword runners only get it one or two hits per down for this reason.

2 RepliesI believe in year one there was a strategy that called for a Defender Titan with the Helm of Saint-14 to drop bubble directly on the boomer knights. I'm thinking about trying this sometime this week to see how reliable it is, but just thought I'd throw that out there

I just did this and shocked the hell out of the team I was helping lol. I popped a bubble right before I was ready to dps crota and....I cant be the only titan who knew this. 1 Reply1: It's easier to just immediately kill the tower knights on the right tower, then kill the wizard that spawns while your sword guy takes out the sword bearer. They won't respawn until after your sword runner finishes, and the sword despawns., and everyone can get back inside the crystal room on the same side safely before the boomers respawn.

Edited by lordofcinder28: 3/31/2017 1:44:44 AMMake sure someone with a High rate auto( Nercocasm works great) shoots corta when he is down it will let a good sword bearer get 4 hit (5 if you have super) doing so will give you a total of 9 hits (if you double down) bring him to only 7 hits needed (My team runs 3 Nighthawks and 2 perfectly time shoots on each down let's you get a total of 10 hit if someone can tell me how to link Xbox recordings I can show you guys)

Weapons of Light buffs the sword. We had a guy popping a weapons on top of the rocks immediately after running out of the room. If you double down Crota with 3 slams in each, I'm pretty sure 2 sword bearers can kill him using the weapons bubble.

2 RepliesEdited by WulfPak666: 3/30/2017 6:42:50 PMYa if you don't have a celestial GG, you can break Oversoul in 4 sleeper shots. Bring fast reload gauntlets and boots for heavy and that baby will have 12 shots. :) You'll be covered for just about all Oversoul spawns if you do 3 sword runs.

If your having trouble dying to boomers, hug the wall and head close to blocked off center ledge, Knights won't reach you, jumping gives you good view of the swordbearer, and enough space to down Crota with stepping in front of someone's rocket. Also Datto made a video that showed that Weapon of light bubbles effect sword damage, essentially making the fight shorter.

3 RepliesIf your team wants to try something different you can use a weapons of light bubble where sword bearer typically hangs out between cycles. On the first sword if you get 7-8 hits plus a super sword hit in two kneels you'll have him under 25% no problem. Next sword doing the same thing you're guaranteed to kill him in 4 hits or less. Two of my friends are excellent sword bearers so that helps on this.

Yup defo have a hunter with Celestial to take out the Oversoul. Saves ammo and people can be heading back inside without worrying.
